Sen. Gravel takes Hillary Clinton to the woodshed - as WE ALL SHOULD!!

Senator Mike Gravel took Hillary Lieberman Clinton to the woodshed today, in a commentary written for TheHuffingtonPost
(see: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/sen-mike-g ravel/hillary-war-with-iran-is_b_66505.h tml ).

This really is a serious matter and we have to reject the War-Hawks who fool and deceive the public time and time again with this sort of trumped-up, dishonest, and reckless propaganda (about other impoverished but Oil-rich Nations) in order to give false 'political credibility' to senseless acts of Warfare and mass-violence and unlawful Corporate theft of their natural resources.

Excerpts:

"Hillary, I'm glad to see you got a good laugh when I confronted you during last week's debate over your vote calling the Iranian Revolutionary Guard (IRG) a terrorist organization. The American public finally got to see your cavalier attitude toward our march to war. Your vote however is no laughing matter.

By labeling the IRG a terrorist organization, the Democratic-controlled congress has impeded our ability to negotiate with a huge portion of the Iranian government. The IRG is a 125,000-person organization with ties to every power base in Iran. The IRG is also admired by a vast potion of the Iranian people for its heroic stand against Saddam Hussein's invasion during the Iran-Iraq War. Mohammad Khatami, the former reformist president of Iran, warned the United States not to label the IRG a terrorist organization because doing so would preclude any diplomatic settlement of our differences.

While I'm sure your vote plays well with the hawks and military contractors who support your campaign, it is the height of irresponsibility. Like with Iraq in 2002, elements in our government have already decided to attack Iran and are now trying to "sell it." Last week, Congress gave the warmongers a big gift."

Senator Mike Gravel

Why does anyone with a brain in their head support this dishonest War-propagandist?

She is the antithesis of the change in Washington that we seek.

War with IRAN is no laughing matter, Hillary!
You are disqualified!

Re: keep (none / 0)

Hillary Clinton never said that, and is and out right lie. It shows how desperate you are, the you yourself is willing to lie and misrepresent the positions of Hillary Clinton. You resort to the same far right tactics used against Clinton, Kerry and every other Democrat, yet have the nerve to show your face here on MyDD where many of us want a civilized and intelligent discussion. We don't want daily hit pieces on ANY candidate.

Re: keep (2.00 / 1)

You frickin Hillary whiners crying about someone using right wing attacks to change the subject from your gal supporting Lieberman. I know you probably support Joe Lieberman and think that makes you a Democrat or something. Well, Joe Lieberman betrayed and left the Democratic party regardless of who he caucuses with or what he calls himself. Face it, you support a Warmonger and that is the direction you want our party to go. And when we object to this direction and hit back at the Hillary inevitability machine you counter by comparing us to Republicans. Take your Republican right wing talking points attacks and shove em. They become very tiresome and only demonstrate how truly weak your arguments are.

Re: keep (none / 0)

You can criticize Clinton all you want. I don't care, but when Derek goes as far as posting pictures of Clinton laughing coupled with children with missing limbs and burned bodies and then say it is no laughing matter, it is disgusting, and exactly what the right wing will do. He did this in one of his earlier diaries.

Do I support Joe Lieberman? That depends. I am open minded and willing to support him or a Republican. In this case, I support the Kyl Amendment. I'm not someone who says my way or the highway, which is what you and Derek basically say. I actually like to hear the other side and consider their proposals. Am I a hawk? By your standards, I suppose I am, but I am a responsible hawk. I'm no cowboy and I am no rambo. I don't want war with Iran and I think if Bush goes to war with Iran without approval of the Congress, he must be impeached or we would have set a precedent that both Democratic and Republican Presidents can misuse. However, Iran remains a threat to our troops in the ground and it has become increasingly clear, we will be in Iraq throug 2008 and into 2009. We need to show Iran we mean business and they need to stop their meddling in Iraq. Hey they responded themselves by naming our military and the CIA as a terrorist group.

Re: keep (none / 0)

The Lieberman-Kyl Iran aggression is not responsible at all, as it is based upon a foundation of lies and disproven claims.

See:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-gareth- porter/liebermankyl-vs-the-evi_b_66020.h tml

Lieberman-Kyl-Clinton is just more reckless War-Propaganda designed to give Bush&Cheney the 'political cover' that they seek for  bloodshed.

Re: keep (none / 0)

It's funny. Now Hillary Clinton is joining with Jim Webb offering an amendment stating that bush must fist seek congressional approval to launch full scale war with Iran. The exceptions are 1)that it is not in response to an Iranian attack, 2)that an Iranian attack is imminent or 3) that it is in response to an attack in Iraq and they are chasing them back to Iran.

