Nancy Pelosi refuses to help Congress Effort to End The War!

I remember the feeling of great hope in 2006, when the Democrats won control of Congress and a new U.S. House Speaker would be placed into a position of considerable power.

But Nancy Pelosi has shown her true colors as a political fraud.

She has voluntarily and unnecessarily granted to Dick Cheney and George Bush, full immunity and total escape from any investigation or prosecution for each and every violation of the U.S. Consititution, violation of Human Rights, or high corruption that they have committed either past, present, or future.  She has further enabled and strengthened the Bush administration's hand on the continued occupation of Iraq, so much so that the conversation has now shifted away from Iraq and over to being about starting a whole new War against Iran.

The occupation in Iraq will begin to end, of course, only on the day that Democrats -- and responsible Republicans -- in Congress decide to stop meeting the demands of the Bush-Cheney administration for more money to fund their imperial endeavor along with the massive corrupt war-profiteering by administration-linked firms such as Halliburton and Blackwater.

The latest outrage is her recent refusal to join and support in any shape, way, or form with the truth-telling, anti-War coalition in Congress that have brought forward a simple demand to only support appropriating new funds for U.S. military operations in Iraq for the protection and safe redeployment of U.S. troops out of Iraq.

Apparently that sensible and straighforward request was not acceptable to  Nancy "Bendict Arnold" Pelosi, who continues to fool the public and pretend like she has no political power whatsoever and even arrogantly scoffs at the concept of actually shuting down the engine of the illegal Occupation -- the spending itself (which does not require Senate intervention to acheive).

The following good guys/gals brought forward this nobel effort:

Rep. Lynn Woolsey (CA); Rep. Barbara Lee (CA); Rep. Maxine Waters (CA); Rep. Ellen Tauscher (CA); Rep. Rush Holt (NJ); Rep. Maurice Hinchey (NY); Rep. Diane Watson (CA); Rep. Ed Pastor (AZ); Rep. In a letter addressed to President Bush, these members said:

"We agree to only support appropriating additional funds for U.S. military operations in Iraq during FY08 and beyond for the protection and safe redeployment of U.S. troops out of Iraq before the end of the President's term in office.  More than 3,800 of our brave soldiers have died in Iraq. More than 28,000 have been seriously wounded. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have been killed or injured in the hostilities and more than 4 million have been displaced from their homes. Furthermore, this conflict has degenerated into a sectarian civil war and U.S. taxpayers have paid more than $500 billion, despite assurances that you and your key advisors gave our nation at the time you ordered the invasion in March, 2003 that this military intervention would cost far less and be paid from Iraqi oil revenues.  We agree with a clear and growing majority of the American people who are opposed to continued, open-ended U.S. military operations in Iraq, and believe it is unwise and unacceptable for you to continue to unilaterally impose these staggering costs and the soaring debt on Americans currently and for generations to come."

What "measure" did Pelosi refuse to support?  She didn't sign a letter?

This diary is incoherent, as usual.  Maybe you should stick to trying to make your points with Photoshop.

Nancy Pelosi just told Arianna Huffington that she agrees with David Obey's position not to report any war funding bill out of Appropriations unless it includes a fixed date for withdrawal.  Does that count for anything?

Nancy Pelosi is just about the most liberal Speaker of the House we could ever hope for, and yet the progressive blogosphere is not even close to having her back, ever.  If we want to avoid handing Congress right back to the Republicans we maybe need to get a little smarter when it comes to understanding who our friends are.

Nancy Pelosi is not the enemy.  Period.

No.
Because, this is just a smokescreen and not truthful, genuine, opposition to the perpetuation of the Occupation.

What the 89 members of Congress here did was provide real leadership, arising from the vacuum created by Nancy Pelosi, and true opposition to the Occupation of Iraq.

It was an effort to actually stop it. It says nothing about "timetables".
It says we will not provide any future funding beyond what is needed for redeployment and return of the Military.

Now, if Nancy Pelosi is not the problem here, then why did she not get behind and support this effort?  This is the only workable way to stop the occupation. Yet Pelosi is against that. Her actions demonstrate that she, in fact, is the problem, just as she also is on Impeachment.  She provides no leadership at all, just empty, meaningless windowdressing as a PR 'cover'.  But she has done nothing but strengthen the Bush administrations hold over Iraq policy by feigning that she has no political power and is powerless to stop it.

This is a lie (Pelosi).
Congress has the inherent power to send up no new funding as these 89 Congressmen have pledged to do.
That is real leadership.  Nancy Pelosi has none.

Nancy Pelosi has opposed the real opposition efforts here and her actions just ensure that the Occupation of Iraq will continue!
