You can be socially liberal and still be economically conservative. I don't know if she is, but I'm just noticing that all but one of the votes you list indicate a typical DLC Democrat (the CAFTA vote being the lone exception). That's not a progressive in my book.

Tauscher is a mildly conservative Democrat ranking 137 out of 202 (or below 68% of her fellow House democrats) on her Progressive Punch score.

That out of the way, most of her fellow NDC members have more conservative voting records than Tauscher,  She has a history of saying some bad things at the wrong time.

In my opinion, Tauscher's attitude and mouth make her a loose cannon much worse to have around than real conservative Democrats like Gene Taylor or Charlie Melancon (Melancon is also a member of the NDC but has anyone who saw him go after Bush and the Republicans on Katrina
recognizes), Melancon is no toady or scairedy cat.

Liberal vs Conservative is not the issue.  If that was the issue, most people here would have no problem with Lieberman, since he's actually pretty liberal (with the notable exception being the issue of Iraq).  His problem, like Tauscher's, is not the voting record - it's his constant attacks on Democrats and false "bipartisanship" and "triangulation."  He takes every opportunity to chastise the Democratic base and repeat Republican talking points.  That's Lieberman's problem, and apparently that is now Tauscher's problem, too.

Well...I think it makes their criticism of her extremely valid.

Why in the world would a liberal congressperson blast the "progressives" in the party? I could understand it if she were actually a conservative or moderate Democrat. Or she had to run in a marginal district.

But she's not and she doesn't. So the attacks are simply gratuitous and stupid.

Since California is strongly socially liberal, and Republicans here are socially conservative, we've evolved to have 3 de-facto parties: conservative Republicans, liberal Democrats, and socially liberal / otherwise moderate-conservative Democrats.  Tauscher voted for Bush's first tax cuts and voted for the Iraq war, although she is as socially liberal as just about every other California Democrat.  Ellen Tauscher defeated an incumbent Republican in a swing district in 1996 by spending $1 million of her own money.  Even though redistricting has made her safe since 2002, she still has the same ideology as when she was elected.

If she's attacking other Democrats, it's not because she isn't "embracing her true liberal self" or some such tripe - she's just being obnoxious.  Go ahead and criticize her for that, but it doesn't have a damn thing to do with her ideology.
