Edwards Questions If Clinton Will Actually "Turn Up The Heat"

Well, you may have heard the Senator Clinton's new slogan is "Turn up the Heat."

Well, John Edwards questioned today whether she really can "turn up the heat."

"The war in Iraq isn't even history yet, but the Bush Administration is repeating the march to war with Iran - and they're getting help from a person who should know a lot better -Senator Clinton.

"On Saturday at the Iowa Jefferson Jackson dinner, Senator Clinton unveiled her new campaign slogan to 'turn up the heat' on the Republicans.

"Well, somebody will have to tell me how you 'turn up the heat' by voting with Bush, Cheney and the neocons on their path to war with Iran. Because I don't believe that's turning up the heat - I think that's giving them exactly what they want.

"Senator Clinton had her chance to stand up and she chose not to use it. Our nation needs leaders who have the strength and backbone to fight the president on his march to war with Iran - not quicken the pace."

http://johnedwards.com/news/headlines/20 071112-turn-up-the-heat/

This is turning up the heat!

"We all talk a great deal about hope and our responsibility to restore hope," he said. "Hope Is crucial. but you have to fight to restore that hope."

Edwards recalled his famous case on behalf of a young girl who was hurt by a swimming pool drain. Edwards said he'd given her family hope, and then "I gave that company Hell."

"We need to give America hope but we need to give these people who are driving you out of business Hell," he said.

Hillary Clinton's campaign was acting like President Bush's when it recently planted a softball question from an Iowa audience member, rival Democratic candidate John Edwards said Sunday.

"People expect you to stand in front of them and answer their hard questions - and they expect it to be an honest process," he told reporters in Des Moines. "What George Bush does is plant questions and exclude people from events, and I don't think that's what Democrats want to see in Iowa."

http://blogs.usatoday.com/onpolitics/200 7/11/clinton.html

We need to give America hope. But we need to give these people who are driving you out of business hell," Edwards said as he railed against corporate agriculture and the influence of special interests in Washington. He said voters should not "replace a crowd of corporate Republicans in Washington with a crowd of Washington Democrats."

You don't turn up the heat by voting with Bush, Senator Clinton.

The recent debate. John Edwards turns up the heat on Senator Doubletalk:

Kyl-Lieberman (2.00 / 9)

Re: Kyl-Lieberman (2.00 / 8)

Exactly. Voting with Bush and the neocons certainly isn't standing up to them.

When does she plan on turning up the heat? At the end of her possible second term?

They seem incapable of debate.

Re: I am not surpised (2.00 / 1)

The only one who is "spewing" is you, Tom.   Cut the spewing out and discuss things like a grown-up.  This constant "typical for all Hillary supporters" stuff makes you extremely weak.  Are you freaking out or burning out, or something?    ZERO-RATING for the comment dpandrews left was totally ridiculous.  You are violating the ratings system constantly, which, in the strict sense of the rules here make your behavior trollish.  I don't think of you as a troll, really, but if you can't cut out your zero-rating problem, that may change, and soon.   Geez, man.

Grow a thicker skin, or don't dish out worse than what you are constantly complaining about.  You can't have it both ways.

I have seen many Edwards supporters make a dump of this place, and they always have your blessing.  But, here is the problem.  You are bashing me because I happen to be a Clinton supporter (how ridiculous is that?) while you yourself engage in some of the worst rule breaks on this board.  Keep it above board.  This rabid stuff is for the birds.  It makes it seem like you don't really believe in your candidate, and the only salvation you see is trying to tear down the other candidate.  That that usually never works out in Democratic nomination battles has not entered your mind and makes you partially uneasy?  I guess not.

perfectt word choice...

after 10 years of fighting the big media and how they hurt only Dems - to watch both Obama and Edwards join with Russet aand Bri-Bri during that debate....did make me angry and quite bitter at their false act...selfishness...and pure stupidity.

And Im bitter about them accusing both Hillary and Hillaary of being liars and corrupt....yeah...an acrimonious response is a fitting reply to tthat kind of low infamy.

I never once attacked either of these guys ever anywhere before that - i felt everybody has the right to run...but now that its clear that they and SOME of their supporters are willing to risk our long term chances for their short term gain....

gloves are off.

Very funny.  It was a plan for the 80's.  Would you have gone back to Reagan's America if you didn't have to?  So now I'm stuck here.  Then after the invasion of Iraq it all made sense again.  Except I have to listen to the endless, patient approbation of English speaking people everywhere on the subject.  I think some of these tourists learned English just to upbraid some poor, unsuspecting Yank on the evils of the Bush administration, and they don't know the half of it.  Sigh.  If Obama wins I can come home at last.  See, I have a lot invested in this.  And you totally underestimate Obama on foreign policy, my friend.

And the last Eva Gardner pretty well cleaned me out when she breezed through, but it was heaps of fun while it lasted.

