Action Alert: We've got Dean's back

Update [2005-6-10 12:24:14 by Hausfrau]: 117 donors, $3,026.89 and one donor told me that she heard the Dean Scream on MSNBC yesterday so she donated the "scream donation" of $30.01. I am also working on getting the bat. (cross-posted at Booman Tribune and at Daily Kos)

I read a diary yesterday on Booman Tribune by Susan Hu Three Top Dem Fundraisers Resign over Dean.

I also read another diary on Daily Kos by Bob Johnson titled Beltway Dem insiders whine, 'Dean stole our Golden Goose!' I don't know about you but I was furious.  I watched Wolf Blitzer in horror on Sunday night and I wanted to smack Wolf and his guests upside the head when they were treating Dean with such contempt.  For me, it was personal, I felt that they were treating me with contempt.  I want them to take notice and know that we are real people and that is whom Dean represents.

I was getting ready to head for the fridge to try to forget my anger after I read SusanHu's diary but decided to do something different.  With a little help from my fellow Kossacks, I was able to set up a webpage on the DNC called We've got Dean's back." Within minutes, SusanHu contacted Howie Martin of http://howieinseattle.blogspot.com/ and http://www.seattlefordean.com/ and Howie helped cross-post the link on these and other blogs.

I am so grateful to SusanHu and Howie Martin for helping me with this campaign.  In less than 24 hours, the  "We've got Dean's back" DNC website received $660.16.  Not bad, but we need to do more.  Here is my suggestion:

1.    We need to choose a day of the week where we all make contributions to the website.  I was thinking Friday because that is usually a day when most people receive their paycheck.  I think it's symbolic because most people live off of their paycheck and have to work for it.

2.    Make a contribution on that Friday if Dean get's attacked by the media, Republicans or people that are democratic in name only (eg. Joe Lieberman, Joe Biden, etc.).  I can write up a summary diary every Friday here on MyDD and cross-post it to Booman Tribune and to Daily Kos of the attacks that were made that week.

3.     Have everybody contribute a small dollar amount with a penny.  I suggested 5.01 or 10.01 but found out that the DNC only accepts a minimum contribution of 10.00.  I also found out that they don't have paypal but I have already written the DNC and requested that they set up a paypal account.

4.    If any station airs the Dean Scream, we can do one or two things: a. either make an immediate contribution of 10.01 or make a contribution of 30.01 on Friday.

5.    Please send me an email and let me know what you sacrificed for your contribution.  Did you give up your Friday night Pizza?  Did you give up your weekend 12 pack?   Let me know.

I really don't want to break all of your backs on this but I think if we hit hard, the media and the republicans will take notice and hold back on their Dean attacks.  I would like to consider this a working diary.  Please feel free to offer suggestions on how to make this campaign successful.  I will update and revise this diary as they come in. Do you want to donate? Go to We've got Dean's back."

Update! (none / 0)

We've got Dean's back has now raised $721.22 with 28 donors.  Do you want to keep Dean as the head of the DNC and have him build up the party from the ground up or would you prefer McAuliffe traveling around New York and the beltway yucking it up with the fat cats?  You decide!

Excellent! (3.00 / 2)

I call the public backstabbers "FOX Democrats".

You can tell them by their exhibiting three or more of the following traits:

  1. Their obsessive need to be in front of a TV camera, preferably on Rupert Murdoch's network.  (Biden, Traficant, Miller, Estrich, Lieberman, Stephanopoulous, Dick Morris, etc.)

  2. Their willingness to backstab their allies publicly to further their own careers.  (See #1.)

  3. Past or present scandal that threatens their careers/bank accounts sufficiently so as to make selling out an attractive option (Biden = Plagiarism, Richardson = Los Alamos Scandal, Dick Morris = Toesucking, Traficant = Everything)

  4. Past or present incompetence that threatens them á la #3  (Stephanopoulous = Fired as Clinton's press guy, got revenge with book and ABC-TV gig; Estrich = Shunned by sane Democrats after her horrific butchering of 1988 Dukakis campaign; now goes on FOX to give out bad advice to Democrats)

  5. A feeling of jealousy/envy towards the figure or figures being attacked. (Biden to Clinton and Dean, Lieberman to Clinton, Gore, Dean, Kerry, etc.)

There you go.

Re: Excellent! (none / 0)

Joe Biden is a statesman, Lieberman was instrumental in intelligence reform, Richardson was
one of New Mexicos greats, and did a lot of
good for us in the international community.

Nobody 'attacked' anyone and nobody is
'defending' anyone.

The entire premise of your post is, I take
it, that we, as the electorate should
dumbly react whenever Dean makes a misstatement.

The point of the discussion should be
to remove the influence of yellow
journalism at this point. This includes,
even - I daresay - the fact that Tony Blair
is here in Washington DC, and nobody
from the national press seems to have
the nerve to run a story on
the downing street memorandum.

Are we a nation whose eyes are blinded
to the truth? Do we have to 'cover
dean's back' even at the cost of
overlooking treason .

However much we all love Dean
(after all, he's a doctor and we
all need a dose of the truth bluntly
spoken sometimes .. "maam you're
going to have to have that removed." )
I despise the society
which perpetuates this "activism
is an ATM machine" mentality that
allowed Bush to be re-elected..

