Who Kidnapped the NYC Democratic Party?

"I can't think of a single active Democrat in New York who's supporting Freddy Ferrer. And when I say active Democrats, I mean the people in our world, who help raise money for Presidential candidates and things like that."

Today, Steven Rattner -- a multimillionaire businessman and former Democratic fundraiser -- claimed control New York's the "active Democrats." He flaunted his new leadership with that quote in The New York Observer's article about his position as chair of Democrats for Bloomberg, the Republican mayor of New York City.

This comes across as, er, odd.

I lead Democracy for New York City (DFNYC). We are active Democrats. Plenty of us stand alongside Freddy Ferrer -- as evidenced by the overwhelming support Ferrer has within DFNYC . He has endorsements from labor groups, city Democratic clubs, local elected officials, and community groups throughout the City.

The implication that "active Democrats" are write multi-thousand dollar checks or raise big money for Presidential races exemplifies a mindset surrounding the Party. Democrats have been on a losing streak for the past ten years precisely because of this sense of entitlement.

The true "active Democrats" knock on doors. We make phone calls. We make small donations. We keep the Democratic Party alive.

Is Rattner the party? The party belongs to the people -- and we are the people. If Rattner ever opts to join us in our world, who knows — maybe he can meet us sometime.

Sing it sister.

This is the only chance the Dems have.  Nip the powerstructure off at the base and step up to the plate.

Bravo!

been there (none / 0)

I've been to one of those Rattner-esque Dem parties. It was most disheartening when people would flinch when I'd say I was a Dean supporter during the primaries and they'd retort with a "Kerry was the best candidate."  Or when the black woman lawyer (everyone but me was a lawyer at this thing) lamented how the gays lost this election for Kerry.  Had I thought of it at the time I would have said, "It's too bad the Democrats supported the Civil Rights Act because we wouldn't have lost the South.  Those damn blacks lost us half the country."

Point is, these people, the true 'liberal elite, are shit'.  They are content to enjoy their stature and be kings and queens of their mole hills.

But remember this:

"Change happens when staying the same is more painful that making a change."  - Howard Dean

So I'm still holding my breath...

Kerry = another member of the Scull and Bones (none / 0)

which was reputed to have Nazi sympathies...for example, they somehow managed to get the silverware used by the German general staff at some resort at the end of WWII, very ornate swastika-decorated stuff.. and they ate off it at meals at Yale...

Not an organization we really should have anything to do with... don't you think, especially since Bush's grandfather, Prescott Bush, was so heavily involved with them. (Dems should shun any organization that had anything good to say about the NSDAP or "Nazis")

Found this book list... I've read some of them.. (none / 0)

http://www.conspiracyarchive.com/NWO/Skull_Bones_Sources.htm

See http://www.tarpley.net for a free online bio of the elder George Bush that gives a good overview of their activities..

Its a must read.

Kerry may not have had anything to do with them since his Yale days.. still, this is a scary aspect of America that needs people to be aware of it..

(Many Americans did and still do have fascist sympathies and were among the biggest supporters of Hitler in his rise to power.. and other fascists since then.. just look at the many US military interventions on their behalf - its obvious.)

For some other, more current info, see http://waragainsttheweak.com and http://john-loftus.com

The GOPs big push for medical IT is part of this..

And? (none / 0)

I can't say I'm surprised that DFNYC is backing Ferrer. It's too bad you can't convince a large chunk of the active Democratic base to join you. (BTW- who'd DFNYC support for Public Advocate and for Mayor? How'd that work out? Are you saying that you represent NYC Dems?)

Here's my question: when was the Democratic Dem Party kidnapped by a bunch of non-ideological hack losers? We live in the bluest city in the bluest state and we can't get someone to stand up strong on some controversial issues?

If I see Ferrer boogying to some Salsa in a club with a huge "NO DANCING!" sign, or if I hear him say that he'll stop prosocuting drug posession cases, tehn maybe, just maybe, I'll support him. Otherwise, I think Bloomberg has been good enough for me to focus my energies on other elections....

Re: And? (none / 0)

Bloomberg has been good enough?

Bloomberg donated $6.98 million as the largest donor to the Republican National Convention. His personal donation was larger than many corporations such as Cisco, Time Warner, Citigroup, Verizon, IBM, Merrill Lynch, and Pfizer.

Mayor Bloomberg endorsed President George W. Bush for reelection, by stating, quote, "The president deserves our support. We are here to support him. And I am here to support him."