So, it is kinda funny that Mrs. Speaks out of both sides of her mouth Hillary Clinton is trying to cover the other side of her ass by supporting the Webb Amendment. Nevermind that it probably won't pass. It's good press ya see.

Re: keep (none / 0)

You see, you actually think Clinton wants war with Iran when she has explicitly said time and time again that is not what she wants. You think the Kyl Amendment is a declaration of war, which it is not because it has no legal standing and does not change American foreign policy towards Iran. I support the Kyl Amendment in expressing the sense of the U.S. that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard is a terrorist group, but I too have always said if Bush wants war with Iran, he MUST come to the Congress. I am happy Clinton and Webb are trying to push this and make it clear to the President he must seek Congressional approval for an offensive act agaisnt Iran. If he fails to do as such, then he must face impeachment. Clinton is not trying to have both ways. She is very much in the center of the debate and you fail to realize this because you are on the left of the debate and fueld by your hate for Clinton. I said, you can dissagree with Clinton, it's a free country, but you NEED objectivity. It is lacking on this site.

Re: keep (none / 0)

Sadly I feel that these legislative initiatives are subtly enabling the perception that Iran is the next likely or reasonable target for US military action in the Middle East.  I think it is dangerous to in any way legitimise this view.

Re: keep (none / 0)

Gee, with all those exceptions do you think it will ever stop Dick Cheney and Bush from doing just whatevertheheck they feel like anyway?

Imagine if our founding fathers had said:
"Only Congress can declare War, except if some other Country does something that the President doesn't like, or he feels like an attack might be imminent."

This is damage control, only the damage is not being controlled at all.

Re: Gravel is a raving lunatic (2.00 / 0)

Mike Gravel is indeed the best example of true leadership. As a U.S. Senator in the 1970s, he stood-up (when no one else did) and fillibustered the Vietnam War Spending bill over and over for 6 straight months.  What was the result?  Eventually, the Senate cut off the funding and the 10-year Vietnam War enterprise was starved off and Nixon had no choice but to start planning for withdrawal.

He also risked his own life by reading out the "classified" Pentagon Papers into the public record on the Senate floor so that thet then could no longer be held in secret away from the public domain. This action exposed the lies behind the Vietnam War which in turned helped stop the War. Gravel faced charges of treason because of this and was prosecuted by the Nixon administration. This is true courage and true leadership.

Gravel was a true "profile in courage" back in the 1970s and this is exactly the type of leadership that is missing from today's sheep-like Democratic Party that never wants to stand up for anything controversial and just voluntarily caves into Bush & Cheney and the U.S. Media each and every day.

We need 100 Senators like Gravel.
We need 0 Senators like Hillary Lieberman Clinton

I can do without some of his eccentricities but he is a true leader. More of a leader than the rest of the candidates put together. All of them. That is true regardless of what became of him.

1. You accuse Senator Hillary Clinton of laughing about the suffering children in Iraq.
2. You imply we should torture or even kill her.

Do you have no shame?

Re: Again... (none / 0)

I haven't heard her laugh about that but it wouldn't surprise me if someone asked the question that she might decide to stay on message and bust out with a cackle or two. And honestly I hope she does because the country needs to see how much of a fake she really is.

Re: Again... (none / 0)

That's the thing, she did not laugh about it, your friend Derek implied she did and now he implies we should torture or even kill her. Is that the type of thing you support? I understand that people have a right to speak their mind, but some things are just plain disgusting and sad.

No.

I accuse Senator Clinton of laughing about spouting forth dishonest and reckless War-Propaganda (as she did right on Tv during the deabtes).

The consequences of her actions both in 2002 and again in 2007 lead to the suffering children.

And, yes it is an outrage (her facilitation of phony Wars)!

Re: Sen. Gravel (none / 0)

How interesting- Gravel finally gets a diary written about him but no- it's actually a Hillary one- predictable.

All your digusting desperate pathetic tricks like putting a kid with no arms and pictures of Hillary and one of her laughing- which is just heinous- is not going to keep her from winning and I can't wait to put that in your face come February.  Tick tock, tick tock, tick tock- you're almost out of time- you better do a heck of a lot of better than this!

And how is directly enabling and supporting Bush and Cheney with their dishonest propaganda in order to start two unnecessary, tragic Wars (Iraq, Iran) ...  "HELP"-???

Hillary Clinton never even bothered to read the full unedited CIA Intelligence Report about Iraq (she only read the cherry-picked, executive White House Intelligence summary report).

Why do you want to reward incompetence and follow-the-herd cowardice?

Some of you guys just want the same 'ol NeoCon lies to continue ....
