NC-05: REPORTING FOR DUTY

Recently, StormBear and LumkpinCharm have been EVERYWHERE with diaries showing in great detail what a fantastic Democratic candidate ROGER SHARPE is for NC-05. There are signs that his race against Virginia Foxx, formerly thought of as "long shot," is now entirely competitive. We from the ground agree.

Likewise, these bloggers (and countless others) have worked hard to awaken the people of our great state and nation to the hideousness of NC-05 Republicans who long ago gave up on things like...democracy. And voting.

Republican State Senate candidate David Blust (handpicked by Madame Foxx):

I don't like college students voting in local elections...

Do you think its any coincidence that...the next day...students turned in 1000+ new voter registrations!?

WE"RE NOT GONNA TAKE IT ANYMORE!

In 1979 the Supreme Court in Symm vs. The United States ruled that students could vote where we live.

But NC-05 Republicans have a pattern of voting like asses, and then trying to keep their constituency from the polls.

In 2000, Virginia Foxx urged the local A.G. to launch a criminal investigation into the ASU freshman seminar program.
Their crime? Registering voters.

After the Republican Watauga County Commissioners lost their seats in 2004 (Even as the county went for Bush), they blamed students and treated us like the flu. They printed bumper stickers saying ASU SHAME ON YOU! Now they've come out as a party against us being able to participate in the democratic process!

Its not just individual nutjobs anymore.

Now its the whole Republican party!

"We as a party (Republicans) don't want students to vote here...You come into town and you don't have any idea about local issues...There's more at stake for you where your parents live."
Republican GOTV director in Watauga County

ASU's student newspaper, The Appalachian, has not traditionally been known to take stands politically.

However, the most recent issue had a SLEW of articles, editorials, and op-eds which RIPPED into Blust and the local Republican Party.

They've messed with the wrong crowd!

My editorial, in the Appalachian talks about how important students are to the community and the economy. I also talked about Blust's failed record as a County Commissioner.

The editorial board came out swinging against these un-American Republicans!

Blust and Foxx's bullshit are now front-page news, and just take a look at what a meaningful opinion page looks like. We need to see that more often.

What WE THE PEOPLE want...

Roger Sharpe is making a stand and we are taking his side! Fifth District Republicans, knowing that they do not represent us in congress, are trying to keep us locked out of the Democratic process. I am voting against Virginia Foxx because I dont want to have to deal with being treated like a terrorist by my congresswoman. But Im also PROUD to support Roger Sharpe - a true patriot.

The Watauga County canvass last weekend was one of the most successful we've ever had. I still haven't met a Republican who is planning to vote for Virginia Foxx. And I still haven't talked to a student who plans to vote for Virginia Foxx, the racist.

Watauga County is ready for battle.
With canvassing, targeted phone-calling, local blogging, and kick-ass democrats, we are SWINGING!

We got just 2 weeks left. PLEASE...GO GET DEMOCRATS TO THE POLLS!!!

Im sick of these fools!
With candidates like Roger Sharpe and Steve Goss we can be proud to bust our butts and go into debt!

GO ROGER GO!!!

ITS GAME TIME!

Wow, there's some stupid Republicans (none / 0)

I know they want to suppress the student vote, but to come right out and say it like that is a rare level of political arrogance.

Go ASU!  Don't concede an inch to these idiots.

Before you win, you have to fight. Come fight along with us at TexasKaos.

Apparently the republicans feel that if they can't (none / 0)

win races fairly, they'll just play dirty!  Wonder how they get that stench out of their clothes?

No matter that patriotism is too often the refuge of scoundrels. Dissent, rebellion, and all-around hell-raising remain the true duty of patriots.

Re: NC-05: REPORTING FOR DUTY (3.00 / 1)

Good for you!  And some complain that young people aren't interested in voting.
Then, when the election is over, show the community that you students are truly interested and involved in the community in which you reside by doing good works collectively and individually in that community. You'll win the hearts of the locals, and learn lessons that you don't get in books and lectures.

Re: students voting (none / 0)

I'd say most students at ASU will live in Boone for longer than a two-year congressional term.
