I realize a few diaries have already talked about RedState user OhSure's comment (supposedly confirmed by good sources) that Rove is to be indicted soon, but here's a little more on the coming indictment from Dissident Voice's Joshua Frank (the link comes courtesy of Come And Take It, a community of Texas left wing bloggers):

Occasionally I get emails from Washington folks who work on the Hill claiming to possess juicy insider digs on our public servants and their corporate paymasters. I usually delete said emails, as I don't want to be responsible for propagating dirty rumors or false information that can't be corroborated. I'd rather let Judith Miller and the New York Times do that. Nonetheless, in the past 24 hours I have been contacted by three separate congressional Democrats in Washington, by email and later phone, who all say the same thing: Karl Rove is about to be indicted.

Joshua Frank also makes note of the RedState comment:

Apparently, I'm not the only one who has been leaked this information either. Over at Redstate, a right-wing Internet blog, one member who calls himself "Ohsure", also claims that "[four] Great sources confirmed" the matter, and later added: "I not only don't do this, I have never done this. But here it is; `Karl Rove will be indicted late this, or early next week.' I'm trusting a source. So either I am made a [sic] into an overzealous horses a**, or..., I have good sources and may be more trusted to get these things right."

It looks like Rove isn't going to be able to weasel out of this. I've been skeptical since the start (as one Kossack put it "I'm afraid to get excited about this like a poor kid is afraid to get excited about Christmas) but this is definitely hopeful news. The Washington buzz is that Rove will be indicted; now let's work on that conviction.

But what about all the speculation that this could unravel something a little higher up? It looks like the White House is seeking some heavy duty cover; namely Jim Sharp. The link, also via Come And Take It, has some exceprts from FindLaw and RawStory explaining the implications of Bush seeking outside counsel and elaborating on Jim Sharp's expertise in covering up GOP "accidents", including his involvement in representing some big players in Iran-Contra.

The ball is rolling, and it will not be stopped.

When FindLaw first started up I had the pleasure of working with them and a few attorneys at establishing their web presence. I told them immediately that I thought their site would far outshine others and that they seemed much more committed to ethics than most directories and forums.

Rove is the mastermind at manipulating the
news cycle - he would start a rumour like this
to take the steam off of an explosive
story and have the editors vet whether
or not they will cover it.

In reality, he's challenging the editors on whether
or not they will put into jeopardy the ad buys
that would be scheduled for the midterms.
They are all wondering if they should finally
step up to the plate; this strategy makes it
more of a corporate decision.

Not really.

Nixon created modern politics. While the specifics of his criminality aren't as gruesome to behold, the pattern of behavior - abuse of power in the hands of the executive, cultural warfare, intimidation of the media, pandering to anti-intellectualism, Southern power base - were Nixonian in their modern incarnation. Without Nixon there wouldn't be a Bush.

Or, to put it yet another way, Nixon was the ARPANET to Bush's WWW.

You have expressed my sentiments. I feel like a kid at Christmas - Will I get the presents that I have been praying for? No one is covering this story and I think it's b/c they are afraid to cross Rove since he has been an anoynomous source for many in the media. Will this case be the start of something bigger? Could this start to expose other cover ups in the administration regarding Iraq? I even heard the words - dare I say them- impeachment being used in a few polls.
Rove - Do not pass go and do not collect $200!

I will believe it when I see it... I think Rove is too well connected.. Like Delay. Even if he is, this thing stops with Rove. He won't turn rat on Bush.. Not when he knows there will be a pardon at the end of 2008 if he keeps his mouth shut.

Absolutely, it looks to me like we are being had.

Rove gets off.

Lots of excitement, media circus takes away from the DSM's and Iraq, sheeple get a good show. No one mentions the dead guys who paid the ultimate price for being part of a spy network that was outed by their own administration.

Wussiecrats get to tell stories to their grand kids about how we almost got 'em. ALMOST.

Lame duck goes on to do whatever he pleases, pardons handed out, internet petitions circulate, nothing changes.

My husband and I have been puzzling this through after reading all of the available material. We are convinced--Judith Miller is part of the cover-up, Rove is her source--she is Novak's.

Crime of the Century Revealed:

Scene 1:
Novak spilled the beans first and fingered Miller to the grand jury. Novak has said that his source was not a political partisan.

Scene 2:
Rove and Libby signed a document that released reporters from protecting their identity.

Rove told the grand jury saying that he got the story from the media after it had been leaked and then talked to the media to promote the story only after it had been printed.

