Wow. I'm not sure how much a campaign manager sways voters, but it's not about voters here, it's about pundits, McCain's #1 constituency. And this is the kind of thing that'll sway pundits ... poor Chris Matthews must be torn between his man-love for McCain and his disgust at the racist "bimbo" ad.

McCain's campaign finance reform included a scam to help Senators running for President and left a huge loophole for the Swift Boat Vets to drive their lies through, and then he hires one of the sleaziest guys in America to run his campaign.

Last May, regarding Terry Nelson's possible involvement in the Tobin phone jamming scheme against Democrats in New Hampshire, John McCain said that he had "no qualms" about Nelson's ethics. Can you believe it? I had marveled (aghast) in 2004 that the Republicans would have kept these creeps on as long as they did. Tobin tried to use every last measure of the law to shield him from the filth that he did and the Republicans never lifted a finger to oust him until it was certain that he'd be found guilty. I believe they lost the 2006 elections because of the unethical filth they've willingly shielded and defended. And now McCain is shielding one of them as his very own. There must be a political price paid for this. Writing about it and continuing to talk about it, as you've done, Matt, will help to exact the fitting price.

McCain is going to go down in flames if he keeps running to the right. They never have liked him, and eventually, the mainstream media will wake up from their fantasies and recognize that the McCain of 2008 sure as hell ain't the same one from 2000.

When the MSM confronts McCain on the merits of his decision to hire Nelson, I'll believe it possible for them to "wake up from their fantansies." But not until then.

Nelson also worked as a senior adviser for Wal-Mart.   He was sacked after Wal-Mart got heat from the Harold Ford, Jr. ad Nelson created.  But, he was one of the major leaders in the Wal-Mart war room, trying to convince America that poverty-level wages and unaffordable health care are good for our community.

A corrupt guy as campaign manager can blunt that issue for McCain.

So McCain had "no qualms" about the phone-jamming; I suppose that goes for the robo-calls, too. Will those be investigated in the new congress? I understand such calls were frequent in the Philadelphia area, according to a friend who lives in Rosemont.