Fear of money... (3.00 / 1)

Activism is this point, is an ATM machine.

While most of us tap away with endless drivel that nobody bothers to read, the single most positive statement anyone can make....the one which will have the most impact, and makes the biggest impression is putting one's money where one's mouth is.

And for all these selfserving scribes chiming in on what is happening to Dean, playing "wudda, cudda, shudda" games, the best thing people committed to bringing our party back to power is to show a little character and pay one's dues.

The rest is just loose talk...

I just donated (3.00 / 1)

and for some reason my security alert wouldn't let me send you the email telling you I donated 50.01...and I would love to be updated on your progress.

Good luck on this worthy endeavor!

Thank you so much for donating.  I am going to update the diary every one to two hours to show the progress.  I am getting a lot of donors but very few people are sending me emails.  NOW I know why.  Thank you for telling me.

I posted the diary and I will put the link here and at the top of this diary.

Here is the link and please give it a recommend.  The diary is sinking fast because of all the pie fighting.

We've got Deans back (3.00 / 2)

Didn't Democrats just appoint Dean as chairman?  What did they think was going to happen when he got that job--be Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm?I say you go Howard and keep that tough talk coming.  Its about time somebody takes the kid gloves off and stops being so polite to the opposition.  craftypookie

Re: We've got Deans back-Why? (none / 0)

Why is it when the party votes for Kerry over Dean that is some inside conspiracy.

But when the insiders vote for Dean that is the party's voice??

I am FOR democracy and AGAINST DEANIACISM taking over to project a minority view.

It's not the media and republicants (3.00 / 1)

that we need to be worried about. It is those so-called democrats that are more concerned about "their" golden goose being stolen that are a potential problem for us. The republicants will say bad things about Dean and us regardless of anything we do. Matter of fact, the more we do the worse their words will become. The media will play along and enjoy abusing the (non) story. They will also completely ignore anything we do.

It is any in-house democrats that are angling to damage us via damaging Howard Dean that we need to be taking action against. It is them that need to be marginalized and beaten into shutting up and licking their wounds in a corner.

We'll have no more of these people thank you very much.

No kidding.  Here we go again.  Lets stick together and make a united front instead of all this bickering.  I bet the republicans love seeing this. craftypookie

Re: It's not the media and republicants (none / 0)

Again - although they are rich, well-organized and mean, the Republicans are not THAT smart, THAT rich, THAT well-organized, or even THAT mean.

The so-called Opposition Party is and has been THAT WEAK. With moderately well led opposition, the depredations of the last years would not have taken place.

The NEW REPUBLIC's IDIOCY (none / 0)

The new Republic has had a couple of articles which berate Howard Dean in blunt terms. They refer to his "idiocy" in the title of one topic. Then they talk about how the same thing in another where he is supposedly needs a talking down to. They mildly recommend against the democrats complaining about Dean in public, but act like what Dean did is the dumbest thing on earth.

I am sending those assholes why they dont write articles using labels such as  the idiocy of Gingrich, the crookedness of Delay. I will also challenge them why they never used similar or harsher terms in personally attacking individual republicans when a  lot of them indluged in their own brand of reckless personal attacks on the Clintons and even on Howard Dean in recent years. No one at TNR said Bush was a moron for cursing out a NYT reporter with a live mike. No one criticized Gingrich in such personal terms when he was shooting his mouth off in the 90s. And the kind of events Howard has been talking at are for the base who don't mind such talk. It's not like Howard Dean made such statements at the convention in front of a national audience. A LOT of republicans have made worse statements about liberals at their conservative meet and greets.

by Pravin on Wed Jun 08, 2005 at 02:30:59 PM EST

Re: The NEW REPUBLIC's IDIOCY (none / 0)

TNR is your basic DLC hack rag. They run the occasional good article to trick liberals into thinking they are center left. Andrew Sullivan is a former TNR Editor.

Dean: Close Abramoff Ties Disqualify Ethics Committee Chair

New Report from the NY Times

Washington, DC - DNC Chairman Howard Dean called on House Ethics Committee Chair Doc Hastings (R-WA) to recuse himself from the House Ethics Committee investigation of Republican leader Tom DeLay's improper relationship with super lobbyist Jack Abramoff - given the chairman's recently revealed close relationship with the scandal-plagued Washington insider.

Today, the New York Times reported that Jack Abramoff used his close relationship with Chairman Hastings as a selling point for his corporate clients. And during a Congressional debate over fair labor standards, Chairman Hastings carried the water for Abramoff's sweatshop clients.

Given these revelations about the Ethics Committee chairman's relationship with the ethically-challenged lobbyist, Dean called on Rep. Hastings to recuse himself from the committee's investigation into DeLay and his relationship with Abramoff:

(go read the rest. I don't recall Terry McAuliffe getting this kind of media attention.)

Go Howard!

The Dean Strategy (3.00 / 1)

Its very simple really.  Assuming Dean is weighing his words, a new coalition is being formed.  The "White Christians" can constitute the Republican Party, but we get to form a coalition of the remaining segmants of the population.  Clearly Dean has a plan for taking back the country.
