Re: Why is there a Senate primary in Ohio? (none / 0)

Watching this race up close for the past few months, it's been a little weird from the gitgo.

Brown came out of the gate in nuclear mode - real slash and burn stuff, which still doesnt make any sense to me considering he had a big money edge and an apparent 30% primary lead (it was his own internal poll).

Why all the inside moves if you are in such a strong position ? I would have expected a candidate who thought he had the lock to sit back, raise the money (which he really didnt do) and build the grass roots GOTV engine - which i still am not seeing.

He has alienated most of the Ohio blogs, the press in Ohio isnt very flattering, he fired his political and field directors recently and is constantly scrubbing his grow ohio website of gaffes.

For all his impressive progressive credentials, it's been a real long time since i have seen such a badly run campaign - and other than Dewine catching his "plagiarizing" Dewine hasnt even began campaigning yet.

I am more than a little concerned that after 12 months of Ohio GOP bashing for corruption in the press (Tom Noe got indicted on 53 counts today, LOL) that the polls are still showing the GOP and Dem candidates for Senate and Gov tied.

We have some serious problems in Ohio with dysfunctional Democrats - no wonder we havent won a statewide election since 1992 with john Glenn.

Urgh, it's frustrating living here.

big staff changes? (none / 0)

That doesn't sound like a campaign with a plan to win, that sounds like a campaign trying not to lose (against an incumbent Senator with far more money).

Yeah, Governor Taft's people probably wouldn't remember the ad that made them famous until it was mentioned on a Democratic blog.

Re: Our little Lee Atwater (none / 0)

The point is Bob, is why you feel the need to repeat it?  If you ran against Kerry in a primary, would you be comfortable with them airing SBVT ads?

Yes, they can recycle their attack ads against us.  Why though, is a fellow Democrat?

Re: Our little Lee Atwater (none / 0)

Most people reading blogs believe that more discussion is better. This is going to come up in the general, why can't we talk about it in the primary. I'm fairly convinced that the only reason we are stuck with a primary is because Brown wanted this (and everything else) to come out early.

I mean, shit, Sherrod Brown has more baggage than the Queen on safari.

Again Bob, would you be comfortable, if you were running against Kerry, to start using SBFT ads?

Re: Our little Lee Atwater (none / 0)

My candidate?  Do I live in Ohio?  Have I volunteered in Ohio?  Donated money to either candidate?  No.

And, of course Bob, you still cannot/will not answer the question.

Re: Why is there a Senate primary in Ohio? (none / 0)

This theory seems a little farfetched.  As demonstrated by his campaign so far, Brown isn't nearly savvy or competent enough to pull something this complicated off.

Indeed. But that doesn't mean they didn't try.

Re: Why is there a Senate primary in Ohio? (none / 0)

The more I read about Ohio the less I understand what is really going on between Brown & Hackett.  I've said it before & will say it again though -- sometimes a hard fought but fair primary can be a good thing.  Not always, sometimes.

The  Maryland Governors race in 2002 is an example where the Dem. party would have been better off if the establishment Dems had not prevailed upon O'Malley to bypass the primary.

Anyway, may the best candidate win in Ohio!

There's not.

Re: updated: unrecommend (none / 0)

The Brown/Hackett thing in Ohio is probably way too complicated for diaries about it to be deleted. We all need to know a lot more about what the hell is going on here.
