Representatives to Whip on the House Judiciary on Net Neutrality

Ok, so the House Judiciary is going to mark up Sensenbrenner's great net neutrality bill tomorrow. Many of the Democrats have been pressured by the Communications Worker's of America to vote down the net neutrality provisions. The CWA came out publicly against net neutrality just now because the telecom companies have convinced them that this is vital to their industry. The CWA has made a grievous error here, with SEIU taking the other side. I just learned that these are the members to contact on the Sensenbrenner bill. Here's what to say. Urge them to support the bipartisan Sensenbrenner-Conyers Net Neutrality bill (HR 5417) in the Judiciary Committee on Thursday -- and to support it without amendment. Saying without amendment is key.

Why only the ten Dem reps? (none / 0)

According to the Judiciary site, it's a full committee markup tomorrow - so presumably all 16 Dem members (not counting Conyers) should be present.

Or are the others sure things and it's only these ten who are on the fence?

What about the GOP reps? Presumably they're getting a hefty telco bashing right now, and could do with some pressure in the other direction?

One or two random thoughts...

Re: Why only the ten Dem reps? (none / 0)

I wouldn't worry about Marty Meehan or Chris Van Hollen, especially Van Hollen. Van Hollen is one of the most progressive representatives in the House, and Marty Meehan (nor anyone in the MA delegation) would likely break on a rather important vote like this.

Re: Representatives to Whip on the House Judiciary (none / 0)

This is not, and should not be, a surprise.

The telecomm companies are among the few firms with a substantial union work force.

The companies also advertise heavily about their large work forces.

The unions are used strategically in every single political fight the telecomms get into.

They have been used in this way for decades.

Here's a better way to attack.
