Santorum Ducking the Issues

Duck Duck Gone - watch our new ad in Pennsylvania calling on Senator Santorum to stop ducking the realities of mercury pollution and global warming. The ad is designed to encourage Pennsylvanians to call Rick Santorum about his stand on these issues. In particular, the ad speaks to the state's 2.3 million hunters and anglers who are growing more concerned about wildlife threats everyday.

National Wildlife Action, an advocacy and grassroots action organization, has produced a 30 second television ad that will be airing around the state.

Don't think these issues can affect the election? Well Senator Santorum will be counting on his conservative base to turn out in droves, many of which include the state's 2.3 million hunters and anglers.

According to a recent survey, 70 percent of Pennsylvania sportsmen say global warming is an urgent problem that needs immediate action, and they want clean energy solutions that create jobs and cut pollution from burning fossil fuels. And, 70 percent strongly support a state plan to cut mercury pollution from power plants 90 percent by 2015.

But Sen. Santorum keeps ducking the issues. He opposes strong regulations on mercury pollution, and he even voted against a Sense of the Senate resolution to pass legislation requiring mandatory cuts in global warming pollution.

Pennsylvania's elected officials and candidates should take note: two-thirds of Pennsylvania sportsmen (66 percent) said they would favor a candidate who supports strong laws and immediate action to address global warming. Just one-quarter (25 percent) said a candidate who only supports voluntary efforts and research would gain their support.

The state's 2.3 million hunters and anglers want to know where their elected officials and candidates stand on cleaning up mercury pollution and finding solutions to global warming.
