Sponsor's Thread

And now for a word about our advertisers... A special thanks to all of our sponsors, without whom I would have to get a regular job.

It seems like you work harder at this than you would a regular job but I am sure it is much more enjoyable.  As a reader, I appreciate the time and effort you clearly put into your posts.

Re: New book by Isikoff and Corn (none / 0)

Bought the book on Saturday and it is riveting. It's not redacted, the scenes flow nicely and, so far, the cast of characters is not overwhelming. Actually, lesser-known players are introduced in such a way that they become a known quantity.

The timing is propitious, so I hope it has an impact. This book provides an excellent break from the talking heads and administration drivel.

A nugget from "Hubris" (none / 0)

Reading along in Isikoff and Corn's new book, my attention was caught by the name and bio of Anna Perez. Ms Perez was Condi Rice's chief of communications when Condi headed the NSA. During Sec of State Colin Powell's preparations for the UN speech to justify military intervention in February, 2003, Anna Perez was there to advise. Her public relations background extends from being the press secretary for First Lady Barbara Bush, 1989-1993, to a Hollywood talent agency, to Chevron and to Walt Disney, before being tapped by now-Sec Rice.

According to Sourcewatch, in May, 2004, she moved to NBC Universal as Executive Vice President for Communications. Just a hint of how Washington experience can result in a high-level corporate position.

The reverse is seen in the appointment of Carol E Dinkins, who was confirmed as the chairperson of the Privacy and Civil Rights Oversight board. When she appeared in June for the hearing, I checked her background. She had been at Vinson & Elkins, LLP, the law firm defending Enron.
