Kean Jr. Busted

Bluejersey pushed Tom Kean, and he just lied in front of millions of people today. I dislike the Kean family, because they are deeply unethical people. It's not a surprise to me that Kean Jr is a liar - his Dad was pushing the 9/11 documentary with known falsehoods.

The Kean's are very old-money, old-line blue bloods.  Rotten through and through.

Almost like, well, almost like the Bushes.

Re: Kean Jr. Busted (3.00 / 2)

I noticed this on Wikipedia tonight, that the so-called old IP address has apparently been busy http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Kean _Jr. "The same IP address was used to make edits to Wikipedia pages related to the election, often intended to enhance Kean's position."

Not a major issue or one that will have legs but Kean does come across as an oft-practiced liar. Great stuff when the newsman provided the IP address clincher at the very end.

The New Jersey polling tilted toward the GOP is a legit issue and let's hope it holds up again. Still, one thing irks me about this race, the ongoing silly insistence that voters are still confusing Jr. with dad and once they figure out otherwise Menendez will zoom in the polls. Talk about wishful rationalization, similar to our hidden cell phone users from 2004.

There were televised debates in that campaign beginning in late June. I checked out the media coverage at the time and Kean's picture was plastered all over the major papers and clips of the debate played on the local TV stations. Those early debates were heated and generated plenty of followup coverage.

Then I checked the New Jersey media during and shortly after the government shutdown and Kean Jr. was frequently asked to comment. Now you've got the Bluejersey issue, covered by the NYT, and Kean Jr. on TV denying everything. When, exactly, are we expecting the public to magically brainstorm the true identity? Kean's dad hasn't been governor since 1990. Think of the governor from your state in 1990 and pretend the public would believe he was suddenly running for high office again, and that false impression would linger for months, through the primaries, televised debates and all summer. Sure.

It's a close race because it always figured to be tight. Even when the polls after the early debates had Menendez significantly ahead, the odds on the race were always very close to even. I remember posting on DU after the odds on Kean moved 15 points in his favor on Tradesports in one day, back to 50/50. Tradesports has seen a ton of support for Kean Jr. all year. In fact, he's a slight favorite now, in the area of 54-46.

Re: Kean Jr. Busted (none / 0)

I don't think anyone seriously thinks a big block of people are literally confusing Kean Jr. with his dad anymore -- although still some are; one poll that TAPPED cited, IIRC, long after the debates had 12% of responders confused as to which Kean. I do think that voters are assuming Kean Jr. is just like his father -- moderate (allegedly), above the fray, intelligent, somewhat classy (again, allegedly); no one really bothers to look into his legislative and voting records in the state. That's the confusion.

Re: Kean Jr. Busted (none / 0)

One by one, the few Republicans whom I'd hoped were still principled, sane and competent are proving to be anything but. So goes the Kean family the way of Colin Powell, Christie Todd Whitman, John McCain, Mitt Romney and Rudolph Giuliani. It is simply not possible to be a successful and powerful Republican these days and be all these things. At this rate, they'll either destroy the country, or themselves, before long.

Re: Kean Jr. Busted (none / 0)

Giulani was never principled.

Re: Kean Jr. Busted (none / 0)

Romney was never principled.  Whitman was never principled.  Colin Powell never stood up for his prinicples.  Does that make him principled? McCain was never principled, only a grandstander.  Chuck Hagel, maybe.  But none of the people you named have ever evinced any principles.

Re: Kean Jr. Busted (3.00 / 0)

My point was not so much that these people were once pricipled and then stopped being principled--since it appears, as you rightly say, that many of them likely never were principled--as that the myth of their being among the few remaining principled people in a party made up of otherwise unprinpled people--a myth that they played up and successfully exploited for years--has been shattered. At least, among people like myself who never bothered to examine their records too closely, which if they did, they'd have seen how undeserved their "principled" reputations actually were, but which now is a conclusion that cannot be escaped.

I feel like an idiot and a fool for not having seen this earlier. Perhaps I just wanted to believe that there were some principled people on the other side (I still do, in fact, but the ones I view as principled or at least still have some hope for are not the marquee names such as these slick hypocrites). But faith is not enough without facts to back it up. And the facts speak for themselves. In any case, the public needs to know about these liars, lest any of them make a successful run at the presidency in '08. The last thing we need is another faux "compassionate conservative" selling the country out for a buck and the votes of the neocon, wingnut and fundie crowd.

