DeLay loss is our gain

Wow, I don't know about your inbox, but following the indictment of DeLay the emails have been filling up the inbox with fundraising requests with a frenzy. I'll just highlight one that's been a blogad candidate here, Christine Cegelis, who is running against a Republican lawyer named Peter Roskam, in the Illinois 6th District. Roskam, who worked for Tom DeLay in 1985-1986, told the Sun Times:
"I think everybody agrees that he's one of the most effective legislators in Washington, D.C.," Roskam said. "Knowing what I know now about what Tom DeLay's been accused of, my attitude would be to support him."
The GOP has annointed Roskam as Henry Hyde's heir apparent, and he'll be another vote for Tom DeLay. The thing is, this CD isn't a longshot for Cegalis, she can win it. In honor of DeLay day, I'll contribute $72 to the Cegalis campaign.

But I'm gonna wait to pay up on that bet with NCDem, as this could only be a temporary step down for DeLay. And did Frist really pocket $6 million from that insider info he used to dump his stock? And he thinks he can be President?!?

Their Culture of Corruption is upon us.

Re: yup (3.00 / 1)

Oh, glad you asked, it was from their fundraising letter highlighting DeLay (which they actually had the foresight to send out last night) saying, "The average donation to the Cegelis campaign in the last fundraising quarter was $72. That's a citizen funded campaign. PACs don't make $72 donations. Corporate interests don't make $72 donations. Citizens do."

Oh, I don't think so.  I want my beer autographed by Jerome, with unpublished bits of his upcoming book used as packing material, and a photograph of him holding the autographed beer for authenticity's sake.

Thank You! (3.00 / 3)

Jerome,

I'm glad you posted on the link between Tom DeLay protege I'm facing in the House race in IL District 6 - Peter Roskam. He's backed by the Republican party machine led by DeLay. I'll be posting a diary a later today with more details about the connections there but I didn't want to wait to thank you for the post and the donation. With the end of quarter looming, we need every donation we can get.

Since I have not heard of any high profile Dem challenging Biggert, I will be sure to come and help in your district.

Find some corruption related to (none / 0)

George Allen and GOP will have no presidential candidates to run in 2008.
The history of the left is a history of purists betraying the progressive movement so that they can feel good about their righteous selves.

Re: Find some corruption related to (none / 0)

Allen will have a tough time as it is considering he's supported Bush and DeLay at every step.

Dead wrong (none / 0)

My sleeper GOP horse is and will remain Mike Huckabee.

He's the first GOPer now distancing himself on the war and the hurricanes from the WH.

That's a very smart move.

And anyone who can run Arkansas can run for President.  It's just that kind of state politically.

Re: Dead wrong (none / 0)

I don't think Huckabee will garner the support of wingnut True Believers who dominate the Southern primaries.  Allen and Brownback are my logical choices, though if I want to be paranoid, despite all denials to the contrary, I can entertain a late Cheney entry to "save the legacy".

I think Giuliani is a mirage and I think too many of the GOP rank-and-file distrust McCain.   And that's the pair that I think would be the strongest against a generic Democrat.

Re: Dead wrong (none / 0)

Yeah I relish Brownback getting the nom.  He can be shredded quite easily. I will just not accept a Kansas President.

If we take everyone out, McCain will get it over Guiliani.  Find McCain dirt as well.

Gee whiz (3.00 / 0)

Roskam was DeLay's apprentice.
Roskam recieved campaign contributions from DeLay's PAC.
Roskam was investigated for ethiccal campaign finance law violations.
So was DeLay.
Now DeLay has been indicted for possible conspiracy.

I wonder if Roskam will repeat that lesson too?

We don't need another Tom DeLay in congress.
