Q2 Fundraising Numbers

In short, Congressional Democrats are thrashing their GOP opponents in terms of fundraising these days. The details:

The House

NRCC

June Receipts: $9,544,655
June Disbursements: $5,014,981
Cash on hand: $26,492,809

DCCC

June Receipts: $9.8 million
June Disbursements: (Unknown as of this post)
Cash on hand: $32 million

The Senate

NRSC

June Receipts: $4.8 million
June Disbursements: (Unknown as of this post)
Cash on hand: $19.9 million

DSCC

June Receipts: $8.8 million
June Disbursements: $4.6 million
Cash on hand: $37.7 million

The Parties

RNC

June Receipts: $8,967,429
June Disbursements: $7,415,741
Cash on hand: $44,681,057

DNC

June Receipts: $5,883,982
June Disbursements: $5,375,270
Cash on hand: $10,849,337

Overall, Republican committees hold only about an $10 million cash-on-hand advantage over the Democrats ($91.1 million to $80.6 million), which is low by historical standards. And the trend is moving towards the Democrats.

Nice haul (3.00 / 1)

Sounds like the DSCC and the DCCC are doing pretty darn well. And that's wonderful news.

Does this mean that Rahm Emanuel will FINALLY stop complaining so much about how Howard Dean is allocating DNC resources?

The Dems look to be in good shape (financially, at least) for the short-term. Dean is trying to build a juggernaut for the long-term. We need BOTH efforts to succeed, and it sure would be nice for all of us if Emanuel would come around on this.

Re: Nice haul (none / 0)

It should be noted that the DSCC and DCCC have done this well in spite of people like myself who have decided to give money directly to candidates who I know I agree with, rather than to the D*CCs which might give money to DLC types whom I'd rather throw out of office at the first opportunity.

Re: Q2 Fundraising Numbers (none / 0)

Democratic challenger fundraising has also been impressive this quarter. There was a great article in CQPolitics about this.

The story has links to a couple great charts of top fundraisers, but our favorite is this one showing that Joe is the #6 on the list of top challenger fundraising - and the highest-ranked netroots endorsed candidate!

I'm wondering if (none / 0)

the fundraising numbers that were reported previously might have been inflated by contributions to the various Reep legal defense funds . . . </snark>

Re: Q2 Fundraising Numbers (none / 0)

In short, Congressional Democrats are thrashing their GOP opponents in terms of fundraising these days.

Could it be because, with it looking as if Dems will win control in November, special interest bribes that used to go to Reeps are now going to Democrats?

With Democrats Lieberman goes for the jugular. With Republicans he goes for the lips.

Re: Q2 Fundraising Numbers (3.00 / 1)

No. Not so much. Most of Dems contributions come from individuals. And most PAC money that Dems are receiving is from the usual groups (e.g. unions, environmental groups, etc.). Dem PAC money is almost, 99% of the time way less than republican reliance on PAC money.

The increase in funding is mainly from increased Democratic enthusiasm, increased Democratic politicization (how many of us were this involved in Democratic campaigns 6 years ago? or even 4 years ago?), and the increased competance of the DCCC and DSCC.

If anything, 'special interests' should be giving MORE money to the republicans to try to keep their majority since the oligarchists are much better off with the republican trifecta than with a Dem house and/or senate.

Not all special interests (none / 0)

are oligarchists . . . what's hurting the Reeps right now is the fact that their policies have helped only a verrrrrrry narrow segment of the nation. Lots of industry types who might normally go Reep may be hoping to shake things up a bit simply because they feel left out of the feeding frenzy.

Re: Q2 Fundraising Numbers (3.00 / 1)

At least I know where some of the DNC money goes.  They just sent me (an activist in a red part of IL) 2000 Dem postcards and the mailing cost at least $25

I remember when I begged and begged for Kerry signs and none ever came.

Re: Q2 Fundraising Numbers (none / 0)

Weather,  I live in the Rockford area.  Rockford has been turning red and I intend to do what I need to do to get it safely blue.  The surrounding rural areas are very red.

If you contact Paul Hagarty from the DNC who is in charge of the local events he will be glad to send you the free cards.  I asked for 50 and got 2000!!!  I will give them out to all the candidates to use in their HQ, include them in our door to door packets and pass out at tables at city festivals.

Which Rockford are you talking about? If it's Rockford< IL, that town has been a GOP stronghold forever.

Re: Q2 Fundraising Numbers (none / 0)

those numbers are good, but unfortunately what matters as much if not moreso is the comparison for races that should be competative for us, but the differentiation between our candidates are not in our favor.  I don't have the specifics to site, but I'd be interested in a deeper analysis of the target ed races and their numbers juxtaposed with these numbers.  It's the combination of factors that helps us to win.  Party committees can only do so much.  If a potentially competative race just isn't pulling in the dough, they are likely to be removed from the targeted list.

Worrisome. (none / 0)

This is great in one facet, that big business realizes we can take back both houses, so they are hedging their bets.

This is worrisome in another fact, that big business realizes we can take back both houses, so they are hedging their bets.

wonder about that $44.7mil RNC money (none / 0)

that's the money that pours in the last fucking week of the campaign from mystery sources and with ruthless, dishonest campaign hit piece that the fucking committee cops a fine to after the campaign.

It'll also be the money that the RNC uses in court to fight re-counts should we win majorities in either chamber

That $44 million is worrisome.  They could do a lot of damage with that.

Re: Q2 Fundraising Numbers (none / 0)

I don't know how long you all have been following politics, but I have never seen such good fundraising numbers for Democrats. Very exciting!

What's up with the DNC cash-on-hand numbers? Those are disturbingly low...
