Looks as if they will nominate former CIA head, Robert Gates for Secretary of Defense

Republicans stealing the Senate? (none / 0)

If Bush appoints Lieberman as the Secretary of Defense, will the Republican governor of Connecticut be able to appoint his replacement? I'm not familiar with how Connecticut handles that kind of situation. Could this be a ploy to get control of the Senate back?

Oh - now he resigns! Would it not have made sense two months ago? Worse yet, they replace him with another politician. How about a general - or better yet, Colin Powell?

Good Grief, with enemies like these, who needs friends?

I'm almost positive that the Gov. can appoint a succsessor in CT. It wouldn't make sense for Joe to take a lame duck SecDef job for a couple of years when he just won a new 6 year term.
