Blogosphere Day 3: Ned Lamont For US Senate

Two years ago, on July 19th, the blogosphere sprang into action for Ginny Schrader. In one short day, a long-shot race became seriously competitive. It remains so to this day. From the $50K the blogosphere raised that day, Republicans have spent more than $5M trying to defend the Pennsylvania 8th, and are prepared to spend millions more against Patrick Murphy.

Last year, on July 19th, the blogosphere sprang into action for Paul Hackett. In one short day, the blogosphere raise $100K for Hackett, and suddenly an extreme long shot race became very close. Over the next two weeks, that money blossomed into $500K, and the fifth most pro-Bush district east of the Mississippi and north of the Mason-Dixon line was pushed to the brink of blue. To this day, the extremely conservative Ohio 2nd remain competitive, thanks in large part to Blogosphere Day.<Br.<Br> Now, it is July 19th again. Today, the most immediate and pressing election for the progressive movement is the Connecticut Senate primary. With only twenty days to go, Ned Lamont and the progressive movement have pushed Joe Lieberman to the brink of an historic defeat. With nearly the entire Democratic and progressive advocacy organization establishment behind him, Joe Lieberman has done nothing but blow through millions of dollars, sink in the polls, and threaten to leave the party.

Our message is simple. No longer will candidates be considered unelectable for holding progressive views. No longer will the establishment take its supporters for granted. No longer will Democrats get away with boosting their own national image by facilitating the conservative movement and distancing themselves from their own party.

I do not have many complicated messages to give you when it comes to this race. We have already written more about this election on MyDD than any single election since the 2004 Presidential election. You can read you extensive archives on Ned Lamont, Joe Lieberman and CT-Sen. It should suffice to say that I believe this election represents nearly everything that the netroots is fighting for in our struggles to reshape the Democratic Party.

This election is only twenty days away. Ned Lamont will personally match every dollar we raise today with a dollar of his won. Today, your donations count twice.

Donate to Ned Lamont.

Ned Currently stands at $263K raised on Act Blue. We need a lot more than that. Hit it.

I think it's great to have this call to support Ned Lamont on this anniversary.

Please don't forget about the reverse Lieberman/Lamont race in Hawai'i:
Akaka v. Case.

Ed Case is pro-Bush, pro-Iraq war, pro-DLC, a DINO, and another Lieberman in so many ways.  In the open primary he's facing for Senate, he's doing his best to appeal to Republicans.

Dan Akaka just released the nicest of TV ads about his stand to bring the troops home, and he's in a huge fight to keep his seat.  He supported the Kerry/Feingold amendment, and voted against the war.

It'd be ironic if Lamont wins but Ed Case does too and cancels out all his votes.

Support Akaka too!

Here's a better link to the TV ad staring Dan Akaka about Iraq.  It's really moving.

Re: Blogosphere Day 3: Ned Lamont For US Senate (3.00 / 1)

I'm still amazed by this -- the guy has about $90m in a personal fortune and you want us to donate to him?

Why not support progressive candidates like Dina Titus, for Governor of Nevada, who is facing an onslaught of negative attacks from a corporate-funded conservative "Democrat" (one far to the right of Lieberman) in the primary on August 15th.

Titus is running on a platform of ethics reform (in state where 4 elected officials where just convicted by a federal court of taking bribes), renewable energy (in a state that could go fossil-free if we decided to it), economic diversification (including into high-tech industries), smart growth, and improved educational funding (in a state that is dead last).

And she's already set a record in Nevada for support from a small donor base; she's got local blog support ...and yet, as today's Hotline pointed out, no one is paying attention.

Gotta say, I completely agree.  Ned Lamont is costing a lot of candidates who cannot get money as easily elsewhere.  I just think the amount we put it is a drop in the bucket for him, when it would be like manna from heaven for others.

and don't forget to add a bit for BlogPAC and a tip for ActBlue.  Building progressive institutions is important in the long run.

Keep it in PA-8, Where It Began (none / 0)

The Hill is reporting that Patrick Murphy has closed this race to the margin of error:

GOP Rep. Mike Fitzpatrick's lead over his Democratic opponent has slipped to just six points, according to a poll of the suburban Philadelphia district released Tuesday by Global Strategy Group, a Democratic polling firm.

Challenger Patrick Murphy is behind 44 to 38 percent, with 16 percent of voters undecided. In March, the gap was 14 points, but since then Murphy has increased his name recognition by 17 points. When pollsters gave respondents a fuller biographical sketch of Murphy, he led Fitzpatrick 55-36 percent.

Support Patrick Murphy, a netroots, fighting Democrat.

Donated to Tester and Lamont...

And it's my first day on the site as a registered user.  I even work for a pipeline company...there's blue forces everywhere.  I just spent the last 20 minutes lecturing the president of my company about faux-moral leadership and how the Republican party is a corupt institution focused only on power.

Re: Blogosphere Day 3: Ned Lamont For US Senate (none / 0)

Ned Lamont needs to win the primary on August 8th, or it's over; so it's crucial to give to Lamont's campaign now!  He is already putting in a lot of his own money and the rest comes from  donations from us.  He has a great chance of winning the primaries and your donations will help ensure this win!!!

I live in CT and support Lamont.  The only way we can stop Bush is to have real Democrats like Lamont in the Senate.  Lieberman as you know is "Bush's favorite Democrat" because he just keeps giving and he just gave his vote to pass the Oman Free Trade Agreement!  With fake Democrats like Lieberman, who needs Republicans!

Re: Blogosphere Day 3: Ned Lamont For US Senate (none / 0)

Thanks, Chris.

I was just considering the timing of another contribution to Lamont, and I see today is the day.  I hit a couple others like BlogPAC, Eric Massa and Joe Sestak, too.

Happy Blogosphere Day! (none / 0)

July 19th was exactly two weeks before the election last year, but this year Lamont already has the momentum and almost three weeks!

And remember, neither the Hackett nor Ginny catapults ever could have happened without Act Blue. So if you see anyone acting blue today, wish them a happy Blogosphere Day!

THIS ATTENTION SHOULD REALLY BE GOING TO JON TESTER, who is far behind on funds and could make as much if not much more of a difference than a lamont victory
