Tom Tancredo: Scaring The Crap Out Of Iowans One Ad At A Time

I know I've been a bit pre-occupied with the Republicans today but there's no way I could let this go without a mention. It's Tom Tancredo's new ad, which is set to run in Iowa (h/t TPM.)

I wouldn't have picked him as the fearmongeriest of the Republicans but with this ad he wins hands down as he makes the overt claim that illegal immigration = terrorism and in the process throws any pretense at subtlety or subtext out the window. It begins with

My name is Tom Tancredo and I approved this message because someone needs to say it.

...and ends with...

Tancredo...before it's too late.

And as for the in between, well, watch for yourself.

Yep, "elect me...or else!" is pretty much all the Republicans have to run on, Tancredo's just the first to say it. What's so jarring is the honesty with which he says it.

This ad is repulsive.

big applause line from his stump speech (none / 0)

is supposedly when he says that he is tired of hearing, "Press 1 for English, press 2 for Spanish."

He just doesn't like brown people.

Also, he wants to say the most shocking openly racist things so that the eventual GOP nominee looks like a moderate by comparison.

"before it's too late" (none / 0)

was the tagline used in Bernard Epton's campaign to try to keep Harold Washington from being the first Black mayor of Chicago.

I am checking for the first story of a cop blowing some neo-punk in his hoodie away 'cause he thought the kid was a 'Tehhrist'.

Ol' Tom?

I've shit him.

I can't wait to catch this great one on TV...he should have stayed with the House and worked on this crazy fence with Rep. King. This candidacy was going nowhere, I am doubt the ad will even appeal to the furthest poles of the Iowa GOP.

So at least there's one Republican out there not trying to parrot Ronald Reagan...

A different kind of "daisy" campaign ad (none / 0)

It's more like a hybrid between the infamous 1964 daisy ad and scare tactics from the McCarthy red scare era.

I suppose there have always been fringe elements running for President. The surprise here is that enough Republicans support this one that he gets invited to debates, et al.

Video flagged by YouTube community (none / 0)

Funny thing is, this video has been flagged by the YouTube community as inappropriate and you now have to log in to prove you're older than 18 to view the video on YouTube itself. Apparently that's not the case for the embedded version here. Since most people watching YouTube videos don't have YouTube accounts this should limit viewership of this disgusting vile "ad" significantly.

Re: Video flagged by YouTube community (none / 0)

Desperate actions from a desperate desparado of Colorado and his desparado racist white flight constitutents from Parker, Castle Rock, Evergreen, Conifer, Pine and of course Littleton where there are plenty of illegals at least in construction crews. Saw them working outside the house of the most anti-immigrant and racist person in Bergen Park who is active in not just anti-illegal but anti-immigrant activities. And she was standing there and smiling and talking to neighbors. Desparado Tancredo is more desparate than terrorists.