These people are poison. They either don't care, or else are too stupid and/or crazy to be able to care. And they CANNOT and MUST NOT be allowed to run things any longer. They'll destroy us all if they remain in power for much longer.

Re: Kean Jr. Busted (none / 0)

What's scary is that the Jr. on TV lying his a** off is a lot more convincing than he was earlier in the campaign.  Maybe lying his is natural response.

Site display.... (none / 0)

OK - normally, I'm pretty tech savy...

But it seems whenever a post here includes a YouTube vid, I get about pages worth of empty white space between the opening text post and the end of the post/comments page.

Same occurs whether I'm using MSIE or Mozilla.

Now -- I haven't updated certain plug-ins (Flash, for example... I find myself much less annoyed with Flash ads on other sites because of this).

Anyone else had the same issue?  I'm figuring this is either an un-updated plugin, but hoping perhaps it's a setting issue I can resolve.

Re: Site display.... (none / 0)

I had this issue for weeks.  I ended up uninstalling everything, but I am pretty sure it was QUICKTIME that ended up being the culprit. Uninstall Quicktime, see if it helps.

Lame. (none / 0)

This is the problem with reporters vs. journalists.  This guy is all fluff and nutter with his "However, emails sent out on behalf of the campaign also happened to have that same IP address...and now for the weather, Jo-Jo seems like we're in for a wet one!"

I mean, cripes.  Here he has a chance to be Kronkite and call it like it is.

"Kean's statement, however, does not appear to be the truth.  Recently reporters at this station have received emails from the campaign that have arisen from the same IP address.  The issue here is not whether a Kean staffer posed as a disgrunted Democrat, but whether Tom Kean can be trusted to tell the truth when faced with an indelicate situation.  In this case, it appears not."

Your Cronkite (none / 0)

Your Cronkite memories seem ever so
vivid, and maybe mine are clouded by
advancing age. But did you actually
watch Cronkite yourself? It's been
many years now, and most folks posting
here seem too young for that. Anyway,
I don't recall any of the network anchors
EVER making a statement such as
you suggest.

The way this guy handled the story
was the norm. He stated the charges,
showed Kean's lame denial, then added
the bit about the IP address being
the same. He let the viewers make
their own connections and conclusions.

Viewers could see the TV news staff
thought there's something to these
allegations, based on their own, uh,
"reporting" -- that is, reading the
IP address on the e-mails they received.

We did quite O.K. with this coverage.

(I also loved the background visuals.
The woman holding up her handmade sign
reading, "Kean Jr is BUSH League" was
much fun to watch.)

"Bush League" visual speaks loudly (none / 0)

Most editors would have cut that background poster out in a second--if they hadn't been lied to so outrageously.

It's up to the Menendez Campaign to merchandize this rather complex computerese story in plain, nosepicker English. They should hire a moonlighter from the Star or Enquirer, one who gets a hefty six-figure salary for making things simple.

I will donate the headline:

"Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire."

Re: Your Cronkite (none / 0)

Yes, and I can't believe I misspelled it.  My parents, and I by extension, watched the evening news every night until his retirement.  No, I cannot recall passages where he said things exactly like what I said, but I do remember him being straight-forward about what he said and not beating around the bush or being afraid to say something brusque.  I also distinctly remember our whole family rolling our eyes switching to another station after the "Courage." thing.  Eventually, we came back, but none of us ever really got back into watching the evening news after that.

I seem to remember learning (I have no idea how to spell this):

The real damage (none / 0)

is to Keen's perceived 'truth'.  This article just laid out the facts that were proven by the MSM station, not some tin foil hat blogger.

Anything said going forward in the Keen campaign is now suspect.    The MSM now knows that they caught him in a lie.

It goes back to the old saying: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Oh, by the way, it's Cronkite.

First Look at Jr. (none / 0)

I haven't really been paying much attention to this race, so watching this video was my first look at Tom Kean...and boy, is he a junior! Amateur is what comes to mind from the start.

"Kean is Bush League" (none / 0)

Check out the video of Kean talking at the podium. Right behind him is a woman holding this sign up (and Kean supporters desperately trying to obscure it with their own signs).

And it just got broadcast all over New Jersey!
