In exciting news for Oregon Democrats, Steve Novick is just six points behind of Gordon Smith in a new poll (click here) - within its margin of error. This impressive showing provides another indication of how Steve's homegrown, grassroots campaign is catching fire and connecting with voters across Oregon.
The poll by SurveyUSA also found that Jeff Merkley is just nine points behind Smith, underscoring again just how vulnerable the incumbent Republican is to a spirited Democratic challenge next year.
The survey also found that Novick retains higher approval ratings among Democrats, independents, liberals and moderates than Merkley does and that Novick performs slightly better among voters most concerned about the war in Iraq.
The survey, commissioned by the Washington D.C. publication Roll Call, interviewed 641 registered voters in Oregon with a margin of error of ± 4 percent.(click here to read results)
