Larry Kissell is Running for Congress in 2008

It has been a heartbreaking night for many of us.  While we have been realistic about the odds all along, it doesn't make it hurt any less.  Larry isn't letting us down, though.  He has immediately announced that he will continue his run for Congress in 2008.

Larry sent emails to friends and supporters and immediately followed it up with a post at BlueNC at 6:00pm.  RANT followed shortly afterward with a post at DailyKos.  The Netroots community was notified before the corporate media.  Larry hasn't forgotten and never will forget who supported him throughout this campaign.

None of us will forget all of the people who rec'd diaries, commented and cheered us on.  Many in this community sent contributions long before Larry was endorsed formally by the Netroots.  Thank you.

Larry's statement:

"The fight for the future of this District is too important to postpone another day. That's why I'm running for Congress in 2008 starting right now.

After today's recounts, I offer Congressman Hayes a belated congratulation for his victory now that the votes have been counted.

When I started my run for Congress I said it's not about who you are or how much money you have, it's about what you stand for.  The folks who voted for me knew I stood with them.

And while the 2006 election is officially behind us, I recognize that the future is already upon us.  My vision of the future is simple, help those who have been pushed aside by the Washington politicians and special interests.

I offer Congressman Hayes my prayers that he return safely to Washington and that he and his family have a blessed holiday

I've worked on many campaigns and managed a few.  Falling short doesn't seem to get any easier, but it certainly helps ease the pain knowing Larry isn't giving up and is ready to stand up for us again in 2008.

Thank you all, again, for everything you've done.  I know we all appreciate everything from the recs to the contributions to the  cheers when things went our way.  This has been magical.  Thank you for being a part of it.

Gosh, if Tim Tagaris (none / 0)

was aware of these little things called state and local blogs he would have known about this news a full hour and a half before the AP posted the story.

Oh well......Guess fame went to his head.  :)

Good luck, Tim.  You're doing great work....and I'm just teasing...then again.....

Question (3.00 / 1)

I look forward to continue working on the issues of importance to each county and local community," Hayes said in a statement.

Why the hell would he start now? Jackass.

Re: Larry Kissell is Running for Congress in 2008 (3.00 / 2)

Good to hear about Kissell running in 2008.  His campaign was a real inspiration.  He seemed like a break from the typical person who runs for office (ie, not rich or having spent every day of their lives since they were 10 calculating how they were going to run for office).

Hopefully his campaing will encourage more people to get involved.

Re: Larry Kissell is Running for Congress in 2008 (3.00 / 1)

The "I look forward to meeting the additional 327 people" line is awesome. I take heart in the hope that we'll eventually get to say, "congratulations, Rep. Kissell."

I have no doubt we will have the chance (3.00 / 1)

to say just that.  Thanks for stopping by.

Larry is back to teaching and the rest of us are back to planning world domination....well....at least 8th District domination.

I think a lot of us will back him with the same enthusiasm, but we've lost the advantage of surprise. We will need to raise more money, next time.

I went ahead and put him on the 2008fund ActBlue page, already:

You're right (3.00 / 1)

but I still think Hayes will underestimate Larry.  Fortunately, we know how the district responds in presidential elections.  This year was an unknown with it being a blue moon election.

The best news is that we have to fill the Governor's mansion, Senate seat and White House in NC in '08.   As you know are state legislature, Governor and most other state-wide offices are Dems.  We will be out in force and all the usual GOTV teams will be operating.

Larry Kissell is an inspiration to all of us true blue dems in this sea of Red in NC....GO Larry Kissell!  Look forward to the good fight to '08 when you WILL be the next Congressman from North Carolina!
