Major Netroots Page Fundraising Push

In just fifteen days, the 2006 campaign season will begin in earnest. Surveying the pre-election landscape, you have to like our position. Since the 2004 election, instead of cowering in fear and/or accommodating the mighty Republican political machine, we have worked tirelessly to best prepare Democratic candidates and the Democratic Party for the frantic nine-week push from Labor Day until Election Day. We helped elect a DNC chairmen how would be responsive to the new progressive movement and who would implement a fifty-state strategy. We joined with Democrats across the country to stop Bush's Social Security destruction plan, and our success in that area began a downward trend in Bush's approval rating from which he has never truly recovered. We fought tooth and nail in seemingly hopelessly Republican districts like OH-02, draining Republican resources and allowing Democratic committees to take the lead in cash on hand. We helped recruit candidates in a record number of districts nationwide, further spreading Republican resources thin and signaling that we would refuse to cede any corner of the nation to the radical, conservative movement. Every day we have fought the right-wing tooth and nail, building new progressive infrastructure along the way, and introducing the rest of the county to a gutsier, tougher American left than they have seen in decades.

As successful as we have been these past two years, the time is soon coming when our effectiveness in altering the 2006 election landscape will diminish. The netroots and the progressive movement have always been at our best during down-time for the establishment media and political infrastructure. Since we never slow down, we tend to do better when fewer people are playing, and the better our avant-garde, grassroots mechanisms can influence positive political outcomes. After Labor Day, all establishment players will join the election fray full-force, and as such we can expect a lower return on our non-stop investment of creative energy into our political system.

Before that comes to pass, I think it is essential that we make one last, grand gesture of political activism. Between this week and next week, we need to provide as many political resources as possible to the active candidates on the combined Dailykos / MyDD / Swing State Project netroots page. Money, volunteers, buzz--whatever we can drum up for these candidates before Labor Day, the more effective it will be in helping their campaigns change the country on November 7th.

For starters, we are looking for 100 new donors to each of the House campaigns currently active on the netroots page. For the three Senate campaigns, we are looking for 250 new donors. Whatever you can give, even if it is just $10, will help these campaigns significantly during the election season proper. If you live close to one of these campaigns, you should also sign up to volunteer. During this push, we will also introduce the new netroots candidates to the page. Please, help out today.

This election is key to reversing the dangerous direction our country has taken over the past several years. One of our netroots candidates, Darcy Burner, sounded the call to arms over the weekend:
We are at a very dangerous moment in the American experience. We are under attack by forces outside of this country: Terrorists who are focused entirely on killing Americans and destroying this country. And we are under attack from the inside, by an administration and a majority in Congress that would destroy those things that the American people have fought for and won over the last 215 years.(...)

We asked our men and women in uniform to go in and take out a government that we told them was a threat to us and they did that in less than three weeks.

We asked them to ensure that there were no weapons of mass destruction that could be a threat to us and they did that.

We asked them to maintain stability while the Iraqis adopted a constitution and elected a new government and they did that.

And at this point, they are sitting over there getting shot at because the Republican Congress and administration in Washington, DC cannot figure out what their plan is to give Iraq back to the Iraqis and bring our troops home, and that has got to stop.
This is the best chance we have had going into an election season since at least 1992. This is our chance to stop the advance of the conservative movement, hold the Bush administration accountable, and return progressive to the governing table nationwide. We have to do everything in our power to make as much of this incredibly opportunity manifest into reality. Right now, the best way that can be done it to dedicate your time and your resources. Please, volunteer for one of these campaigns today. Please, donate what you can to these campaigns today. The election is about to begin, and we need to be in the best position possible to stop the conservative movement in its tracks, and show the whole world that the American progressive movement is truly on the rise.

Chris,

I wish we were facing a genuine conservative movement.  I could deal with that just fine.  What we are facing is something much worse.

NY-29's Eric Massa (none / 0)

All of these netroots-endorsed candidates are terrific, but I wanted to put in a special word for Eric Massa, who's running in the 29th district of New York.

Eric's a 24-year navy veteran, one of the Fighting Dems, and is running against Congressman Randy Kuhl, singled out as one of the most vulnerable incumbents in the country. Go to Eric's website and learn about the guy--he's a phenomenal candidate, and has been gaining tremendous momentum as the race heats up.

So give genorously! Our district desperately needs a guy like him in office.

Please remember Joe Sestak in the PA 7th. He gave an awesome response to Bush's weekly radio address this week. He is a genuine patriot - not afraid to speak truth to power.
Here's his website if you have any questions
