There's a reverse Lieberman/Lamont Senate Primary race in Hawaii on Sept 23.

Incumbent Dan Akaka Dan Akaka, pro-peace, voted against Bush's failed Iraq war, and running to keep his seat, is being challenged by pro-Bush/DLC/DINO Congressman Ed Case.

Case, who in many ways is more conservative than Lieberman, is actively going after Republican voters in this open primary.

It would be a shame to put Lamont in as a pro-peace Senator, just to have his votes cancelled by pro-Bush Case.

Akaka needs your help.

Lamont's people need to release a poll on a three-way-race pronto.

I'm guessing that he will now be leading by probably double digits. The more ammo the Dems have to convince Joe to bow out, the better.

The Reid/Schumer statement is incredibly lame.

Wake up people, that statement is as close as one can come to an endorsement.  They state as a fact that he's been good for his state and for America, then attribute his loss to a "perception."

They're hedging their bets here in a major way.  We need to get them to do better.

Edwards is a "national leader"?  What or who does he lead exactly?

This is a victory. I'm glad my money went to good use.

Funny thing is, I'm a moderate democrat, always have been. I'm a smart hawk on defense, always have been. That is why I sent money to Lamont, because I'm a moderate democrat that is strong on a SMART U.S. defense policy.

I'm quite happy with the statements of Emanuel and Reid/Schumer.  Not just because they are clear in their support of Lamont, but because both statements show that, finally, finally, the upper echelons of the Democratic Party get it.

It's not just about the war in Iraq.

It's about state-sanctioned torture.  It's about wiretapping without oversight.  It's about a President who says he can disregard any law he doesn't feel like enforcing.

It's about an Administration that demeans this country in the eyes of the world, that loses us friends, and that creates us more enemies.

It's about Osama bin Laden, our failure to prevent 9/11, and our failure to catch him now.

It's about the graft, and the incompetence, and the lack of planning or sense of urgency about the disasters--natural and man-made--we face.

It's about manufacturing intelligence to support cockamamie theories of empire while ignoring the facts about the world that inform good policy.  It's about phony terror alerts, paid-off pundits, and journalists who think their job is to transcribe the words of officials.

It's about Terri Schiavo, and stem cells, and the right to be left the hell alone.  It's about Social Security, and the bankruptcy bill, and the Medicare prescription drug debacle.  It's about the loss of American jobs, and the collapse of the housing bubble, and the ever-increasing tax cuts for the wealthy while the rest of us pay higher prices at the pump.

It's about politicians whose only constituents are the donors who give them money and the interest groups that endorse them.

But most of all, it's about enabling the worst excesses of the far-right-wing with a wink and a nod in the name of "bipartisanship."  It's about Democrats who parrot dishonest right-wing talking points, who can always be counted on to bash other Democrats and talk nice about Republicans.

We fight this only by showing the courage to stand up and stand together, to say that we are proud to be Democrats and that we will not let the thieves, whores, and zealots call us unpatriotic and treasonous while they loot our treasury, divide our citizenry, and desecrate the memory of those who fought and died so we might be free.

That's what it's about.

In the grand scheme and when the history of this race is written, the story will be how well Ned Lamont did in neutralizing opposition from incumbent Senate Democrats in the primary, and how well he cultivated their willing support for him in the general election if it comes down to a Lamont-D vs. Lieberman-Ind. contest.

. . . There is nothing to gain for any of them to be seen meddling in the primary of another state as Sen. Boxer learned.  And she was stumping for the incumbent!  The truth of the matter is that a significant number of the Senate Democrats believe they have more riding on Ned Lamont than even we do since they are the ones being tripped up by Lieberman on a daily basis.

As much as we rightfully complain about the decision by a Senator such as Barbara Boxer to actually hit the ground and campaign, Joe Lieberman is the one who feels (correctly) that the other Democrats in the Senate have left him out on a limb.  Most of the Dem. caucus is pulling for Lamont to win the primary and some are even smart enough to realize that Lieberman's a bigger problem for them than Lamont's campaign could ever be -- even if he tried.  A primary win on Aug. 8th will bring open arms on Aug. 9th by Ned Lamont's future colleagues.

Today, not only are many of the establishment Democrats in D.C. (not the DLC poseur lobbyists, but the ones who actually run for office and represent us) breathing a sigh of relief, many are downright gleeful that one of their biggest thorns and obstacles has been taken out by Ned Lamont.  Lieberman makes the job twice as hard for members who hate being in the minority, and tossing Lieberman is a dream come true for most.

Congratulations Ned!!

If Rahm Emanuel is saying things like that now, is there any chance the DLC will get rid of Marshall Wittmann, who doesn't even claim to be a Democrat and says far worse things than Lieberman? I'm tired of Democratic spokespersons going on TV and trashing Democrats by repeating Republican themes.
