Elizabeth Edwards speech report at DKos

I wanted to plug this report of an Elizabeth Edwards speech in North Carolina, now a recommended diary at DKos.

Edwards is still the 2008 candidate that excites me the most, but he never seems to break the 10-15% barrier even among the activist polls here.  I want someone out there making the moral case against Bush and his whole party.  The naked financial corruption is just the most obvious part of it, and the easiest to sell.  The overall domestic theme of this adminstration is that ordinary people don't matter.  Can we make that case?

Check out Edwards new blog (3.00 / 1)

Total self-link whoring here, since I did work on it, but I'm pretty proud of the work. So if you're interested in JRE, check out his new blog.

Elizabeth preferable to John (3.00 / 1)

One of the biggest mysteries for me was the massive appeal of John Edwards to democratic activists. This guy was one of the worst bystanders during the Iraq war runup. He comes across as a cipher who can mouth whatever patronizing BS he can come up with. He was not very good in debates. He usually had this glassy stare when he spoke with very choreographed looking body language.

And then you had Elizabeth Edwards who would come across as no nonsense, articulate, and very real in interviews on those morning shows and CNN.

I don't know if it's the good looks that attracted all the democratic soccer moms to Edwards, but I am immune to his charms.

Re: Elizabeth preferable to John (none / 0)

I was really taken with his stump speech, as many others were.  A lot of his appeal was simply the issues he discussed -- he was about the only person in the campaign acknowledging that the working poor exist and have problems that government ought to help them with.

Canvassing in New Hampshire, I met more than one person who was leaning toward voting for Bush over Kerry, but was very enthusiastic about Edwards.  This of course made no sense in policy terms, but I conjecture Edwards hit the "cares about people like me" button in a way that Kerry, despite good intentions, did not.

Whether you find him patronizing is a subjective reaction, I think.  I never thought he was, but I can see how you might.

I don't know, but I am getting soft on Warner.  He didn't come out supporting a filibuster.  I think he don't know if he supports a filibuster, but Edwards took a clear stand against Alito and supports a filibuster.  I think I might go with Edwards now, because of the lack of clarity on the part of Warner.

Edwards yesterday gave his version of the SOTU, which gives a good idea of where he is at right now.
