Tom Delay is Going Down no thanks to us...

I just wanted to make that quick observation... It looks like Tom Delay's going bye-bye the traditional way... Karl Rove is pulling a Trent Lott on his ass... and the Democratic blogs are pretty much staying mute. It's a fun, fun time right now watching the downward spiral of Delay. I actually think we'd do better with Delay as the majority leader in 06. maybe that's what kosers and mydders are thinking too... [update] I've decided to update this diary with an alternate version based on the alternate world of navel-gazing bloggers... TOM DELAY IS GOING DOWN, THANKS TO US... MYDD AND DAILY KOS WERE ENTIRELY RESPONSIBLE. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH NEWSPAPER REPORTERS ACTUALLY DOING THEIR JOB. IT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH TOM DELAY MISUNDERSTANDING PUBLIC SENTIMENT TOWARDS TERRY SCHIAVO. THE BLOGS PUSHED AND PUSHED AND PUSHED, AND FINALLY THE STOOGE MEDIA HAD TO TAKE NOTICE AND DO SOMETHING... Is that what should have been written? Seriously? Seriously? I wasn't criticizing MyDD for not pounding this home, I was merely making an OBSERVATION that, even despite the fact that "we" aren't pushing this extremely hard, Delay's getting HAMMERED... and it's fun to watch. Sometimes, it's o.k. to sit on the sidelines and watch the game. The current game is a very good one, and it's O.K. to sit on the sidelines sometimes and cheer for our home team. Yelling out to everyone, "HEY! WE WON THIS GAME BECAUSE OF ME!" just makes your fellow teammates annoyed. JEEZ!

That Delay is on barrowed time, but most Democrats are stering clear of him, becasue they do not wish to go down with him.

Come on... MYDD hasn't had any front-page articles sliming Delay since last Wednesday... (associating Shays with Delay today doesn't count). and he's been in a shit-pot full of hot water since then... I repeat, no thanks to the proverbial "us". My point was, he's done this himself, and this is not a story being framed and pushed by the Democratic blogs as have scandals-past. You aren't pushing it. And you (plural) certainly haven't written "hundreds" "dozens" or even "tens" of articles pushing for his ouster recently. Even Drudge (ugh) is devoting 15-20% of his story-space on this issue... but not the Democratic blogs. This one... "we" can't take credit for. And I repeat... it's nice to see this asshole begin to implode... even without "our" help.

Drudge is nothing but a Rovian stoodge. I don't see any wavering of the backbench in the House (Shays is obsolete and in cya mode).

Besides, most of us want DeLay around for '06.

There's a Rove-DeLay match heating up (as you suggest)... My bet's on Rove. And... the fact that most of US want DeLay around for '06 makes me even more certain that he's a gonner, and soon.

I think that betting Delay gets ousted before Rove would be a very good bet for me. The man's about to get Trent Lotted. I suggest one bottle of Chimay blue trappist ale (approximate value 9 dollars) as the bet... I'll bet I get to collect before my baby's due.

Have you googled "hammer DeLay"? There are at least three or four sites that are devoted to nothing else. We hammer DeLay mercilessly at every opportunity.

If you want to criticize somebody for going easy on DeLay, you might want to address your criticism to the DLC and the Democratic party.

As of today, how many Democrats have criticized DeLay in a public forum like a major daily newspaper on even on cable? Why is it always the netroots job to carry water for the DLC? Is there anything the DLC is competant and capable of doing?

Besides using the grass/netroots for an ATM machine. That's one thing they've got down pat. What else are they good for besides helping Bush pass legislation on bankruptcy, class action lawsuit restrictions and drilling in ANWR?

Uh...because "Scandal Man" on the front page of the Democratic National Committee's web site and the "scandal man" ads to the left of your screen (on MyDD) are, and the take-no-prisoners attitude from the DNC as of late is somehow going easy on DeLay?

Don't be such a knee-jerk wacko, Wacko... I wasn't criticising the blogs, I was merely expressing mild amusement that DeLay's going down despite the fact that the major blogs aren't hammering it home.

Christ... Howard Dean's at the helm of the DNC, The DNC is putting out really hard-hitting ads, op-eds, and t.v. interviews, and high-profile Democratic politicians are hammering Delay mercilessly... and you still can't tell the difference between the DLC and the DNC.

Where are they hammering DeLay mercilessly? I don't watch cable, I haven't seen any ads here in California and I've seen very little criticism in the major daily newspapers.

Last Wednesday I issued the Buddah Dollars Challenge hoping that ten Democrats would publically criticize either Bush on Social Security or DeLay.

Where is all of this criticism hiding? Where did the op-eds by high profile Dems run? I was looking for it on Thursday and Friday.

By Friday I was only up to $50 and that was giving credit to Hillary for another issue.

Here's a comment where I was looking for Democratic criticism of DeLay late Friday.

My complaint is that the criticism has been email and web based. I haven't seen hardly any criticism that would reach the general public. That's the problem.

I went ahead and donated $100 to BlogPac, but I'd love to see all this criticism. I don't even know what you mean by the difference between the DLC and DNC. What are you referring to there?

DeLay--Should he stay or should he go? (none / 0)

I think that the DNC should voice strong opposition to DeLay's unorthodox and unethical tactics. I would like to see a strongly worded statement condemning DeLay suggesting that he is not worthy to be in this leadership role. However, .....if he would continue to stay in power, I think it will start an unraveling of the GOP leadership. If we let all the charges, crimes, and incidents come out, it could provide great fodder for the next election. Remember the GOP promised moral leadership--is Mr. DeLay what they promised?

DNC Scandal Man Page (none / 0)

The DNC has a page up on their web site titled "Scandal Man" that goes into all of DeLay's troubles. Been there for about a week.

The DNC is laying out the facts on DeLay and is not being at all subtle about it. But since Howard Dean himself isn't getting any network face time criticizing DeLay their effort seems to be flying under the radar.

I'm not sure we can take all that much credit. I think it was mostly DeLay and the newspaper reports on his Russian trip. That's what seemed to finally break the dam.

DeLay will survive (none / 0)

Too many people in the House owe their asses to him. Hastert seems to be genuinely loyal.

DeLay has enough guys on his side that if things come to a vote, he can bring it to an impasse favoring his survival. Also, DeLay is a piss and vineagar guy who genuinely believes people are out get him. Like Nixon, he will wait until the truth is staring him directly in the eyes.

And the GOP really wants to avoid looking like they carried the Dems water for them. They already feel horrible because Harry Reid & Co have done more in a few months with fewer votes than Daschle did in four years.

If DeLay doesn't go on his own (which seems unlikely given who and what he is) this will have to wait until the Texas Dems get in position to strike.

The Dems in Texas are really biding their time. Until they have every witness zipped up, they won't go after DeLay. They're clearly vectoring for 2006 or even later.

No one wants to be the guy who screwed this one up.