Scene 3: Time releases documents
Rove's lawyer said that Cooper called Rove to interview him after he learned of Plame's identity.

Scene 3:
Cooper said he got a surprise call before his hearing releasing him from his agreement from keeping that source confidential. It was Miller--his source.

Fitzgerald has said Miller's source had already released her. Remember Rove had released his contacts from confidentiality.

Curtain Falls:
Judith Miller is a co-conspirator in the leak and the cover up. Rove perjured himself to the grand jury because he was the original source, "knowingly" or not.

Not sure I agree with this.

I think Cooper and Miller had separate sources. Novak could have gotten his information from Miller but I tend to think it could have been "Jeff Gannon" who leaked to Novak. Why is that important?

Because if Libby spoke to Miller, who never wrote any article, Rove would have no means to hear it from the media. If Rove spoke to Miller, and Libby spoke to Cooper, Rove would be "lying with the truth". He could have told Miller he knew about Plame, when in fact he had been informed by Miller when being contacted for the story.

But Novak gets it from person number 3...Jeff Gannon or otherwise...because unless Cooper and Miller reveal their sources...Gannon could say that both Libby and Rove told him who was Plame was. The prosecutor has no idea who leaked to whom...and needs someone to crack...which unless Miller or Cooper reveal their sources can't happen.

But the charge Fitzgerald will issue is a conspiracy one between Libby and Rove recognizing he can't prove Bush and Cheney are behind it, but ultimately that both Rove and Libby were instructed to leak the name. There's simply not the evidence to finger whoever told Libby and Rove Plame's identity (unless it was George Tenet or something) but there's probably enough rope for a conspiracy charge to stick.

Will everyone finally ante up and admit Karen Hughes did a hell of a lot more for Bush?

While Rove did a good job bringing the crazies to the table, he did nothing compared to how Karen Hughes made sure the middle would like Bush.

Rove's manipulation of the media wouldn't have meant squat if Bush weren't groomed by Hughes to be an acceptable president for a worrying American public.

For all the Swifties and John McCain's negro bastard children, a decent portion of the public still had to find Bush acceptable enough. For all the dislike of Gore and Kerry, they still had to dislike Bush less.

Karl Rove did nothing in that department -- quite the opposite, indeed.

Likewise, Rove has extended the GOP too damned far. The upcoming Supreme Court fight is going to fracture the GOP no matter what. Either moderates are going to finally see how batshit crazy their party is, or the wingers will be betrayed.

The GOP coalition simply cannot survive this intact. Someone has to pay.

Rove is going to be remembered as a Pyrrhic leader.

Rove and Bush will not be treated nicely. Nor, for that matter, will Rick Perry. Cornyn and Hutchinson will be remembered as lightweights and coattail riders.

No one first remembers Nixon as a guy who won one of the greatest landslide victories ever.

Rove will go down as the man who bet too heavy on narrow victories, and defrauded his party of a potential permanent majority.

When history is done with Bush and Rove, I don't think GOPers will be kind. They will be treated as shiteaters and opportunists who exploited the party and never delivered in the real fight of the culture wars.

I'm worried. I smell a Rove turn about. I believe that this is the beginning of a Rove inspired campaign that will suck us in with hope and then we get bashed with it (accusations) when the 'real' culprit (spelled: fallguy) is revealed.

It has happened before and I think it is happening again.

Remember the truth means nothing to Rove. Only his goal (his survival) is important. If the waters are muddied up enough, he walks, and gets to beat up on the Dems while he is at it. (dutifully reported by the Conservative Mainstream Media, of course.)

It's come to this.

Our press defends treason.

The party of the president defends treason.

Sickest of all: they try to use the bill of rights to defend treason.

Even the most mind washed of the sheeple has a dim glimmer of what this all means: Treason at the highest levels. But the media will wash away the anger with apathy. I have already seen articles that basically say "where is the crime?" They will muddy the waters, befuddle the sheeple with strong words about the bill of rights, omit the part about anybody being hurt...and defend treason to the last and last.

In all likelihood they will be effective.

I, like most of my countrymen, expect this treason to go unpunished, the administration to weather the storm, the wussiecrats to drop the ball, some technicality used to get them all off. Rove will go on to play golf and perhaps sign a lucrative book deal or two, host a cable program or radio talk show, chuckle while he cashes the checks.

This is what I have come to expect and I believe there are millions more like me, it has come to this in our great nation, which makes me (and my countrymen) as much a part of the problem as the wussiecrats and republicons I have so come to deplore.