Re: Pushing right wing (2.00 / 11)

Anyone who thinks it's okay to attack trial lawyers for being trial lawyers ought to read George Lakoff's book "Don't Think of an Elephant." He has a very interesting point in there about how the right wing attacks trial lawyers, not just to seed distrust of the justice system and make voters willing to give up their own rights to sue corporations that injure them, but also to defund the Democratic Party, since trial lawyers are one of the only groups of individuals with a lot of money that regularly supports Democrats.

yes, he made big dough, butt he did more than that....

remember the trial of the LA Times bombing?

wiki:

The national labor movement was outraged by the way the McNamaras had been treated, and labor leaders were convinced the brothers were innocent. Burns had clearly engaged in kidnapping, misrepresentation of his status as a law enforcement officer, unlawful imprisonment, and possibly torture in his handling of McManigal and J.B. McNamara. He had unlawfully extradited J.B. McNamara, and may have committed kidnapping by transporting him across state lines. The local circuit judge had unlawfully denied J.J. McNamara access to legal representation and had no authority to approve his extradition. Both McNamaras had been arrested on the basis of a confession wrung from a third man who himself had been kidnapped and perhaps coerced into confessing. The case seemed too much like the kidnapping and trial of Bill Haywood and others in 1906.[3]

Labor leaders were also convinced of the McNamara's innocence by other factors as well. The open shop movement and virulent hostility shown by Otis convinced many that the whole event was a frame-up (with some, including Eugene V. Debs, suggesting that Otis himself may have planted the bomb). Burns repeatedly implied that Gompers and other labor leaders were involved in the national bombing campaign, and AFL officials feared a national campaign of arrests designed to destroy the nascent labor movement might be in the works. Meanwhile, George Alexander, mayor of Los Angeles, was locked in a very close re-election battle against Job Harriman, a Socialist Party of America candidate. The bombing, some felt, might simply be a plot to keep Harriman out of City Hall.[3]

Iron Workers president Frank Ryan asked Clarence Darrow to defend the McNamaras. But Darrow was in ill health. Ryan turned to Harriman, who agreed to be the brothers' defense attorney. Gompers, however, visited Darrow in Chicago and convinced him that the case required his expertise. Reluctantly, Darrow consented to be lead defense attorney

In fact, they aren't all fucking humanitarians just looking to help the little guy fight the big bad corporations.  Lots of them screw perfectly good doctors too.  Let's not pretend it's all a matter of good and evil.

What would you do if your child got disembowed from a faulty pool drain? Imagine if the faulty pool drain left your child with eating from a feeding tube for the rest of its life. The company knew about the faulty pool drain for ten years and knew that several children were seriously injured. Futhermore, all it took was a screw that cost one dollar to fix the faulty pool drain but the company refused to fix it. Are you serioulsy telling me that it is wrong for the parents of the injured children to sue? Are you serioulsy telling me that you would support the company over the trial attorney? And wasn't the company being greedy for trying to save a dollar for a screw despite knowing children were being injured?

Edwards is turning into a little yapper dog (1.50 / 6)

... All bark and no bite.

He is essentially picking up on the line of attack that Obama pushed to no avail all summer.  Clinton vote for the war, voted to give Bush blah blah blah.

Granted Edwards is pushing it harder -  the bark, but I am not sure what it will get him.  Obama went no where with it.  Recent polling shows Edwards going no where - no bite.  So my gut tells me Edwards will gain little with this line of attack.

One of the problems is that he is hitting her on her strength.   Democrats when polled view her as the strongest and best to deal with matters of security.   Perhaps Edwards would be more effective he hit her on economic themes that dove tailed with his populist speil.

Who knows.  I think Edwards can yap all he wants.  I don't think voters are really listening anymore.  I think it is going to come down to Clinton and Obama in the last two weeks in Iowa, and who has the best ground game in Iowa.

Re: Not about Edwards, George. (2.00 / 1)

Plenty of Clinton supporters?  Please name five and I will concede that you are correct.  The fact is, the large majority of Clinton supporters condemned those comments about EE, including George and myself.  But nevertheless, we see constant comments about Hillary Clinton that the Edwards folks think are just great.  How many recommends did that repulsive Hillary Hitler diary get from Edwards folks?  How many of Derek Larsson's truly nasty photoshop pictures get mojo from Edwards folks?

Everything said about Clinton is fine, including "let's kick her ass", but one word of disagreement about Edwards and these folks descend on you like locusts.

The level of hypocrisy here is unbelievable.  Everything is the fault of Clinton and/or Clinton supporters, including attacks on Edwards from from Obama supporters (or vice versa), according to a diary today. I didn't realize we had so much control over the universe. I should be getting paid more.

George is right - Tom is busily TR'ing comments he doesn't like - not because they violate the rules, but because they're critical of Edwards.  Meanwhile, he's allowed to say anything he pleases about Hillary Clinton and get mojo for it.

Re: Not about Edwards, George. (2.00 / 1)

As far as hypocrisies are concerned, there is none bigger than the one you describe.  Ratings abuse galore when their candidate is not treated with adulation, but they themselves use slams that are worse on the hated candidate, and if someone complains about that double-standard, they troll-rate THAT too in addition to attacking the poster in the worst way.   This attempt at bullying needs to stop.

Either some Edwards supporters grow a thicker skin when it comes to their candidate, or they stop slamming, slandering and sliming Clinton.  Can't have it both ways.    That is not even counting the gratuitous POSTER ATTACKS and gratuitous RATINGS ABUSE, which has been beyond the pale for quite some time now.

Now we are coordinating with McCauliffe to lower expectations?

Why can't she win Iowa?
When people see her up close they don't like the fake questions and answers?

She is spending more money in Iowa and so what is her weakness?
And if she can't win in Iowa how can she be a good GE candidate?

She has a couple of tough weeks and the campaign starts making all kinds of mistakes.
