Mobsters Paid By Abramoff and Kidan Arrested for Murder

We've known for quite some time that GOP powerbroker Jack Abramoff was crooked. But paying-mafiosos-to-whack-people crooked? A new round of arrests covered by the Washington Post seems to suggest just that.

Fort Lauderdale police have arrested three men on murder and conspiracy charges in the 2001 gangland-style killing of a South Florida businessman who sold a casino cruise line to Washington lobbyist Jack Abramoff, authorities said today.

Police picked up Anthony Moscatiello, 67, Anthony Ferrari, 48, and James Fiorillo, 28, last night and this morning in connection with the ambush slaying of Konstantinos "Gus" Boulis, who was killed in Fort Lauderdale on Feb. 6, 2001.

An earlier story about the Boulis case had pointed out that Kidan and Abramoff gave $250,000 to Ferrari and Moscatiello, a known mafioso, supposedly for catering services. The Post article points out that there is no evidence of goods or services provided for the payments. Two months after those payments were made however, Boulis was dead.

We can only guess where the Abramoff crime train will make its next stop.

So, Abramoff is not just a thief (none / 0)

he's a murderer. My, my, I wonder what Tom DeLay will have to say for himself. So next time a Democrat is "accused" of having ties to Howard Dean, they can respond, "Oh yeah, well you have ties to Tom DeLay and he has ties to murderers."

Hey, I didn't call Abramoff a murderer. All I said was that he and Kidan gave a quarter of a million dollars to three mafiosi who have since been arrested for murdering Abramoff and Kidan's business rival. Make of those facts what you will.

I'm not suggesting a thing....

Can we keep a lid on this stuff... (none / 0)

...for, say, 12 months or so?  You know, just before the next election?

I think it's better (none / 0)

to have it come out now. First of all, this kind of thing needs lots of digging, because it's likely to be an extensive web with lots of hard-to-spot threads, which will take time to expose. Second, the closer to the election it outs, the easier it is to dismiss as partisan mudslinging. Get it in front of the people now, and then keep the "crooks & liars" drumbeat going -- slowly building in volume, if possible.
Yeah, I'm cynical.

I'd like to get it cleaned up (none / 0)

one of the things I dispair about the republicans is that they use a lot of the proceeds of their corruption as seed money.

So let's clean up the mess, and that is going to take a lot of hard work.

Wonder if these guy know eachother... (none / 0)

I wonder if the mobsters in this Jack A. story know the two who gave money to the BC04 Campaign, per
The Smoking Gun."  Those two ran car dealerships in New York and Florida.  Refresh your memory at http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1008043staluppi1.html if you don't remember.

Next stop, Ohio (3.00 / 0)

With Republicans, there's always more corruption.   Bob Ney is involved in this, as well.

Federal authorities want to know whether an obscure Ohio congressman improperly influenced negotiations in the $147 million SunCruz Casinos deal five years ago as a favor to a politically connected lobbyist and his business partner, according to sources familiar with the investigation.

Rep. Bob Ney, a Republican better known for touting coal shippers in his district, thrust himself into the sensitive sale in March 2000 when he publicly trashed Fort Lauderdale-based SunCruz owner Gus Boulis in Congress.

In the midst of the SunCruz negotiations, Ney received thousands of dollars in campaign contributions from Kidan, Abramoff, Abramoff's wife and Scanlon.

Oh.. oh, that's just not good at all.  No, not good at all... But wait!  Do I hear sleigh bells?  It's Santa!  And he's bringing us a shiny new government!

A boy can dream...

FWIW (none / 0)

The story was the lead on tv in Fort Lauderdale this morning, but no mention of Abramoff and Kidan.

However I found this at Yahoo.

The indictment, returned Aug. 11 by a grand jury in Fort Lauderdale, charges that Abramoff and an associate, 36-year-old New York businessman Adam Kidan, used a fake wire transfer to defraud two lenders out of some $60 million to finance the deal to buy SunCruz from Boulis.
