6. Road Trip to SC for Obama
1) South Carolina Canvassing Carpool: November 30- December 2
DC for Obama's official border state is South Carolina. The campaign wants our efforts aimed there, and it's a lot warmer in January there than in Iowa. The majority of our phone banking, fundraising and canvassing efforts will be aimed at South Carolina.
Several dedicated volunteers have organized a trip to South Carolina for the weekend of November 30-December 2. Right now, we have two cars and a handful of folks slated for each car, but this is the call for more! Our big need is drivers and autos; there has been talk of splitting a van, which is relatively affordable to rent for the weekend. We plan on leaving DC Friday evening, though with more cars some may be able to depart earlier. We'll arrive in South Carolina late Friday, sleep somewhere, possibly a floor, provided by the campaign, wake up early Saturday and work. Mostly, we'll do door to door canvassing with some phone banking, depending on our final headcount We'll leave Sunday afternoon and be back in time for bed Sunday night, 12/2. If you'd like to jump on board -- especially if you have wheels to volunteer -- please contact me at ianindc@gmail.com.

As the holiday season approaches, we as Democrats should come together to celebrate our principles, foster unity and make contributions to our party and youths in our city. To that end, the DC Democratic State Committee (DCDSC) will host a debate watch and holiday party on Monday, December 10, 2007. It will be at the 18th Amendment restaurant and bar, from 6 p.m to midnight. The restaurant is at 613 Pennsylvania Avenue, one block from the Eastern Market Metro station. Admission will be a minimum contribution of $10 and a book for a youth up to the age of 12. The funds raised that evening will be earmarked for the DC delegate caucus and the DC delegation expenses at the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado. A third of the financial proceeds at the door will be allotted to the ward organizations based on the attendance from their respective wards. Also, the last DNC sanctioned debate of the presidential candidates will be televised that evening from California.

14. Volunteer for Obama, CHEAP AIRFARES TO NH Dec. 14 - 16
The bottom line is that the weekend of Dec. 14 is the time to make a difference for Barack Obama and the price is right. Airfares to New Hampshire the weekend of December 14 (BWI-MHT) are really low but act quickly!
New Hampshire may make or break the Obama campaign. It is the place to make a difference for Barack Obama and experience the work & rituals of American politics when it matters and make quality contacts with the swing voters. Last weekend, 14 commited Obama supporters made the long drive to New Hampshire where we knocked on doors of over 900 Democratic & independent voters, met Sen. Obama's sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, met a real rising star in Dem. politics, Rep, Patrick Murphy, and helped out with all sorts of work at the bustling Obama State Headquarters. As for the late evenings, we mostly just slept but whatever happens in Manchester, stays in Manchester. We had fun & we made a difference. We were unanimously impressed with the Obama field organization. They used us well.
Our next push is for the weekend of December 14. It's great if people want to make the 9-10 hour drive. This time flying is an option. Southwest Airlines is offering very low fares for travel between BWI Airport and MHT Manchester, NH airport, the weekend of December 14. The flight option is just about $50 more than you would spend splitting gas expenses among 3 or 4 people. Currently, tickets are available on Southwest's entire, direct flight schedule on both Dec. 14 & 16 at $59 each way. Southwest has 7 flights each day. Of course, airline fares can vary hourly, the website is www.iflyswa.com Rental car rates also look very reasonable. Other flights are available from Dulles on Southwest and National on US Airways, but when I just checked Tuesday morning, the real bargain fares were from BWI Airport.
Please give it serious consideration. This is the time! New Hampshire is the Place. The New Hampshire primary will be Jan. 8. So many people tell me they want to work in New Hampshire, but they think they can just "get around to it sometime." Sometime is running out. If you can't come to NH that weekend, please talk this up and forward it to friends who support real change and Barack Obama and are actually willing to do something about it. Make your own reservation. The campaign can arrange a place to sleep -- probably the floor of a staffers shared home. Some of us will stay at the Sheraton Four Points or the Econo Lodge, both in Manchester. Questions? call Howard Park at 202-544-6262 or hpark4@aol.com
ALSO, the Obama Campaign needs you in New Hampshire anytime, if you have any time in your schedule between now & the primary, contact Brian Sullivan bsullivan@barackobama com.

19. Phone Bank SC for Obama
Can't travel? make a commitment to call about 50 people in South Carolina per week via the campaign's "virtual phone bank." This is ideal for busy supporters who can't commit to specific group phone banks but want to help out in their free time. You can call as few or as many people as time allows, and the 50 people per week number only amounts to 10 calls per day.
If you're interested, please contact Paige at paige.shevlin@googlemail.com; she'll contact the South Carolina coordinator and get you a personalized user name and a password for South Carolina's electronic potential supporter network.
20. Students Mobilize for Donna Edwards
Students at the University of Maryland, College Park are organizing along with activists, families and other community members from all over Prince George's and Montgomery County to support Donna Edwards in her bid to beat DINO Al Wynn (MD-4). Edwards is running a strong campaign to unseat Wynn, who consistently sides with Republicans on key votes such as authorizing the war in Iraq, the 2005 bankruptcy bill, Dick Cheney's energy bill, repealing the estate tax, and other pieces of radically conservative legislation. Wynn is backed by the same Prince George's County political machine that has produced an array of corrupt and out-of-touch politicians in local and state government. He is also helped by hundreds of thousands in oil, nuclear energy, Walmart and telecommunications PAC money.
Edwards is the executive director of the Arca Foundation, and has experience working in various community organizations as well as for Public Citizen. She is being supported by Progressive Maryland, and is endorsed by Emily's List, League of Conservative Voters, Democracy for America, NOW, and by the blogs MyDD, Atrios, and others.
The 4th, which is one of the most Democratically partisan districts in the country, borders the District of Columbia and stretches along the beltway. For more information, read this post at Free State Politics (Maryland's progressive blogging hub) or join the Facebook group here. Wynn will represent Maryland forever if he doesn't go now-- which is a danger to all progressive causes given his right wing record.
21. Wesley Clark for Vice President
Draft efforts have worked before -- just ask Sen. Jim Webb! No matter who our choice is for President, the choice for Vice President is clear to many: check out: http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/clark vp2008/
22. Missouri's Shame Leads to A Fun Online Game!
Missourian's like me know that Gov. Matt "Baby" Blunt is a national embarrassment. His demeanor is sort of a fraternity era young G.W. Bush, but his scandals are grown up. The next Democratic Governor from Missouri, Attorney General Jay Nixon, have created a fun online game to highlight Blunt's latest scandal involving destroyed documents & e-mails, check out http://bluntdocumentdestroyer.com and make sure to forward this FUN site to your friends in the Show-Me State -- Howard Park
23. Travel to Iowa, Center of the Political Universe, for Obama
Young Lawyers for Obama is currently serving as a liaison for DC trips to Iowa, and this is another great one. The group will be flying out to Omaha, Nebraska and crossing over into Council Bluffs, Iowa, a just across the Missouri River from Omaha. This region doesn't get as many volunteers as the major cities, so your efforts here will count for a lot. Remember that Iowa is the first caucus AND IT WILL BE HELD IN JUST OVER 6 WEEKS! Volunteers will canvass, phone bank, or help with campaign events as the need arises. The group is attempting to get from Reagan/National to Omaha en mass, so please contact David Burd of YLFO for flight information or other questions at davidsburd@gmail.com.

We are not able to publicize events on short notice.
