Live-blogging the Hearings

(Bumped -- Scott)

Chris is in DC, and he's liveblogging the hearings.  Today there's not that much interesting stuff, just introductions.

Reddhedd has a great round-up of coverage.  Pay special attention to the video segment of this Washington Post article where he endorses the Meese-led Reagan Justice Department.  These guys were extreme freepers.  And Alito said he shared their legal views.

UPDATE: I misunderstood. Apparently Chris is liveblogging the hearings tomorrow and Wednesday and will have a recap later today. Reddhedd at Firedoglake is liveblogging.

The WSJ published the full account of three ministers' mission to bless the congressional hearing room. According to them, God is very interested in the confirmation process.

Chris, if you see Him, put in a good word for me.

Its funny how a sidebar comment can close a deal (none / 0)

You just closed the deal for me in your sidebar comment about the Meese-Reagan era freepers that Alito was so tight with.

Oohh I hate those Meeses to Pieces!!

Listening to the opening statements on the radio (none / 0)

Sen. Dewine is speaking now.  Republican support so far is uniform, as expected.  Of the Democrats, Sen. Kennedy's statement was the most pointed.  Sen. Kohl's statement was fairly restrained.  He cited the case made against Judge Alito, but also cited the case in his favor.  His vote sounds like it might be up for grabs.  He was one of three Democratic votes (along with Leahy and Feingold) for now Justice Roberts.  We'll see.

Dianne Feinstein is doing a good job (none / 0)

for once.  She's painting him as a judicial activist rightwinger.  That's the way to do it.  Force the republicans off of their scripted positions.
