Voter Registration Deadlines

I had this data on voter registration deadlines lying around, so I figured I'd put it out there.   Please note that some of these dates are postmark dates and some of them are dates by which the forms must be in the Secretary of State's office.

Also, here are two easy voter registration tools.  If you use the first link, you will be counted as someone who registered to vote because of the net neutrality issue, and the Save the Internet coalition will be able to brag about how many voters we have on our side to politicians when trying to convince them to support net neutrality.  If you use the second link, it'll just be a regular voter registration.

Re: Voter Registration Deadlines (3.00 / 0)

Wisconsin has always had same-day voter registration, and did so in the September 5th primary. I'm not aware that that has changed, but I can't say for sure that it hasn't. If you can, register by October 19th, but please don't assume from this that if you are not registered by then, you cannot vote on November 7th.

Vote security? (none / 0)

Amidst the well-deserved GOP implosion, I find myself wondering whether our side has an organized effort to watch the polls and voting machines to make sure that the mounting pro-Dem shift in voter intent will be reflected in official vote counts.  While I'm hoping that their deep crisis will weaken Repub's ability to cheat, I don't think its wise to underestimate them. It's very hard and sometimes very dangerous to predict what a wounded and cornered beast will do.  Better to make sure you're well protected from its claws and fangs.  It is, after all, fighting for its retched life.

This is a real service.  It's AMAZING just how many of my mobile, harried friends jabber all day about politics but end up not voting.

Re: Voter Registration Deadlines (3.00 / 0)

the date for WIsconsin is Oct 18 NOT OCT 19 for postmarked mailing registration

again, as was said earlier there is same day registration

why don't all states have same day registration

Re: Voter Registration Deadlines (none / 0)

MN also has same-day registration.  Sen. Paul Wellstone was a strong champion of this nationally, and offered an amendment to McCain-Feingold that I think would've mandated it nationally.  It failed by about 36-64 in the Senate in March 2001.  (I may be confusing that with the final vote on his amendment to allow states to voluntarily do public financing for federal elections, which failed by a similar margin.)

So there has been an attempt, and most senators are on record voting on the issue.  I agree, there should be same-day nationally, if we even need voter registration at all--North Dakota has none and I question whether the whole concept is antiquated.

Re: Voter Registration Deadlines WA (none / 0)

From the Washington Secretary of State website:

The deadline for registering or transferring your voter registration is 30 days before an election. If you register by mail, your application must be postmarked by the 30-day cutoff or it will not become effective until after the election.

If you are not already registered to vote in Washington and you miss the 30-day deadline, you can register in person at your county elections department until 15 days before the election. Contact your County Auditor for assistance and information.

I believe that if a person does register in the 15 to 30 days before the election in person at the local auditor's office that person is then given a ballot to cast.

Great public service (none / 0)

This is where the real GOTV takes place; most of the non-voters we try to get out on election day have moved, died, or are just too damned ornery to vote no matter what.

Real conversation: "I tole you I ain't votin', an I tole you I ain't votin', and if you come back here a third time, I'm a gonna pitch you off this porch."

Moral: Better to register another Democrat a little more eager to play nicely with others.
