Real Lies

While the right-wing Blogosphere has moved on to the Cambodia schelp after failing to get anywhere with the Swift Boat crap, MoveOn.org has announced the winner of their "Real People" ad campaign. It details the real lie about war in this campaign, and is told by Lee Buttrill, a Marine Corps veteran who has returned from the war that is still raging:
We were given these idea that there's weapons of mass destruction, but where are the weapons of mass destruction? They said they were so sure where they were, but where are they? When we were over there, we looked around. I was, I was on an intelligence gathering team. We looked, we looked in scientific installations. We never found anything. It was just a lie and it wasn't a proper use of American troops. It wasn't a proper use of my life, or my friends' lives, or the marines who I've seen die around me. It was not a proper use.
Pure and simple, the administration lied about WMDs in order to go to war. They had been planning to lie about them to go to war even if the September 11th attacks never took place.

This is a very good ad. Watch it here. MoveOn plans to air it during the RNC, so consider contributing and helping them out.

They should air a combination (none / 0)

The ads are very effective but they should air a variety of the finalist considering they all apopeal to different groups that might be disaffected with Bush.

Re: They should air a combination (none / 0)

Yea, I don't get why they'd choose just one, it reminds me of the TMS folly with the Dean person-to-person ads in the Wisconsin (which were faulty, and not timely, for a variety of reasons). The main problem is with that most of the consultants that deal with TV ad buys believe heavily in saturation, and that it takes dozens of viewerships of their ads for the message to sink in., which is really just a guess on their part anyway, for why TV advertising doesn't work anyway. So, for those few individuals that it might work for, a F-You young man isn't going to speak to the undecided women; but this is the core still enthusiastic about Bush, so if you have to choose one, it's a good one.

Oh, as I understand it, they're airing more than just this one ad. It's just the starter.

Re: Real Lies (none / 0)

I've had my doubts about the effectiveness of MoveOn's anti-Bush advertising, but this one looks like a winner. I'll be contributing!

I thought some of the also-rans were (none / 0)

better, esp if you try to take the perspective of a disappointed but still Republican voter.

Veterans Against the War - Next Generation Traitor (none / 0)

I am a former Democrat is definitely voting for "W". As a retired military officer, I hope someone in the Marine Corps is planning to court martial the sorry Marine who's featured on MoveOn.com -- Sergeant Lee Buttrill, USMC -- for his traitorous remarks about the U.S. military's efforts to free Iraq. Buttrill is featured in a video that MoveOn is planning to run as a pro-Kerry commercial during the Republican convention. He is a disgrace to the military and his country. He must think he's being Kerry-esque by "serving his country" then coming back and vomiting on it.Very few "journalists" bothered to interview any of the Swiftboat Veterans for Truth for their news articles. Instead they interviewed Kerry Camp Folowers who tried to make Kerry's four MONTHS in 'Nam sound heroic. Four months is a TDY (temporary duty) and there are some missing FITREP (fitness reports) from his four month TDY which Kerry has conveniently chosen not to release. This from a Senator who wants to be promoted to POTUS?

Re: Real Lies (none / 0)

Is this the same Sgt. Lee Buttrill quoted in this ABC news story? He says, "When you are moving through this country there is not a lot of people out there and you are not sure they want us here. You wonder, 'Are we doing this for us or are we doing it for them?' ... You finally get here and see people in the street feeling so excited, feeling so happy, tearing down the statue of Saddam. It feels really good."

Re: Real Lies (none / 0)

It's so sad that this loser would lie on TV just to get his face on the tube.  Congress, the 9/11 Commission, British Intelligence, GENERAL Tommy Franks have all said that the intelligence we had indicated WMD in Iraq.  Why this one ex-Marine, and that is an intentional slap in his face, since most Marines would say you're never an ex-Marine, would say something like this while my brothers in arms are still in Iraq.  Then again, it's the same thing Kerry did when he came home from Viet Nam.  Guess he's just following on his "leaders" coat tails.  This man is a sorry excuse for a US fighting man.  I hope you enjoy your 15 minutes of fame, and I hope the men you served with treat you accordingly.  I know if given the opportunity, I certainly would.  BTW, I spent 20 years serving my country, and I'm doing everything I can to ensure that President Bush is reelected.  Mistakes have been made, but guess what, we all make mistakes.
