Sell out (3.00 / 2)

Why do you continually side with Senators who pass bills that clearly hurt Pennsylvania? Why do you dislike Pennsylvania?

Why do you show such disdain for the working men and women of your state?

Do you think it was wrong to have the state pay for your children's tuition, when neither they nor you live in the state?

Does the fact that you're name is now synonymous with anal sex bother you or does it get you all hot and bothered?

At what point in your life did you lose your soul? Did it happen all at once, or was their a slow disintegration over time?

Social Security: (none / 0)

Senator Santorum you have said many times in the past that you believe the social security age should be atleast 70 and probably older.  Now is the reason you support private accounts because you believe that that privatization would ensure that the social security age be into the 70s in the near future?

Life Begins When? (3.00 / 4)

Santorum has an inconsistent position on abortion. He wants to make Catholics happy by declaring life begins at conception but he doesn't want to anger women by making no exceptions.

Unfortunately, if life begins at conception then it is murder to terminate a fertilized egg. How can an exception be made just because that egg was fertilized by a rapist? It isn't the "child's" fault it's father used force or was related to the mother.

So my question is:

Senator Santorum,

In a written response to the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference in 2000, you indicate that you would provide legal protection for fertilized eggs from the moment of conception with exceptions for the life of the mother, rape, and incest.

My question is that if you truly believe that abortion is murder from the moment of conception then how can you justify what you must believe is murder on the basis of the way in which that egg was conceived? Do you truly believe it is murder to kill a fertilized egg and, if yes, aren't you contradicting yourself by making exceptions?

And if killing a fertilized egg is murder, how can you support the continued existence of fertility clinics?

Fertility Clinics (3.00 / 1)

Excellent corollary!

It may not have been apparent, but personally, I do not believe it is wrong to terminate fertilized eggs. My goal is to split off those on the far right who take that position. They can't be compromised with on the abortion question and would find offense with any effort that includes a woman's right to choose.

If we can diminish the influence of the life begins at conception crowd then we can work on pulling to our side those right-to-lifers who are just reacting to killing "unborn children". That's why I deliberately refer to "fertilized eggs" instead of the more loaded term preferred by the right wing.

Democrats don't want to kill unborn babies either. But we are believers that for a single-cell, or a brainless fetus there is no crime in terminating a pregnancy. That decision should be between a woman, her doctor, and her God. It gets harder to draw a line the closer a fetus gets to birth and that's where the controversy should be shifted. The Democratic position on abortion becomes much less controversial if we can manage to make clear that the true zealots are the people who would intrude in a womans body and health to save a single cell.

Sorry if this is off-topic but this is a huge issue for Democrats and I have a hard time shutting up once the issue gets raised.

Re: Fertility Clinics (none / 0)

Great paragraph!  I am going to save this one.  Did you make this up?  I would only add to, "health to save a single cell", that it is a single cell and the early mass of brainless cells as you said earlier; otherwise, you will be dealing only with birth control and not early stage abortions!

Limited Government? (3.00 / 3)

Senator Santorum,

When I watched the tape of your February 17, 2005 speech to the attendees of the CPAC meeting, you told the audience in response to a question that the government should make it harder for adults to get out of a marriage.

Vice President Cheney told the audience during his speech at the same event that conservatives believe in limited government. You have made that claim yourself before.

Please explain how a Republican government that would expand government regulation of marriage is a limited government.

We have a problem (2.00 / 0)

I notice that more than half of the questions deal with homosexuality or abortion or are utterly frivolous and intended to produce nothing more than a cheap gotcha moment at best.

Some of these questions are decent--I especially like the NAFTA one by Painter2004--but most of y'all seem intent on launching questions that seem as equally wasteful of oxygen as anything Jeff Gannon/Guckert ever asked at the White House.

I don't know enough about Pennsylvania politics or the state economy, but I know enough about politics in general to know that we seek a question whose answer may divide Santorum from some of the people who voted for him last time.

As funny as Dan Savage's use of the santorum may be, talking about it in front of hypothetical TV cameras is juvenile at best and postively Ann Coulter-ish at worst.  It's that sort of whininess that really kills the cause of liberalism because middle America just won't put up with that crap.

Senator, considering capping malpractice awards, (none / 0)

are you a hypocrite there as well?

link

U.S. Senator Rick Santorum, R-Pa.
As a United States Senator, Rick Santorum has repeatedly supported limits on consumers' rights to seek compensation in the courts. In 1994, Santorum sponsored the Comprehensive Family Health Access and Savings Act that would have capped non-economic damages at $250,000. In a 1995 floor speech supporting damages caps, Santorum said, "We have a much too costly legal system. It is one that makes us uncompetitive and inefficient, and one that is not fair to society as a whole. While we may have people, individuals, who hit the jackpot and win the lottery in some cases, that is not exactly what our legal system should be designed to do."

But the same rhetoric does not seem to apply to Senator Santorum. In December 1999 Santorum supported his wife's medical malpractice lawsuit against her chiropractor for $500,000. At trial, the Senator testified that his wife should be compensated for the pain and suffering caused by a botched spine adjustment, claiming that she had to "treat her back gingerly" and could no longer accompany him on the campaign trail. After the verdict, Santorum refused to answer phone calls asking what impact the case had on his views of "tort reform." According to his spokesman Robert Traynham, "Senator Santorum is of the belief that the verdict decided upon by the jury during last week's court case of his wife is strictly a private matter. The legislative positions that Senator Santorum has taken on tort reform and health care have been consistent with the case involving Mrs. Santorum." In January 2000, a judge set aside the $350,000 verdict, deeming it excessive, and offered a reduced award of $175,000 or a new trial on damages only

Follow up statement:
I say I believe that Americans will do just about any job if it pays a living wage.

Now this question I think would really hurt him showing him being for illegal immigration to speed up the American workers race to the bottom.  This would definitly cost him some points in polls, hey who knows people that voted for him will say "I feel betrayed,"  Also I think free trade, worker's rights issues and social security are winning issues, as well as Santorum's moral bankruptness.

Religious Beliefs (none / 0)

Dear Senator Santorum-

Since you are a Catholic and arrive at many of your public positions based on your faith, and since the Bush administation has made religion a matter of open discussion, I would like to clear up a few points about your  beliefs.

Do you believe, that the Catholic Church is the one true church and that all other religions are false?
Do you believe that those that don't believe in Jesus Christ are doomed to hell?
Do you believe that when you take communion you are eating the actual body and drinking the actual blood of Jesus?
Do you believe that a virgin can give birth?

If the answer to any of the above questions is no, then how do you reconcile going against the teachings of your religion?

The children? (none / 0)

Senator Santorum,
Do you believe that every mother who suffers a miscarriage should bring the fetus home for the children to see, before the funeral.

What age where your children when you did this?
