Mayor of Houston helps settle strike

Apparently I couldn't have been more wrong (a specialty of mine) in my previous comments blaming Mayor White for the police actions during the strike. The strike was settled today and he's being credited with behind the scenes arm twisting that brought the strike to a happy ending. Well done Mayor White.

Remember when we discovered that Martin Frost had run adds touting his closeness with Bush?

They sure do make 'em different down there.

Re: Mayor of Houston helps settle strike (none / 0)

I was beginning to wonder why the city wasn't flat out rioting. Not because I support that kind of action. It was just disturbing to me because when Rodney King got beat down LA was in riots. at the 1968 democratic convention the streets were in uprising. It was the most likely response and that didn't happen. I find that disturbing. It tells me that we're not shocked by that kind of brutality anymore. It tells me that we're a repressed people. It tells me that propaganda is working.

Good thing it didn't have to come to that.

What good do riots do?

All they make you do it look really bad to everyone else (even your supporters) and the rioters never win because the police have more guns and better training.

Bill White for Senate? (none / 0)

Why the hell not? I think he'd win in '08.
