"I go out to Walter Reed quite often and see these brave young soldiers who have served and sacrificed so much. Many of them have lost limbs, as you know. And it's a very sad thing to see. But at the same time it's very uplifting.

John McCain said that while campaigning against Tammy Duckworth, who lost both her legs fighting in Iraq. Knowingly?

Meanwhile, Bush seeks to manipulate the veterans by going after John Kerry's mis-statement today and releasing his statement for Veterans Day a week and a half early. Kerry wanted another shot at the chickenhawks that swift-boated his candidacy, so here it is.

And here's Rahm Emanual's DCCC $3M "closer" for Duckworth:

All the sucking up will not make McCain the preferred choice in the Repub primary. He does not have the street cred of the Dobson voters who will vote another wingnut in the primary.

THREE MILLION DOLLARS? For Rahm's personal pissing contest?

This is now time for reality. What percentage of last minute money of the DCCC's does that Duckworth money amount to?

And the race is STILL an uphill climb. I'm sorry, but there are races like AZ-01, NV-03, Darcy Burner (WA), etc.... running on fumes and arguable have a better chance of not only flipping Democrat and STAYING that way, whereas Duckworth's race will be competitive for the near future just like Bean's.

I think Rahm's exhibiting some ego-getting-in-the-way-of-better judgment stuff here. Wouldn't that three mil be better spent in races that we can flip more likely and more permanently? Novak appears to be a better Democratic strategists lately than Rahm. But, hey, I will be the first to eat crow if he's a genuis on November 8.

The fundraisers in Chicago on Oct 11 went for $11,000 and $27,000. And maybe a few seats at the tables for less than that. Have no idea how close to $3 million might have been raised that night.

The Chicago fundraiser with Clinton brought in $800,000 split 32% for Duckworth and Bean and 36% for the DCCC. Duckworth has raised about $250,000 from small donations in the last couple weeks. I don't mind saying my small efforts blogwhoring the hell of the campaign I'm told has helped. She needs $100,000 to get her Iraq commercial up. Donate here:

Do you know who much Duckworth has sucked out and is sucking out of the NRCC? The Illinois Republican party? The RNC? Lil Petey's multimillion dollar warchest? This will probably be the most expensive House race on both sides this cycle. She's leading in the latest poll 48-47% despite nonstop commercials attacking her in the $$$ Chicago TV market. That's mainly because she has an army of volunteers - most making nada - and a crack staff organizing them.

The RNC flew 80 hill staffers out to doorhang lit for Roskam last weekend because he can't compete with us on the ground. How many hill staffers did they send to AZ-01 and NV-03? I don't have to look it up to know. None.

How many robocalls have been sent to those districts geared to piss indies off by calling them 10 times a day and leaving truncated msgs saying "I have important information for you about Tammy Duckworth?" The RNC is spending big bucks doing that to negate our volunteer phonebanking advantage.

They're even mailing 7"x3"x1" packages labelled "America's starter kit" which contain three little pieces of slander about Duckworth. Do you know how much that costs just to trick people into looking at their junk?

Duckworth is a huge reason Repubs don't have enough money to go around in other races. They'll spend whatever they have to keep Henry Hyde's seat and garcia you ought to be fucking grateful to Tammy for making them spend it in vain. She's gonna win this race and she's gonna be a great congresswoman.

And there are gonna be a lot of other great Democratic congressmen and women who get elected this year because the Repubs didn't have the money or manpower to spare on their races.

you make great points. but it is a sero sum game. WE have spent money there too. My main point is it's going to be very difficult to HOLD that seat in a regular, non-democratic tidal wave year, when we have majority blue districts out there being neglected. that's all.

if she wins, fucking great. but i can reel at least ten seats that are more likely yo remain blue that the DCCC is not playing as hard in. Rahm has a hard-on for Duckworth's seat because he personally recruited her and it's in his neck of the woods.

All that money is designed for Rahm's face to remain egg-free on November 7th.

You don't know what you're talking about. She was recruited by Durbin. In June 2005 she told him she'd agree to run only if he'd get her the money needed to win the primary and the general. That's when Durbin brought in Emanual and got Hillary and Kerry to pony up for the primary.

Instead of spening time against me on here, perhaps you should be out raising money for her, because she's gonna need it and every dollar the DCCC spends on her, others are left high and dry.

IMO, the DCCC spent too much on her when we could have had more candidates for the buck in the western states.

He is spreading it around. Emanual has expanded to 4 tiers of seats the DCCC is funding. Candidates who counted on nothing from the DCCC are getting enough to run commercials on TV because he's raised so much money.

He's actually spent more money on the 3 Philly suburban races than he's spending in Chicagoland. I love Joe Sestak but I can't see how he needs more DCCC cash to beat crazy corrupt Curt Weldon at this point.

Emanual's finally wised up and made an Iraq commercial for Duckworth instead of those dumb "Roskams wants to ban Dr. Suess and Little House on the Prairie books in our schools" and "he's too extreme" ads. They only serve to fire up Roskam's fundy base and the Dr. Suess ad just damaged Tammy's credibility. The Iraq ad will help every Dem in this TV market. If he'd done that a month ago she'd have been up by 10 points for the last month, we wouldn't be having this conversation and I'd be getting a lot more sleep.

If you have a candidate Rahm is making commnercials for and they're not about Iraq or Katrina go to the DCCC website and beg him politely to get his head out of his ass and make 'em Iraq commercials like I did the last two days.

That's my opinion too -- I look at all those people saying "The DCCC isn't spending a dime in my district" and then I look at the ads for Duckworth ignoring her obvious strength -- wounded and decorated Iraq War veteran -- and I think: hey guys, no real loss, the DCCC ads are so bad you might be better off without them. Here's the DCCC, this is their handpicked candidate, and this is the best they can do? Geez. Run on the War, guys: everyone hates it, even in IL-06.

Talking about Bush's mistake(s) is great, but not even having the decency to apologize for such a minor mistake of his own makes him look downright inhuman, like he doesn't have the social skills that most of us learned as mere children. Kerry's response is more than red meat to the base. It's a strong condemnation of the hypocrisy of Bush and the Republican Party.

Everything Kerry said in his response was a true characterization of the colossal failures that make up the record of Bush and the Republican Congress.

Giving Kerry the megaphone when he skewers the Republicans so mercilessly will only help Democrats.

"If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they're crazy. This is the classic G.O.P. playbook. I'm sick and tired of these despicable Republican attacks that always seem to come from those who never can be found to serve in war, but love to attack those who did.

Anyway back to the ad. It is no nonsense. It focuses on one issue and makes Duckworth's opponent seem extreme. I liked it. And people here know I loathe Rahm.

I'm not thtrilled with Rahm's commcercials. The first one, the Dr. Suess ad was stupid. Yeah Roskam wanted to ban that anthology and it did contain a Dr. Suess story, a Martin Luther King story and a Laura Ingalls Wilder story. he told Eric Zorn of the Chi. Trib there were other stories that glorified violence and the occult.

Nobody believes he wanted to ban "the Cat in the Hat" or "Little House on the Prairie" and it just undercut Duckworth's credibility even though she had nothing to do with it.

He shouldn't even be a senator if he cannot even speak in public. I never ever want another person from Massachusetts to get the nom ever again. Not because they are great people (they are and I live here), it's because they haven't been battle tested enough to prevent the mistakes that they other wise would if they had a credible opposition party.

I think our nominee needs to be from a place where they had to have competed for every election they had.

Kerry did have a tough re-election against Bill Weld in 1996. Weld had a very high (over 70%, I believe) approval rating as governor at the time
