CT: Lieberman Endorses Local Republican

It's municipal election season here in CT.  In towns all across Connecticut candidates are knocking on doors, putting up lawn signs, and seeking endorsements from Statewide and Federally elected officials.  Last year's Senate race created some truly strange alliances and we're seeing the results of that this year, most notably in Milford.

Last year Milford's Republican Mayor James Richetelli and Democratic Speaker of the House Jim Amman both supported Joe Lieberman.  Both men campaigned for Lieberman, in post-primary.  Now in 2007 Amman and Richetelli are on opposite sides of an election: Richetelli's own.

Jim Amman has decided to go back to supporting Democrats, backing Democratic challenger Kerri Rowland.  Guess who Lieberman has endorsed?

Joe Lieberman has endorsed Republican James Richetelli  Next week he'll formally announce the endorsement during a fundraiser for Richetelli.

We can neutralize Lieberman's support by supporting Kerri Rowland, who along with the help of local Democratic bloggers, has waged a campaign on the Internet and on the ground.  Here is Kerri talking about education.

Joe Lieberman's endorsement should hurt any candidate more than it helps.  How do we make that happen?  Contribute to Kerri Rowland.

Who cares if he endorses a Republican? He is NOT part of the Democratic Party and could endorse whoever the hell he wants. Sure, he caucuses with Democrats, and we have to make sure we keep it that way for the time being.

It does not matter who Lieberman caucuses with.
The Iraq Occupation is going to go on and on .. until we get a new President that is serious about stopping it.

This 2006 Congress is not.
Change is off the table.

Who cares?  I care about my town of Milford, Ct being used again by Lieberman.  After he ran as an Independent the Speaker of the House in Ct Jim Amman continued to support Lieberman.  A democrate from Milford along with others in this town. This mayor also believes that local politics the party you belong to does not matter.  I think election day he will find out differently.  Go Kerri!!

Glad you brought this up.  All those Democrats last year who desribed Lamont v. Lieberman as win/win were wrong/wrong.

In North Carolina most municipal election's are non partisan so you are just as likly to have two Democrats or two Republicans against each other as not.  For this reason our state parties for the most part are not envolved in these elctions and every individual back who they please.  I guess Connecticut is different though.

I lived in Danbury Connecticut, and have lived in Massachusetts for over a decade. In Connecticut, Democrats (and Republicans) do not run against one another. But here in Massachusetts, you often find three Democrats running for the same office. I would say, the "party" concept is more limited than some would imagine.
