Heading Left, Blog Talk Radio and SetADeadline.com

Bumped from the diaries -- Jonathan... These sound like some great projects for the Netroots to get behind

I wanted to give a quick update on a couple of projects I've been fortunate enough to have been invited to contribute to: James Boyce's new site HeadingLeft.com and the accompanying BlogTalkRadio show and Senator John Kerry's SetADeadline.com.

The misson of HeadingLeft.com is an ambitous one:

Heading Left will be a site that celebrates and aggregates the best writing and commentary from all of the best left wing blogs and websites including all the ones you've heard of and a few you just haven't heard of yet. Every day, we will showcase the best of the best, and we will let you know which pieces are getting read the most, which pieces are getting commented the most and which pieces are getting emailed around the most. We also will showcase news and information about the progressive community online and how it is changing politics as we know it forever.

We'll be rolling out a suite of aggregator tools in the coming months and recruiting a diverse editorial board to help us pull off this ambitious mission.

Last night, James and I kicked off the site with the inaugural broadcast of HeadingLeft on BlogTalkRadio.

Our first guest was the blogfather himself, Jerome Armstrong, who talked about his latest project -- Senator John Kerry's SetADeadline.com.

From the site:

Recently John Kerry wrote in the Washington Post, that with "U.S. troops in Iraq in the middle of an escalating civil war, this is no time for politics."

"Half of the service members listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial," Senator Kerry wrote, "died after America's leaders knew that our strategy in that war was not working."

President Bush's strategy is not working and we need to change course now. It is time to set a deadline for President Bush to redeploy our troops.

Last November's elections, when a Democratic congressional majority was elected, made it clear that this is the will of a strong majority of the American people. A movement is organizing, especially online, to make sure it happens.

Senator John Kerry will introduce legislation in the U.S. Senate to make President Bush obey the will of the American people.

With your vocal support, Senator Kerry can get that legislation passed and compel President Bush to redeploy our troops from Iraq.

SetADeadline.com is our first project to help mobilize the millions of people who have already signed on with Senator Kerry. We will work to be a key partner of the growing online progressive movement. Together, we can change the direction of this country.

Dave Johnson of Seeing the Forest then came on and discussed the recent series of posts he's co-authored with James on the GOP Smear machine and how it operates.

The final guest was Blog Talk Radio founder Alan Levy. Who talked about the concept -- it seems pretty cool so far, and typically the right wing bloggers have gotten the jump on it.

BlogTalkRadio is a platform that extends the blog, allowing any individual to host a live blogshow online. Our service is free to all users, whether you host a blogshow or listen in. Plus hosts earn half of all revenue generated by their blogshow and Host Channel page.

It basically allows anyone to host a call-in talk radio show that can be listened to live or pre-recorded off the Blog Talk Radio site. It's a natural extension of blogging in to mixed media. In upcoming weeks we'll have Governor Tom Vilsack of Iowa and many other guests -- maybe including you. Please let us know what you think about all these projects. thanks, Nate

These all look like great projects.  Heading Left, particular, sounds fantastic - what's the ETA on that?

Good next steps for Kerry (none / 0)

It's nice to see Kerry finally confronting reality and admitting he's not a viable candidate for 08...and even nicer to see him tossing his millions and his voice in the direction of a cool new project.

Looking forward to seeing great things come out of all of these -- though I'd argue with the Senator "this is no time for politics."  Indeed, it is the purpose of politics to facilitate better decision making by better decision makers.  By why quibble - set a deadline, indeed!

Re: Blog Talk Radio (none / 0)

I've been a guest on a couple Blog Talk Radio shows.  Very easy to set up, and you can even take calls.
