Why are the Republicans so afraid (of the truth)?

From the diaries--Chris

Hi folks.  I wanted to come on here and responds directly to some recent baseless and desperate attacks on our report America for Sale, from our friends on the far right.

Instead of challenging the fundamental truth of the America for Sale Report; my Republican colleagues have resorted to what they seem to do best: attempt to smear anyone who dares question them.  They are suggesting that the report was a political document, and are now engaging petty and desperate attacks on how the report was posted online. By the way it is still available online, and you can read it by clicking here

Why are the Republicans so afraid (of the truth)?

They are desperately trying to discredit a report they can't discredit on its merits because this report is backed up by more than 650 pages of articles published in newspapers, periodicals around America.

We are not making anything up.

They are afraid because the America for Sale Report explains directly and effectively how the corruption of our legislative process has impacted the lives of all Americans and very clearly falls under the purview of the Rules Committee. I stand proudly by the report, and believe every American should have the opportunity to read this document about how our government is really being run.

It is becoming very clear that the America for Sale Report is simply hitting too close to home for my colleagues in the Majority.  However, I will not be intimidated by their threats or their scurrilous, baseless accusations.

And I would advise my colleagues that rather than trying to shoot the messenger, their interests would be better served by working to clean up the corruption of our legislative process which has been so clearly articulated in the America for Sale Report, especially considering that public confidence in this Congress is at an all time low.

You can still read the America for Sale report online by clicking here. Thank you so much again feel so welcome to this wonderful community. Let's keep up the fight. - LMS

Why is Pelosi scared of the truth? (3.00 / 1)

Geographically, I'm represented by Nancy Pelosi. In her latest piece of franking mail, she wrote:

Only by restoring truth and trust in our government can we roll out an agenda to renew America's promise.

Does this mean that we won't see congressional Democrats offer an agenda until after your America for Sale report is put back up on the House Democrats website?

Good point, or taken another way.... (3.00 / 1)

Why are Democrats so afraid of Republicans?

Thanks again (none / 0)

We wwant to help you get more exposure for this.  This is brilliant work.

If there are any Hill staffers reading this, please tell your bosses to wake th hell up.  They should be pushing this, and ethics charges against Republicans, to position the party to take over the House this year.

You have a better chance of taking over if you are coordinated and aggressive than if you remain loyal to this idiotic, off the record ethics truce.

Please file ethics complaints.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW)has filed numerous complaints but no one in the house has stepped up... Why?

You have been a tireless crusader on corruption so why has this avenue not been used ?

Thank you Rep. Slaughter

A bad move from Team Slaughter (none / 0)

Straight off the bat - it's extremely bad manners to provide a link to a page which is behind a pay-wall (in this case, Roll Call) without making this clear.

Even The Note doesn't bother with Roll Call links as a courtesy to the vast majority of its readers who don't have a subscription.

(Just a Note to whoever scribed this piece!)

Next - said scribe clearly has not been reading the leading lefty blogs - including this one! - or is deliberately ignoring the main complaint about this business: the Pelosi kow-tow. (The point of earlier commenters here.)

The fact that this is left as a super-jumbo elephant in the room in the piece screams that this is an item of hack-work whose author does not care that it insults our intelligence.

And Amen to the call for Slaughter herself to get the Ethics Committee moving with a complaint or two.

She won't - because Pelosi has her hog-tied. As we've established for some time, Dem Congressmen will file ethics complaints over her dead body. And that goes for Slaughter, too.

(I can't see Slaughter confronting Pelosi on the issue, and putting her position at risk in an election year when House control is genuinely in play.)

Of course, it's possible even in the real world that Pelosi will come to regret her ultraconservative policy on ethics when it comes to elections for the Dem House leadership in the 110th.

Especially if the Dems have won back control, and her troops wonder whether so careful a general would make the most of their opportunities.

They're afraid of the truth... (none / 0)

...because they're liars!  As Jon Stewart said after Katrina, "If you don't want to play the blame game, it's because YOU'RE TO BLAME!"  Same thing applies here.

Thank you, Representative Slaughter.  Thank you for standing up to the Republican slime machine; thank you for what you are doing for our country.  More of our public servants should look to your shining example.
