George Soros Dips His Toe into the (Video) Blogosphere

I participated in a conference call last Sunday evening with George Soros.  He is putting out an important book called The Age of Fallibility: Consequences of the War on Terror in which he describes how reality can be manipulated and distorted by political actors, and the consequences of doing so.  I enjoyed his comparisons between financial bubbles and political actions, and his discussions of his foundation activities over the past thirty years.  Now he's coming into the internet sphere, the new arena of public discourse.

Personally, Soros is... surprisingly cool, a sort of supersmart grandfatherly wise man.  Amanda on Rocketboom interviews him here.  It's very much worth watching.

I'll be blogging more about the ideas in the book and Soros himself over the next few weeks.  His book, along with those of Will Marshall and Peter Beinart, represent a real opportunity to rethink our approach to the world.  It's neat that Marshall, Beinart, and now Soros are coming into the blogs to do so.

I'm surprised we don't hear more about Soros here in left blogistan. For all the talk about building institutions and infrastructure, this guy has done it. He's willing to put his money where his mouth is as far as enacting a progressive agenda globally.

Looking forward to hearing about Soros' new book, I'm still working through a biography of his mentor, Karl Popper.

I'm jealous, I'd love to have been able to question Soros like that.

Is Soros is serious, he needs to recreate ACT and start an American Press. He's done it before.

Soros on Rocketboom...a sign of the times. (none / 0)

George Soros on Rocketboom...Now that's my idea of "convergence," and a reminder of how important it is that we have a high-speed neutral Internet.

I don't know if Soros has said anything publicly about net neutrality, but I'd love to see him speak out (and maybe invest a few billion--and even make a profit--helping to bring the progressive message to the world of Internet video).

The times they are a changin'.....I hope all you bloggers have a fun and productive multi-face-to-face in Vegas.
