Connecticut Rallies for Lamont

Here's a MyDD picture tour of the campaign.

After last week's positive movement for Lieberman, the dynamic has shifted perceptively against Lieberman once again.  Maxine Waters, who is enormously well-respected in the black community, came to town again this weekend to a massive public Temptations concert in New Haven.  The New York Times endorsement just savaged Lieberman, and gave a jolt of credibility to Lamont, who is increasingly looking like Senator Lamont.  On the ground, it's looking really bad for Joementum.  He is deeply disliked, and his campaign consists almost entirely of press stops.  There are just no crowds for him; no one wants to meet him.

Lamont's campaign is the total opposite, a real movement campaign driven by passion.  Here's a bride wearing a Lamont button on her wedding day.

Here's Maxine Waters, at the concert.

Lamont is packing rooms everywhere he goes.

There's no Joementum here either.

At the Greater Hartford Irish Festival, Lamont was a rock star, drinking Guiness and having a generally good time.  People are thirsty for change.  Um, ok, that was not acceptable, er, next picture!

And here's Lieberman's bus tour.  Two supporters, two reporters, and a press secretary.  Feel the Joementum.

Can we do more? I know that Matt can! (none / 0)

That Mr. Lieberman is in his current predicament reflects to a great degree the extent to which support for the war in Iraq has become a toxic position for a Democrat. But it also shows the ability of liberal blogs, like the Daily Kos, to stir turmoil in Democratic politics. (Whether they can do more than that will become clearer on Aug. 8.)

This is awesome.  Go Ned!!  But I think you mean "perceptibly," rather than "perceptively."

Hope So... (none / 0)

I just remember the huge Dean crowds in 2004 and how well that worked out. I remain hopeful but skeptical. Hope they've got a good GOTV strategy.

Re: Hope So... (none / 0)

I hope Lamont's studied the Dean campaign and made note of where it went wrong. And given that Ned has run an excellent, almost flawless campaign so far, it does appear that he did something along those lines.

Dean's followers (myself among them) were extremely naive about the Democratic establishment back then. We thought that since the Dem leadership was rolling over for Bush left and right and showing about as much fire and passion as John Denver on anesthesia, they wouldn't put up any fight against Dean. Bzzzzt. Of course, once Dean had been duly dealt with they went right back to their timid suckup ways...

I think Lamont has a better handle of what he's up against. Which is good, because he's taking on the entire national power structure, which has a HUGE investment in Joe Lieberman. This transcends partsan divisions -- establishment Democrats WILL team up with Republicans to squash any grassroots movements that might emerge.

I think they show signs of it... certainly beginning the campaign by getting 1000 volunteers in state to draft him, instead of 1000 national donors was a Tom Swan sign.

Re: Hope So... (none / 0)

The other thing was that the progressive blogs didn't have critical mass at that time and had little influence over the course of events. That has obviously changed quite a bit, although it's still not where anyone progressive would like it to be.

That Kossacks got Dean into the DNC was the first sign that progressive blogs could make an impact. And it is a deep impact.

But: I'm trying really hard to temper my enthusiasm this time. Joe and the forces of darkness still have the money and a good portion of the microphone, and they won't go quietly.
