Some HUGE (small) wins in my home county in Ohio

The following is also cross-posted at my newly re-opened blog, but I have added some commentary for the benefit of those not locally connected to my blog.

Most people across the state and across the country are focusing on the major races and have been opining on the meaning behind wins and losses.  Yes, Tim Kaine defeated Jerry Kilgore and handed Bush a huge loss because Bush tried to push a statistical tie into a GOP win (which backfired into a nearly double-digit loss).  Yes, RON lost big on all four amendments here in Ohio.  Yes, Ahnold got his ass handed to him and now the Republicans are blaming him for the Caleeforneea losses.

My apologies, but to read the linked articles, free registration is required.

Incumbents bear brunt of voter backlash

- 21 incumbents were ousted in Stark County, most of them Republicans.  The strongest GOPer on City Council finally lost her seat.

In my opinion, 21 incumbents losing their seats is NOT accidental.  Most people in this county know who they usually vote for (heck, I was a victim to that because a lot of Democrats are just used to voting for the name "Regula").  Not anymore...people still know who they vote for, and they've decided to STOP voting for them.

Cirelli returns as Dems dominate council

- The Dems have always had a majority in City Council, now they have a HUGE advantage.  The GOP Mayor (who is always seen slopping herself all over Bush) is in big trouble with her agenda and her next election bid.

Decades of GOP Mayors in Canton, Ohio is now possibly over.  When Ward 8 votes Rosemary Diamond out (and they did), there's trouble for the Repugs right here in my city.

Democrats take control of Alliance City Council

- My good friend Cody Combs (Independent) chose not to run for re-election, and his seat is now occupied by another good friend, Steven Okey.  Okey is joined by more Democrats now in Alliance.  This predominantly red city has begun a swing towards the blue side of the aisle.  Six of the 7 available seats were won by Democrats.

To give you a good idea of the swing in Alliance, just one year ago, I lost the city of Alliance by a vote of 5,206 to 3,198.  In just 52 weeks, Democrats dominated the scene.

Take a look around the country, at small papers in every county.  This is happening everywhere.  In a small, off-year election, Republicans almost always dominate, because GOP voters are the most loyal to the voting booths.  Not anymore.  This is a huge sign and we'd better not ignore it.  Voters are clearly unhappy with the direction everything is headed, from small city councils to conservative town mayors to southern state governors.

We must take advantage and we must supply real answers to the problems that we face, not spin andd excuses.  The voters have spoken and they want change.  Give it to them, Democrats.  Give it to them now.

How about spam since I've now seen it at least in four places.

Sheesh ... give it a rest, why don't you?

Great!  Thanks for visiting my blog!

I know how important it is to spread the word about small victories as well as big ones, so knowing that you saw it four times just lets me know that my word is getting out there!  I really appreciate the support!

Clueless, I see.

I didn't say I read it, which I didn't, just that I have seen it everywhere.

It's bad manners to write the same thing on blog after blog after blog.  Not gonna win squat acting that way.

Re: Cross Posted? (1.00 / 1)

Again, thanks for your support.  It's nice to see like-minded people visiting similar blogs.

Good luck on your upcoming election and thanks for putting your own livelihood on the line to try and make this country a better place.  That's so much better than just bitching about everybody else under an anonymous psuedonym.  Glad to see you're giving everything you have!

Yes, because there are SOOOO many voters in Jeff's district that obsessively read Democratic blogs every single day and would know (and care) that he cross-posted something multiple times.

Re: Cross Posted? (2.00 / 1)

Well, let's see ... I saw it on such puny and unknown blogs as Grow Ohio, Kos and MyDD (and I'll take him at his word that it's on his own blog which I don't visit), all within the 60 minutes that I spent on the internet today, so I certainly wouldn't call that obsessive.

Spam, by any other name, smells the same.

I know he's the darling of the blogosphere, who obsessivly back people with little or no hope of being elected dog catcher, no matter the hard luck story they tell.

I suspect I have as much chance of winning as he does and I live in NW Ohio, not in OH-16.  Just looked at FEC.GOV and he never even filed a ending quarterly report for the 2004 cycle (wonder how he got away with that one) let alone a single report for 2006 so either he's raising NO money or he's doing it under (how shall I phrase it) an "anonymous psuedonym".

That and his website is down, it seems.

Not exactly "giving everything" he has, is he?
