Tolerance Has Become Too Controversial For Networks

ABC has decided that Mathew Shepard deserved it. Now, NBC and CBS decide that tolerance is too controversial, especially because the President thinks so:
"Because this commercial touches on the exclusion of gay couples and other minority groups by other individuals and organizations," reads an explanation from CBS, "and the fact the Executive Branch has recently proposed a Constitutional Amendment to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, this spot is unacceptable for broadcast on the [CBS and UPN] networks."
If you really want to see the face of hatred, watch the ad they refused to air. Truly horrible, that tolerance stuff.

Evil is winning. A terrible storm is gathering over our nation.

I am Christan and this pisses me off (none / 0)

I am pissed off that only the haters on the (non)Christian right are allowed to get their message out.  The ad was right on.  Christ is about love and not hate.  We need to expose the Myth that the Media is liberal.  It is not.  The Media will not even take money to show liberal Christian ads.

Let's do something about it (3.00 / 1)

This is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen.  That is one of the most innocuous, non-controversial ads promoting tolerance I have ever seen.  This has gone way too far...so let's do something about it.  We need to contact both networks en masse and let them know that this is completely unacceptable.

CBS is easy.  Just go to;
http://www.cbs.com/

And hit "Feedback" all the way at the bottom.

NBC are tricky little bastards and make themselves very hard to email (probably to keeep people like me at bay).  The closest thing I can find is the following email address;
nbcshows@nbc.com

It's probably the wrong email to be contacting, but if enough of us send them something, they'll notice.

So, hit the ground, little foot soldiers of freedom!  Email this story (and ESPECIALLY the link to the ad) to everyone you know and get them to email the networks.  Remember, they are still using public airwaves and performing a public service.  Let's tell them EXACTLY what the public thinks about this one.

And why stop there?  Anyone know how to get an advertiser list?  Maybe some emails to big sponsors might help as well.

May seem crazy, but this is the kind of organizational tactic the right has been using very effectively for years.

Email is not effective. (none / 0)

Call them.  Hearing some rant and rave affects people.  Email is often ignored.

Tolerance (none / 0)

The networks can't die soon enough for me -- when will the internets and cable put the final stake in their collective heart?

It's easy (none / 0)

Just boycott the networks.

This is their third strike (none / 0)

Michael Moore couldn't run ads for his 911 video, Move On was denied running an ad during the Super Bowl and now this. Has any conservative ad ever been denied? Is this denial really about the Constitutional Amendment (which we are not even sure Bush supports) or are they sucking up to Michael Powell et. al. in exchange for another push on media consolidation?

I'm almost tempted to watch Scarborough and Hannity to see how they explain this as liberal media bias. Except I'm already boycotting Faux News and Scarborough just on general principle. I let Media Matters watch them for me. I may start limiting my news to PBS and Jim Lehrer's News Hour. Boycotting all three networks entirely is certainly an option. What level of  watered down pablum do the networks consider acceptable?

In the meantime, I'm sending those good folks at UCC a contribution to help get their ad on the air wherever they can.

Rudolph is too damn tolerant! (none / 0)

Irony is thick my friends. Tonight CBS airs one of the best pieces of TV about the need for accepting difference: "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer". I mean, Hermey feels different from the other elves and wants to be a "dentist"? Come on!

Anyways, go to CBS.com and flood their e-mail system by letting them know how idiotic this is

True Christians Unite (none / 0)

This sure sounds to me like a rallying call for liberal and moderate Christians ... and all decent people of any belief (or no belief).

This ad, about equality and open acceptance, is exactly what the good Jesus stuff in the New Testament is about. If an ad like this is too hot for CBS and NBC to handle, then exactly what will they cover?

And, come the 109th Congress, who wants to bet whether or not CBS and NBC turn away ads from all those American Taliban fundagelical groups that want to help Dubya write discrimination into the U.S. Constitution? Yeah, that'd make the Republicans ... including Michael Powell ... very happy.

Boycott. (none / 0)

If we boycott like with Sinclair, they will take notice. Enough is enough. I don't watch network tv so it's easy for me to say, but don't watch their networks. Don't buy their advertizer's products. These assholes need to realize how many of us voted against Bush and his cohorts and that we have money to spend (elsewhere if need be).
