Evening Alito Round-up

Here are some blogs I'm looking at: Check 'em out. Post more links in the comments.

Update (Chris): Something amazing just happened. First, Hatch just jumped into the middle of Feingold's questioning when Feingold was really pushing Alito on Vangaurd and ethics concerns. I believe it was the first time someone has broken into another Senator's questioning, either in these hearings or in the Roberts hearings in September. Interesting that this happened over ethics concerns and not rulings or ideology. The ethics questions really seem to be much more of a threat to Republicans in these hearings.

Next, when the Feingold-Hatch exchange was over, Lindsay Graham went on to say perhaps the most amazing line of the entire hearings:

Sen. Lindsey Graham said he believes Judge Sam Alito when he says he doesn't remember certain parts of his murder boards.

Alito smiled appreciately.

Continued Graham: "And if any of us come before a court and say we can't remember Abramoff, you'll believe us."

"Abramoff who?" queried another Senator.

"Wasn't he the guy in the Bible?" asked a third.

Wow. Just wow.

Update 2: Cornyn just called Alito "Scalito."

Alito and Bork (none / 0)

The true believers wanted a Bork type confrontation.  Instead, they got somebody with, seemimgly half the intellect and none of the conviction of Robert Bork.

Alito's Way is to lie and obfuscate his way around everything while he kisses up to the wingnuts behind the curtains.

Joe Biden (none / 0)

said last November that a filibuster was considerably likelier since he learned about him and had first said that a filibvuster would be unlikely.

It'll be fun to see how he reacts once these hearings progress.

Alito's "Open Mind" (none / 0)

Judge Alito claims he will keep an "open mind" on reproductive rights issues.  Well guess who once claimed the exact same damn thing?  Clarence Thomas during his confirmation hearings.

Re: Abramoff (none / 0)

That exchange needs to be played in a National commercial at least a month before the nov elections.  Play it and then say that the Republicans find corruption a laughing matter.  They support selling government to the highest bidder.  The feel they are entitled to do this without fear of reprisal.

Demand Real Reform.  Vote Democratic.

I didn't know (none / 0)

The interruption of Feingold was comment-worthy.  I hope the traditional media notes it, so at least people who are thinking get a sense that the interruption was to prevent Scalito torpedoing his own nomination as seemed more and more likely under Feingold's examination.

No Sense of Humor (none / 0)

You guys and girls need to get a sense of humor. I'm no Republican, but politcians that can poke fun of themselves are worth respecting.

Re: No Sense of Humor (none / 0)

Sure... If Ted Kennedy comes out and says he is fat, or Gore makes fun of his stiffness, yes absolutely then I think that is funny.  Politicians laughing about a scandal that HASN'T even landed indictments and pretending that alito will let them off if they confirm him?  That is simply in poor taste.  It is the same as Bush doing the Pictures of himself looking for WMDs in the white house during a speech about terrorism and Iraq.  It isn't a funny Topic.

Alito (none / 0)

I'm sorry my offline work prevented me from participating in the conference call today, Chris.

However, after reviewing the excellent links you provided (and thanks for that!), I get the impression that the Alitists are trying to get their boy to simply look like a calm white guy to convey to the majority of tv viewers that nothing's afoot to fret about.

The corporate media spin is that this is merely partisan parties at work, without any mention of the partisan patriots who put the country ahead of ideology in this fight.

Schumer, at least, demonstrated that straight talk, not pontificating verbosely, is the only way to counter the sales tactics of the Alitists.

If there's going to be a filibuster, the Senate has to sense some slippage in public support. And the only way that'll happen is to utilize the Schumer approach - direct, terse, straight talk -  flooding newspaper letters pages and call-in shows, by the likes of all of us non-Alitist folks.
