Alito is Not Qualified

Here is a link to the PDF document from the National Association of Women lawyers that evaluates Alito as "unqualified." Originally, Republicans had planned on calling the President of this orgnaizaiton to testify on behalf on Alito. I wonder if they will still do so now.

Also, Alito is a liar. The whole business about not being able to remember anything about joining the Conerned Alumni for Princeton is just a flat out out lie. If it isn't a lie, then I wonder why he put that he was a member of said organization on his CV in 1985. Even if we assume that he is telling the truth, his inability to remember why, or even if, he joined an organization makes him seem more than a little senile. Is someone with such a poor memory qualified to serve on the Supreme Court? I don't think so.

Concerned about the "Traditional Media" (none / 0)

Chris, while I think you, Armando, Firedoglake and others are doing an excellent job blogging about Alito and how he is not coming off so hot in his confirmation hearing when you delve into the answers he is actually giving, I am concerned that the "traditional media" have simply taken the one sound-bite the admin (or Sen. Graham) coached him on, and are running with that ("Alito promises to keep an 'open mind' on abortion").  Unfortunately, I believe this is all most of the public will get out of today's hearings.  Can you address what could or should be done about this?  How do we get the narrative you are uncovering into the "traditional media"?

(Currently, cbs, abc, msnbc, fox and cnn are all running big bold headlines with the one quote I referenced above).

Re: Concerned ... (none / 0)

I agree.  When I was adjusting my radio this morning to get to NPR to get to the coverage of the hearings I stopped on a right wing station (Alito was talking on it so I assumed that I had made it to NPR) only to hear them talk over and over about his immigrint roots.  Although abortion was not mentioed during the brief time I had this station on, they certainly seemed to be painting him in ways irrelevant to his position.  Of course, its not as though this is any real surprise.

Lies....who cares (none / 0)

The biggest dig at Alito is his dissents and the fact that they go beyond the pale.....some of it makes ditka (legal blabbering) look intelligent.

Judicial tempermant means sating in an opiion, this is the law, these are the facts, this is the legal conclusion.  Alito belongs to the judicial activist group (yes a lot of them are conservatives) who say I hate the law and the precedents and here is the basis I would use to overturn this law....

I think tagging him as a judicial activist with a right wing agenda could garner enough no votes to make every GOP presidential aspirant squirm.

[Personally I can't wait to see the far right's legal philosophy be imprinted on society because  the political backlash will empower liberals for decades to come and the talking heads will all keep blathering how idiotic it is to align yourselves with the extreme religious right and expect mainstream america to be happy]

Re: ScAlito Is Not Qualified (none / 0)

I agree, Chris. ScAlito testified that he doesn't remember being a member of CAP, yet in 1985 at 35 years of age, he cited his proud membership in the group on his federal job application. So, the obvious follow-up question someone should ask is: Did you lie on your federal job application, or are you lying today? ScAlito is a liar.

deal killer (none / 0)

I predict Samuel Alito's disturbing resemblance to Arli$$ will be an insurmountable obstacle to winning over public opinion.  Not fair, but true.

Heck, if the Republicans don't call her (none / 0)

Why don't the Dems do so? They should start off with, "well, the Republicans were going to call you up to say nice things about Sammy, but now we want to hear about how you square that with your org's rating..."

That Nixon character is right about one thing--Biden should STFU about his damned beliefs and use some of his valuable time to go after ScAlito.
