Bush's Last Stop is Dallas, Why?

I've been wanting to post an entry (Joe's ought to work to start the discussion) about this Monday night stop for Bush in Dallas (like, instead of Florida!). There's gotta be a bigger reason. I think Bush & Rove have more than just getting home before dawn on their mind about Texas, Jerome

Just wanted to let everyone in on some news that illustrates that the Republicans are on the ropes in their own back yard.

W is coming to Dallas to rally for CD-32 candidate Pete Sessons tomorrow night. This isn't all that unusual since he is obviously headed to Crawford so he can vote on Tuesday, but with so many close congressional races in TX due to Tom Delay's illegal redistricting, they would send W to the race they are most worried about losing. This new congressional district is entirely in Dallas county, was drawn to specifically for Pete Sessions and to give the republicans an overwhelming advantage. It includes Highland Park, which is densly populated and 90% registered republicans.

Why does this matter? I have posted a couple of times over the past week to report from Dallas county the extraordinary large turnout during early voting, the anti-Bush sentiment, and the suprising number of republicans (the highly educated and highly compensated ones) that have told me they are voting for Kerry and Martin Frost.

If Kerry runs strong in the urban areas of a red state like TX, which it appears will be the case, he will overwhelmingly win the large urban areas of the blue and purple states which should give Kerry a solid victory.

Tuesday is going to be a very interesting day.

Another possibility to consider is that they are so confident of either victory or defeat, they have decided to concentrate their last efforts on a candidate who needs a boost or it might also be nothing more than the eleventh hour publicity photo with an adoring throng making for some good visuals.

He wants to remind Kerry what happens to trouble-makers from MA with the initials JFK.

BS I know, but at midnight on Hallowe'en, it's what popped to mind immediately. :-/

Technically, Halloween was over at Midnight.  For all we know, Bush I had a hand in the Assassination.  Maybe he is a real life equivalent of the CSM on X-Files...except he decided to run as well.

Appearance of confidence (none / 0)

It could be the old standard "Of course, we're going to win easily. I don't have to campaign any more because this is all over. Don't even bother to vote"

VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.VOTE. VOTE.

All Republicans should heed this advice and not bother to vote.

Re: Appearance of confidence (none / 0)

Normally, I would disagree.  But for this election, I concur.  All you GOP supporters, Bush has won it by a landslide, don't worry about voting tommorrow.  Stay home and relax and wait for 4 more years.

I have a friend in Texas who is (none / 0)

a longtime Republican - she actually knows GWB's mom, and she told me she is voting for Kerry - she is really, really sick of Bush..

IMO, its not surprising how many Texans really dislike Bush.

Just imagine us after twelve years of listening to Bush, thats them...

Laura Miller is a rising star in Dallas (none / 0)

Laura Miller is a rising star in Dallas ,I expect
to see her in Austin one day or DC she is a
fighter and a fiscal democrat.

Martin Frost I know him from my defense working
days at Vought/LTV now Northrop he was such
a great support to us he went to bat for that
area and still does...I think he really zinged
Pete Sessions on his nudity and showed him to
be a cold hypocrite.

So yeah I can see why Bush is going to Dallas
he did live in Highland Park for awhile when
he was the front man for the Rangers baseball
team.

View From Here in TX CD-32 (3.00 / 1)

The Frost signs are everywhere in North Dallas. I live in Preston Hollow, the same neighborhood that Duya lived in before he was Gov. Sessions lost all 5 debates. He never had to run against a real opponent before and is in a panic. Even the Dallas Morning News Endorsed Frost.

Bring it on Dubya-- Frost wins by 1,200 votes!

Second (none / 0)

I see the Frost signs everywhere. I haven't seen an election in a long time where the R's looked like they were going to lose ground in DALLAS of all places.

I really suspect it is going to be a lot closer than it appears in the presidential race.

Not that I think there's a snowball's chance in hell of Bush losing here, but wouldn't that be a corker?

Bush is just not a conservative.

Strange Schedules (none / 0)

Bush's last stop in Dallas is as strange as Cheney's trip to Hawaii.  Neither one makes any sense for getting needed votes.

Do they know they're going down?

I THINK HE PROBABLY PROMISED SESSIONS A SESSION (none / 0)

Then its on to Crawford which is about 100
miles south to south west. His ranch really
isn't that far from the branch davidian old
compound and by the way the so called ranch
was a pig farm before he bought it.

I would love for my native Texas to flip bush
it might happen but not a whole lot of polling
done or emphasis on getting the poll right in
Texas.

I really do hope Martin Frost wins. Some of
the worst right wing radio comes out of dallas
ft.worth WBAP...Mark Davis is horrible and
I think he is on his 4th wife.

Let the DMN Know how you feel about Mark Davis (none / 0)

If you hate Mark Davis as much as I do, please join me in my crusade to get his column out of the Dallas Morning News. Please email Keven Ann Willey and Sharon Grigsby and let them know what a hack Davis is.

Remind the DMN that they had to lie about their falling circulation, just laid-off 10% of their staff-- they can't afford to alienate more readers!

