graphic illustration of exactly what MOE=3.1% means

Here is a graph of the results of Rasmussen's daily 1000 phone surveys, which he uses to compile his 3-day tracking poll.  (These figures are backed out of his posted 3-day figures.)

As a standalone poll, this graph vividly shows what MOE=3.1% means.  Keep this in mind before living and dying by every new poll result.

scoop madness (none / 0)

Comments claim to be able to upload and embed images.  But they don't embed.  And the uploaded files apparently disappear after a few minutes.  A few kinks to be worked out here ...

In any case, here's a permanent link to the graph on my own dime.

Re: scoop madness (none / 0)

I think its a group permission thing, it's not supposed to be there for regular users. Maybe I can turn it on for trusted users though. Chris can come in and fix it because he has admin or superuser group status.

Re: scoop madness (none / 0)

Well, if you want a thorough bug report ...

At first I tried hosting the image myself at panix and linking to it with an img tag, but that didn't work (the tag just appeared as plain text).

Then I tried uploading the image, which seemed to work (it did in fact upload to mydd.com), but I still could not link to it with an img tag (which continued to appear as plain text) ... presumably this is because img is not one of the "allowed HTML" tags.

Then I noticed that the uploaded image vanished from mydd.com.

At the moment it appears that some magic-possessing person has put an actual img tag in the diary post, linking to the image that I am hosting at panix ... I don't think I can do think myself given the current state of the diary software.

Not that any of this really matters.  It's nice to be able to put images in diary entries but it's hardly important.

I guess the likely end result of all this is that the image uploading will be turned off for non-magic users, and perhaps the img tag in general will be turned on, which would be nice, or perhaps there's some reason img tags are bad (I could imagine a reason but it's not much risk with a small registered community of users).

What is awfully nice is that I could put up the diary and have it remain there rather than instantly racing off the bottom of the list ... small is beautiful for online communities!

Thanks for the great work here, Jerome and Chris.

Fixed (none / 0)

I fixed the pciture for you. I think the problem was that it was gif. Jpeg seems to work better here. Don't ask me why.

Graph (none / 0)

Just wanted to say thanks for that graph - one picture is worth...

Also wanted to say thanks for a fine site - yours doesn't seem to be polluted by trolls or weighed down by pessimism as much as some of the other blogs are.

Trolls (none / 0)

We banned trolls a little more than a week ago by forcing people to register when they post. Combien this with Scoop, and trolls disappear.

Also, thanks!
