Tuesday Afternoon Online Activism

Lots of action alerts to tell you about today. First, I would like to mention Drinking Liberally, which meets in Philadelphia tonight (6-9 at the Ten Stone, 21st and South). I plan on attending. There are usually a few other bloggers there as well, including Atrios, Jim from Rittenhouse Review, and Richard from All Spin Zone.

In the diaries, MurshedZ offers an action alert about election reform in Connecticut.

Also in the diaries, Kevin22262 has an action alert about the Downing Street Memo.

Also, Renee in Ohio offers information about DemFest.

Finally, if you live in Texas, visit Come and Take It, a new Texas blog ring formed to document and fight the extremism of the Texas Republican Party.

Pick something and take action. As we say at BlogPac:

"Writing a blog post is not enough. Reading a blog post is not enough. Commenting on a blog is not enough. The next step requires doing something.
Take the next step.

Update: If the MSM picks up on this, and I see no reason why they shouldn't since it is right down their alley, Bush's approval will drop below 40 in the time it takes for a nut to flap its wings:

I want you to imagine the squeals of outrage we would have heard if, back in the 1990s, President Clinton spoke to a Democratic congressional fund-raising dinner attended by a porn star and a pornographer.

But the "family values" Republicans are mute about just such an event scheduled for next week – involving not Clinton, but President Bush.

Last week, Carl Forti, communications director for the National Republican Congressional Committee, explained to WND that self-described pornographer Mark Kulkis and his date, porn star Mary Carey, will be attending the two-day event, "The 2005 President's Dinner and Salute to Freedom," next Monday and Tuesday because their money is just as good as anyone else's.

Americablog has links to the family values porn sites in question, which I will not post here. You also might want to consider emailing this story to everyone on your personal list despending on their ability to handle this sort of thing. If you are feeling really active, email everyone on this list.

Nah (none / 0)

People like porn.  It won't affect Bush's popularity much.

(Besides, it's not like Dems don't do similiar things.  I believe there was a minor scandal awhile back when Loretta Sanchez (D-CA) held a fundraising thing at the Playboy mansion.)

man alive (none / 0)

This is what I call "Swaggart-class" hypocrisy.

But what bothers me is so many people in so many states just won't notice.

There really is something wrong with Kansas.

and Mississippi
and Tennessee
and Alabama
and.....

For those of you who don't know... (none / 0)

Drinking Liberally is a national organization, with 83 events in 35 cities + DC (hell- there are 4 in Texas). If there's not a drinking liberally chapter in your town- start one! It's a great way to network and get a feel for what's going on in your local activist/blogger world. It's also a great place to lift your spirits if the political climate gets you down!

I took action yesterday (3.00 / 0)

I was very upset when I saw Howard Dean get bashed in the media last weekend so I set up an account on the DNC website and started a "We've got Dean's back" campaign.  SusanHu at Booman Tribune gave me some help in getting the word out.

I had 20 people contribute $480.14 in less than 24 hours. I know it isn't much but it's better than nothing. Instead of getting mad, do something!
