Inconvenient Truth Open Thread

So I haven't seen an Inconvenient Truth yet, but I did see the presentation and it was impressive and terrifying.

Use this thread to talk about Al Gore or an Inconvenient Truth.  Or X-Men III.

We know where Democrats will be gathering this summer. Take your voter registration applications, absentee ballot applications and volunteer sign ups, because An Inconvenient Truth is the best recruiting opportunity Democrats have had since Farhenhiet 9/11.

X Men drove me nuts. Like Ebert said, it's like the guy running between all his spinning plates- nobody got a chance to really be cool.  I have to wait a long while for AIT unfortunately since my town is full of Marines. blah.

Re: Inconvenient Truth Open Thread (none / 0)

I found my theory on X3 worked quite well.

I went in expecting trash and what I got was refreshingly good.

Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X3) = bad director. All this has done is make me look forward to Superman Returns which is being directed by Bryan Singer (X-men, X2)

Still, with my expectations as low as they were, I walked away happy but was still able to point out where the movie could have been improved. At least Kelsey Grammer pulled off a VERY good Beast.

Yeah, I went in wanting nothing but a few cool effects and wasn't really disappointed I suppose. But I wouldn't have minded it being nothing more than a three hour epic x-men battle a la peter jackson or something.

I'm not sure what to make of Superman to be honest. I never really got into Superman in the first place, and the previews I've seen have really been lame.  That said, yeah- Brian Singer is great with these sorts of movies so I don't know. I think maybe I'll just stick with Nacho Libre and Pirates of the Caribbean for the rest of the summer and hang out at the beach.

Re: Inconvenient Truth Open Thread (3.00 / 1)

An Inconvenient Truth won't be in my neighborhood till next month, but that's not too far off. As far as I'm concerned, Al Gore is the rightful 43rd president of the United States, rather than that incompetent usurper in the White House.

Unfortunately, Bush and his wrecking crew will most likely be in place till January 20, 2009. I wrote Pardon my president as a speculative piece on what will happen that day.

X-3 was a disaster. You don't feel any tension about the characters until the final showdown, an hour and twenty minutes into the flick.

The dialogue seemed stunted, and they threw away characters that had been given significant development over the course of the two previous films.

Two positives: Kelsey Grammer and Ian McKellen helped keep the movie on at least somewhat of a solid footing. Ratner's direction of the other actors seemed like a teenager trying to make it through the boring parts so he could get to the cool action scenes.

And what was with all the killing? X-3 must have had twice as many deaths as the first two combined. Did the X-Men even save a single person outside of that last battle scene?

A disappointment. Let's hope they don't make a fourth, but the box office probably has the suits already giving it the greenlight.

Re: Inconvenient Truth Open Thread (none / 0)

It's long been speculated that X-Men would be a trilogy and nothing more because so many of the team's characters have built-in fanbases that make them ripe for spin-offs. The fact that the X3 budget spiraled out of control when Ratner took over was the final nail in the coffin for X4.

Look for "Wolverine" in 2009 or 2010.

Yeah- what I've heard is that the plan was for three X-Men movies and then individual movies for all of the main characters.  My question though is- where the F is Gambit?
