Alright, we've got an announcement. MyDD is hiring the indomitable Taylor Marsh to cover the nurses lockout in Las Vegas. We're not sure how long this fight is going to last, but Chris and I feel very strongly that labor and the netroots need to build a long-term alliance because our interests align. You might have noticed over the last two months of the election we had a bunch of sponsored areas of the site, including the Governor's forecast and a series of posts from the Teamsters. This is a similar arrangement. SEIU is going to be sponsoring coverage of this dispute.
Taylor's role is to give us a sense of what's going on in Las Vegas, to cover the politics, and to help the netroots play a role in ensuring that the concerns of these nurses regarding their patients are taken seriously by United Health Services. Now, we're not covering this dispute because it's a good thing to do. MyDD as a site focuses entirely on progressive political power, and labor disputes like this are where the rubber meets the road. The right has undertaken a successful 50 year campaign to destroy unions, and as a result union density has declined, leading to a much tougher electoral map for us Democrats.
We're hoping that better coverage of labor fights, including the political arrangements that help or hurt workers, will improve the climate for progressives. We're also hoping that all of you get involved however you can in putting pressure on United Health Services. Please blog about this fight, research it, or do whatever you can, and let us know. We're going to be linking out as much as possible to other blogs covering the Las Vegas fight. These corporate goons fund the right-wing that attack us every day, and it's time to stop their immensely cruel practices and vicious political tactics.
