Breaking MyDD News

The poll is finished. Just got the final results ten minutes ago. Sorting the data. Thinking of posts and press releases to write. Amazing stuff. Will begin release tomorrow.

Stay tuned...

No offense but I'm not a fan of this new look.  It will take some adjusting

The value (none / 0)

The value is not necessarily in the "top line" numbers (no matter what they indicate), but in the crosstabulations. That information will help communicate a message.

In a hypothetical instance: A subgroup of respondants indicate NRA membership (ostensibly, strong support for literal interpretation of the 2nd Amendment) and also indicate some type of approval for dubya's expansive view of domestic spying. A directed message to this subgroup might state something along the lines: "If the 4th Amendment is gone, can the 2nd Amendment be far behind?"

I like it, so you must be a traitor.

You're either for the new look, or you're against America.

Re: Breaking MyDD News (none / 0)

This American doesn't like it. The Dalai Lama probably likes it.. Its awkward. And they're trying to change their name to "direct democracy".

If you look carefully at this layout, its designed to put banner advertising in more prominent places.

Its not that cool.

That aside, Kerry's broadside into the Bush Machine today still hasn't made it to a promoted diary. So this site is fading fast for me, just on content. Nobody cares about what font you use, when you're starting a revolution..

I'll look forward... (3.00 / 1)

So this site is fading fast for me, just on content.

I'll look forward to your "goodbye cruel world" diary. You might want to post it during dubya's "State 'O the Union" craptacular just so the rest of us have somewhere to pile on the snark. It'd be greatly appreciated.

Re: Breaking MyDD News (none / 0)

I'm worried if the poll is gonna turn out to be not too kind to our positions if it'll devalue MyDD's and other blogs desire to do further polls.

Re: Late night (none / 0)

I'm sure it's going to be all balloons and banners and confetti and press releases to the traditional media.

Re: Breaking MyDD News (none / 0)

They removed my comments. The first version had the Dalai Lama up in the upper left corner, and Bowers came in and removed my comments about Supporting John Kerry.

Interesting...

FYI (none / 0)

they didn't get removed.  as a TU i can still see them on this thread.  they got zeroed out.  i won't speculate why, but i'm just telling you what happened.

i for one do think that JK finally did something out of conviction, and i recommended the diary about his filibuster.

Re: Breaking MyDD News (none / 0)

This is so exciting. I contributed to the poll fund and now we have the beginnings of My Direct Democracy. For a middle-aged homemaker (yes we still exist) this is exciting (yes my life is boring). Bush and his right wing nuttery is my number one worry for my two children (18 & 20).

Thanks for all you do.

Congrats! (none / 0)

Well, I have to offer my congratulations to Chris and all of the MyDD community! I have to admit, when I heard what the price tag was for getting this poll off the ground, I thought there was no way enough money would be raised. But, I was wrong. You guys all did a great job. I am truly impressed!

Macho Rep (3.00 / 1)

Sure is a macho quote you've got there in your sig.

Recoil!

Heh.

What's it feel like when it turns out there's not a terrorist on the other end of the rifle.

Recoil!

Yep. Feels the same.

Re: Macho Rep (none / 0)

Nice observation Curt.  I suppose you can also ask this question:

What do you feel when you shoot a child?  Recoil.

Re: Macho Rep (none / 0)

Yeah, 'cause our Marines are out there constantly shooting innocents and children. But you guys support the troops, right?

But look, I changed the sig to something I feel is more fitting.

Re: Macho Rep (none / 0)

I dont want to start a flame war, or distract from Chris's Diary.  For the record, I do not believe that Marine snipers target obvious civilians, especially children.  I also dont believe that snipers dont become more engaged in battle than the icy quote implies.  But when reaction to the act of killing another person is reduced to commentary on how the weapon functions, its a fair observation that the same reaction would be illicited whenever the weapon works the same way.  How's this? "What do you feel when you miss an insurgent?"  "Recoil."  Same reaction.

I support our troops very much, and it makes me sick to know that they have been mobilized to invade and occupy a sovereign nation based on lies and propoganda, motivated by greed.  So lets support 'em all and bring 'em home.

"Don't get stuck on stupid" - Lt. Gen. Honore

I like that one alot better. In fact I like it plain and simple.

Of course troops aren't out there constantly shooting innocents and they don't look for that to happen but checkpoint tragedies occur nevertheless. With that in mind I did object to your previous sig. Quotes like that are fine for soldiers to each other in war but in a sig they offend.

At least us sensitive liberals.

Re: Macho Rep (3.00 / 0)

I agree with you Curt 100%.  As an ER MD I have been inches from death and overwhelming personal tragedy maybe even more times than a marine sniper.  The job requires a dispassionate detachment, and I have made comments to colleagues before that could be seen as cold.  If someone asked me what happens when you turn off the life support machines, and I responded "a lower electic bill" (Bu-dum dum) I could see how many people would see that as harsh and dehumanizing.  But people have to see comments like that in context.  If I wasn't able to maintain some professional detachment, I couldnt do my job.

I dont have a real problem with the sniper quote.. What do you feel when you kill a terrorist?  "recoil" (Ba-dum dum)  I do have a problem with taking a quote like that off the battlefield, out of context, and lionizing it as if it were a great philosophy of life.  You are right that attaching that comment as a signature is offensive.

So reptroll, go back to you office or paper-route or whatever job pays your bills, and leave causal comments about death to men and women who have earned the right to make them.

What Poll Are You Talking About... (none / 0)

I've noticed that you or someone is posting things withtout explanation, ignoring the fact that many readers may have missed a post or two and don't know what you're talking about.

For example, the Get the Party Started discussion announcement appeared and I bought the book and then there was nothing for several days and I had to try to remember which blog site I had seen the announcement on......Then it appeared again...And what exactly is meant by discussion...chat..or just people adding comments...it's not clear...You need to do a little more explanation, for best results I think..

I was gone last night, so missed the "discussion" but would like to be filled in on it...that and the poll thing you are so excited about and I don't even know what the poll is about...
