Connecticut Polls Not Accessible to Disabled Voters!

"Tomorrow is Primary Day in Connecticut, with the nationally featured Senate race between incumbent Joe Lieberman and anti-war incumbent Ned Lamont.

Yet, still under the radar screen is Connecticut's lack of compliance with HAVA. Like New York, they will still be using the old style lever machines.
According to Electionline.org, thousands of voters with disabilities will lack the ability to cast an independent ballot."

As soon as I receive permission to post the full article - I will append here - stay tuned!

While I wait- consider the question  "would you be confident in your vote if you were required to read off your selections to a poll worker or volunteer?

Is Lamont hiring a bunch of election monitors? (none / 0)

I hope there wont be long lines in African American areas. THat will hurt Lamont.

What we can't afford to have is potential voters leave because it is inconvenient.

And, just so you know - I find your racial stereotype very offensive.  Please go away.

What is stereotypical? At least say what bothers you about my comment. You put up a diary about disabled voters. I took the liberty of expanding it to  generic issues regarding access to voting. No point opening up a new diary for every segment of the population.

And what exactly was offensive? It was a reality in OH. You can't expect people to stand in line for hours.

Don't be so touchy. Do not open up a diary if you can't carry a discussion.

You ask what I found offensive?  Your statement was targeted to one racial population - inferring that thay would not stay in line to vote.  Had you just posted generic "long lines" without the classification - no problem - but I still find your post offensive, and your resulting personal attack that I shun conversation inappropriately, equally inappropriate.  As I said - Please go away.

Shame we can't block posters in these open blogs - but at least you are exposed for the bigotry of your post.

Re: Access? Did you reply to the wrong diary? (none / 0)

Actually you seem to be the one who can't handle a discussion. The fact that you wish for a block on certain kinds of personal comments just shows what a friend of free speech you really are. The reason why I pointed out the black population is because most whites will not have the problem of long lines. Anyone with a little bit of common sense would know that if they looked at my comments. Of course, I support whites' access to shorter times during elections. But it was rarely an issue compared to black communities in OH. And I extrapolated that to CT. With black leaders giving CT so much importance, I did not want the polls to be unprepared for a possible strong turnout from black voters. If you actually read my comment without a chip on your shoulder, you should have known that is what I was driving at.

I would assume some people would not have their heads stuck up their behind to be so politically correct that they attribute racial stereotypes to comments that are actually advocating more access to african americans.

Your expression of a wish that go away gives me the right to question your demeanor in handling discussions. I don't speak for MYDD. But you better be able to handle discussions better if you want to put up a diary.

Re: Totally Off Topic Commenter.....Stereotypes (none / 0)

I guess I would just turn this around and say - maybe you need to better understand the damage of unthinking racial comments before making statements that smack of stereotypes.  Again, your comments did not require the racial characterization in order to be a valid statement.  I am appalled that you just don't get this.  SO, if you can't handle critique - perhaps you should not post comments to diaries.