Re: Let the DMN Know how you feel about Mark Davis (none / 0)

I've already let them know that. I told them that I wasn't even asking for a liberal -- a moderate would have been OK instead of that winger.

I've also e-mailed Davis multiple times about his first column, about the Tommy Franks section, telling him his own hometown StartleGram, as a KnightRidder paper, led the coverage showing how Franks lied about Tora Bora.

As for the layoffs... you and I know there's more to come. Their Collin County project has been a big flop.

Dallas (none / 0)

Charles Kuffner at Houston's Off the Kuff has predicted that Kerry will take at least one of the following Texas cities: Dallas, Houston, or San Antonio.  Perhaps President Rove has figured out which one.

And if the Crawford Ranch is a former pig farm, then Rove must ber Pig Vomit.  Wouldn't Howard Stern be pleased!

by bhelverson on Mon Nov 01, 2004 at 09:12:21 AM EST

he'll take houston (none / 0)

that would be harris county.  it's big time dem country.  had a turnout of 22% during early voting.  harris will definitely be taken by kerry.

They're not on the list, so maybe they're a given, but I suspect Kerry will carry both Austin and El Paso, as well.

Coming to Waco too? (none / 0)

If he's coming to Dallas for Sessions than I wouldn't be surprised if Bush makes a short run down I-35 to Waco or elsewhere in Dist. 17 to stump for Arlene Wolhgemuth over Chet Edwards.  Chet is another Democratic victim of DeLay's redistricting but is probably in a better position than Frost at this point.  As Waco's well-liked hometown Congressman he stands to get a lot of Republican crossover votes in the Waco area as Wolhgemuth is seen as something of a carpetbagger from the Fort Worth area.

Given that Dist. 17 includes Crawford and is Bush's home district, I would imagine that they would much like to see a Republican take the district.  I'm sure Rove and Co. are not that happy to see Bush's home district represented by a Democrat.  If Bush plans to watch the election returns from Crawford then that would make logistical sense.

by texasdiver on Mon Nov 01, 2004 at 09:53:17 AM EST

Bush (none / 0)

I wouldn't read a ton into Bush's final stop being in Dallas.  I'm guessing he was planning on spending the election in Crawford anyway.

Nonetheless, I would love to see Frost win in Dallas, and give that little freak Tom Delay a bloody nose.

Re: WHERE WILL HE BE IN DALLAS?~?~?~??~ (none / 0)

The rally is at Moody Coliseum at SMU. You can get the details at dallasgop.org

A protest is being organized by the dallas democrats. Here is the information posted on dallasdemocrats.org

President George W. Bush will be in town on Monday to speak at SMU.

There will be a public rally starting on Monday, November 1st at 6:30PM on the west side of Mockingbird and (75) Central Expressway. Near the shopping strip located next to SMU.

If you have any questions please call Jennifer at 214-728-3541.

On Monday Nov.1st wear your Kerry gear and bring a sign!

Don't Protest-- Frost needs GOP Vote! (none / 0)

The Frost Campaign has positioned Martin as someone who supports the President on many issues like homeland security as he is running in a GOP stronghold. If you go, do not bring any Martin Frost signs or t-shirts.

If you must protest, and I would recommend that your time and energy is better spent talking to Democrats about voting, do not involve the Frost campaign

Re: Don't Protest-- Frost needs GOP Vote! (none / 0)

With all due respect, I think that if someone wants to express their first amendment rights by protesting at Bush's appearance, they should be encouraged to do so, not discouraged.

I, for one, will be there. Quite frankly, I need the break. I've been working GOTV for two months now, and have been doing so in a very positive, pro-Kerry way as opposed to anti-Bush.

If people who have been working hard to GOTV need this release and break tonight, let us have it. If others who have hesitated to work against Bush's reelection see this as their opportunity to finally get involved, celebrate it.

And tomorrow, we'll all work to get Dems to the polls for Kerry, Frost, Lupe Valdez, Bill Bernstein and everyone else.

Dallas needs to see that this county is not Bush country. This protest is important.

(Your remarks to not involve the Frost campaign will be heeded by me. To be honest, the thought hadn't occurred to me anyway - this is a protest against Bush and in favor of Kerry.)

To be with his elite.. (none / 0)

SMU, the school where his rally is at, is in the heart of eliteville....it gives shrub the chance to hold a well orchestrated rally to make it look like people in Texas support him...please remember when you see him on the news at this "rally" that it is NOT the everyday Dallasite there. It will be full of handpicked people. Laura Bush graduated from SMU and was a trustee at one point, Cheney was also a trustee prior to being on the Bush ticket. So the school will no doubt want to protect shrub from real Dallasites. He is supposed to speak around the time that the local news is on, around 10 pm, so look for the media to help him put on a grand show.
BTW, local Dems are going to gather not far from SMU to "greet" shrub...go to
http://www.dallasdemocrats.org/ for directions to where they will meet!

Re: To be with his elite.. (none / 0)

It is rather fitting that Bush should hold his last rally at the college that had the worst football scandal - the scandal that went all the way to Governor's office.
