It really has been a bloodbath.

It reminds me of 1998, Newt Gingrich, the then Speaker of the House was predicting a 30 seat pick-up in the House. These were the halcyon days of the Clinton Impeachment and Gingrich became the target. Instead of the Republicans gaining 30 seats, they LOST 5 seats to the Democrats. Even though Gingrich won his election that year, he was tossed under the bus with extreme prejudice. Hell, he didn't even serve the term he was just elected to.

It was a startling lesson - Republicans really do eat their own.