Re: And? (none / 0)

what does that have to do with his ability to be a good mayor? NYC city mayor is, by and large, a non-ideological position. And, insofar as it is ideological I like much of what Bloomburg has done.

  • he's improved race relations modelstly, but a whole lot from Gulianni.

  • When a cop shoots someone he stands by the person who was shot, not necissarily the cop, and orders investigations.

  • He at least appears to be doing something about the schools.

  • When the city faced a budget shortage, who did he tax? The landed wealthy, just about his only way to get more well off folks to foot the bill.

  • I like the fact that he's encouraging bigger buildings. We need more people building up and less people moving out. Skyskrapers can be the most environmentally fit way to house a population the size of NYC.

  • Re: sports teams, just get the heck over it. If you think any Dem is going to run on the "I won't build a stadium in NYC" ticket, you're fooling yourself. If there are any with that little common sense, they deserve to get beaten.

  • Posession busts have quietly declined over the past year, and I really doubt that there are any less possesors...

And, while we're on the subject of candidates for NYC Mayor- why don't you tell me what's so great about Ferrer?

Totally Agree (none / 0)

Bloomberg has been a good mayor. His management skills are excellent. Most if not all of my strongly liberal NYC friends will be backing him in the election. Sometimes you have to put the person above the party. Frankly I dont think Ferrer will be a better mayor than Bloomberg.

Wrong (none / 0)

An improvement of race relations over Gulliani? That is damning with faint praise! He has done very little for race relations except reduce affordable housing, declare victory on unemployment when unemployment for black men was skyrocketing, and now blowing off the debate in Harlem. Gee, that is REALLY reaching out to minorities!

Doing something about the schools? Really nothing more than Bush's "Leave no child behind." Order more testing and do little else. What is worse is he is making he process for applying to Middle Schools horrific, forcing 5th graders to go through an application process that is as bad as a college application process. This is for EVERYONE since now you are not guaranteed a spot in your local school. Kids are going on prozac from the stress. And meanwhile so little funding is going to schools in poor areas that kids have to bring their own toilet paper to school with them. WONDERFUL schools, eh? BIG improvement.

You like development deals that circumvent city laws, are based on secret backroom deals out of the eyes of the public, threaten misuse of eminent domain to take private property for the use of a private developer, will cost the city more money that it generates, and will probably not procduce good jobs or real affordable housing. Entire neighborhoods are threatened with distruction and these development plans are often being made despite community based 197-a plans which are SUPPOSED to shape development. His development plans are TERRIBLE and are based on the ideas of Ratner, who still can't fill the office space in his LAST boondoggle.

Ummm...the stadium is dead in the water. A Democrat defeated that. Get over it. Bloomberg put all his eggs in the Stadium basket and he lost. The stadium and Olympics was one of Bloombergs WORST ideas and thankfully he lost in the end. Are you really trying to put a positive spin on THAT one? Sheesh.

And what about arrests for exercising First Amendment rights? It is now illegal for someone to PUBLICIZE a Critical Mass event, let alone attend one. New Yorkers are being arrested for doing things that people are allowed to do in far less democratic nations. Bloomberg is ANTI-first Amendment rights which makes him anti-American in my book. He went so far as to call the RNC protesters "terrorists." Well he is calling me and my wife, at the time 8 months pregnant, terrorists. Why? Because we were exercising our first Amendment rights. THere is no way I can support someone who is that anti-American.

Hi Heather! (none / 0)

Was at the meet---er, I mean LINKup last night with Norm Seigel. He was plugging DFNYC as the savior of the Democratic Party in NYC, envisioning a multi-cultural membership of 100,000 taking over the local party.

Boy, we REALLY have to get to work!

Speaking for myself, Ratner is NOT my leader. Nor, for that matter, is Clarence Norman. I look to Norm Seigel, Paul Wooten, Major Owens, Chris Owens, Margharita Lopez-Torres, and Letitia James (should she decide to return to the Dem party!) for leadership.

And I am doing all I can to help Freddy Ferrer get elected. I am sick of a dictatorial, anti-First Amendment Billionaire giving our city away to rich  developers in secret backroom deals. I am ready for a REAL New Yorker for mayor.

Please send Ferrer a donation by going to www.ferrer2005.com so we can send the Republican Bush supporting billionaire Mayor back to Bloomberg Inc.
